Direction pad won't work with some games

Hi,

IF I have this weird problem with a couple of games: REsident Evil 2 (Claire disk) and Monkey Magic, that the game loads fine and seems to work... The buttons respond on my gamepad correctly.
However, just the directional pad is stuck... doesn't respond at all...

I try changing from digitial to analog, hit F5, try hitting F4, etc. to no avail... Tried different version Epsx1.4, 1.5, and 1.52

ANyone have any ideas what the problem is or how to fix this????

Monkey magic.... Isn't that the one that requires the use of both analog sticks?

i believe you are referrring to ape escape..

Is this loading from a savestate or booting normally?
Are you using PEC or another cheat util?

Yes, I am loading normally.... I'm not using any cheat utility -- just trying to play normally..

And yeah, all the other games work fine.... just these two...

It's strange...
