View Full Version : Xenogears questions

I just bought Xenogears today and since I never saw it played on a PSX, I have some emu questions that I couldn't find answers to on the forum.
1)the game seems too quiet, especially for a squaresoft game. I just got to where I can walk around as a gear, and they don't make any sounds when walking or jumping, and some places I've been to don't have background music (like the undreground desert cavern I'm stuck in). Sound works fine in other scenes and in battles as far as I know.
2)When the scene changes with the stretched FB effect, sometimes there's a white to black line in the top left corner and a square of garbage pixels in the top right. I'm using the latest pete's opengl with the latest nvidia drivers. Special Xenogears fix is on and FB is set through hardware.
3)I keep hearing about this dreaded dream sequence lockup, and since I have no idea when it'll be coming up since I never played, could someone give me an idea as to when this happens? Is it an FMV or a playable section of the game? Thanks in advance.

1. Its supposed to be this way. The gears don't make any sound outside the battles. And this part don't have BG music. :(
2. Well... I had the same prob. I think you can't fix this using Opengl plugin.
3. Its after the part where Bart is atacked by a red gear. You will see a pendent moving around and Fei walking in a black screen. Just press f6, and after this part press f6 again.

I think it's F7, but that's otherwise correct :P

well the 3rd one you mention doesn't happen to me...
anyway, if you like the game, then play it even if it has minor flaw... don't let it be a distraction for you and just enjoy it and have fun

although the music is missing in some parts it still has a very large role in the game for setting the mood
my favourite songs in xenogears are
knight of fire (boss theme) - it just sounds cool
fei and elly's theme - kinda sounds sad but very good nonetheless
id's theme - very mysterious, fits id perfectly, and whenever is played it sets the mood
lost broken shards - another sad theme
Into the sky - a theme which lifts your spirit after those sad songs and gives you some adrenaline
I am the Alpha and the Omega - The last boss' song, very good one imo
But my personal favorite is called fuse... this is the one which gave me a huge adrenaline rush everytime, its the one you usually hear on the yggdrasil later on in the game...
anyways, to sum it up, xenogears has a lot of good music to come, so dont worry

This is such a sweet game, I've been playing off and on all day. I just got to the part with the "battling" minigame so I think I passed the dream sequence. I was paranoid and used f7 in a few dreamlike places.

hehe... in most cases the dreamsequence doesnt even take effect... its just one of those random things which happen to some people but not to others, for the record it happened to me as well... anyways, youre in kislev right now right? that part of the game is fun with the battling, but the sewers part was boring... a few more hours and you should be getting tons of storyline thrown at you all at once... once youre on the second cd though theres a part where you just sit for 3 hours basicly pressing the button reading the story...

I just died at the hands (fins?) of some stupid fish in the sewers. Fei's at level 28 but the so called champ Rico (22) is too weak now. So I decided to call it a night. Must be that Magus law of RPGs that any character you fight before they join you is much stronger against you than with.

Yah that fish boss is very tough.. especially the second time you fight him. If you have any questions or problems with Xeno I can help you if you want.

or try downloading walkthrough... it would help you a lot throughout the course of the game

u got to chain deathblows so u can do a multihit combo to kill off the boss before he can retaliate. Save your AP points (by like only using triangle during a turn and quitting) and pull off a combo.

Yeah, I'm getting through ok now. Still hooked. I almost lost it when the rat-guy used the phrase, "Mad Skillz."

I only use to save my AP when it comes to very annoying boss.. but in the whole game, you don't use it often coz in two deathblow attack(or even one) the enemy is already dead
