I've been playing ff8 (for my first time actually) and i'm at the part where your trying to pick off the sorcress and during one of the fmv's. when it looks over seifer it gets choppy and eventually stops, with sound still running. the dos window that opens up with epsxe shows a single read error(although the disk doesn't look that bad and i've tryed cleaning it more than once) will makeing an iso of the first disk help(or is there another way to get past the fmv so i can continue?)

I've tryed many graphic plugins (includeing software plugins) along with epsxe's internal cd plugin(none of the options selected), and eternal's spu plugin.

AMD 1.1ghz
24x creative labs cdrom
GF2mx 32mb agp
Sb Live! value
Saitek p750 gamepad

It's probs a read error that can be solved by using a different plugin (Xeven's, SaPu's, and Pete's are my favs) or making an ISO image.
I'd recommend making an ISO image tho.

I use this configuration :
-ePSXe 1.52
-GPU Pete's 1.62 (nice setting) or
-GPU PEOPS 1.50 (nice setting)
-SPU Eternal (I forget the version)
-Run from iso (I make iso using Nero Burning ROM(*.nrg))
Run perfect...

some times making an ISO will help but if theres too much scrathced on it it will be read as sector cannot be read...

and will cause to running the game with incomplete graphics

On;y on the MDECs tho. Otherwise you may be treated to a perpetual black screen. Blindread is typicaly good for scratched CDs tho.

As far as i know, This problem was the olny problem with the disk (always freezes the same way at the same point) and it doesn't look really scratched, the game was working fine until this point

Have you tried returning to a memcard save, and trying that bit on a differnt emu? (AdriPSX, VGS, FPSE)

I am useing memcard saves (i almost never use save states) i guess i could try a different emu (even though epsxe is the olny psx emu i have used :) )

ePSXe is the best at the mo, but a different emu might get past that bit.

Lol, so much for a different emulator! :D I can't get them to run correctly (run a game at all or run it right, when trying chrono cross) I did try some cd plugins and they don't seem to want to work with my plain cd-rom drive (not cdrw, dvd, ect)

I had the same problem on disc 3.
I tried making an ISO and it still wouldn't do it. The only soloution I could find that actually worked was to use someone else's copy of the game to get past it, then continue. I made sure to copy that CD, too. My CD wasn't scratched at all, but it still did it...you MAY want to look for the gameshark cheat that gets you into the debug menu. if you are patient you can find a way to make it actually get to a specific point in the game RIGHT AFTER a movie or even start from a new disc...
If you have any more questions you can contact me by email at serath@hotmail.com or on ICQ and I'll try to help you along.

BEST OF LUCK!!!
