carnage179
June 9th, 2002, 06:41
They are. I'm susprised that in the first three doom games, doom, doom2 and final doom, the graphics never really changed much. Man, I doom 3 I hope they still have some of the normal doom enemies.

I tried that doom legacy on my demo of Final Doom. I didnt find it to look any different, and after I shut it down, my computer got screwed again. I'm not even going to try. That graphics are fine for me.
cooliscool
June 9th, 2002, 06:59
they shouldn't have called doom 3 doom 3.. because final doom was truly doom 3.. may cause confusion

If Doom Legacy didn't work for you then maybe you can try jDoom. It's similar to Legacy. It has support for Glide, Direct3D and OpenGL so if one of the modes don't work then you can try another. It works for all versions of Doom except Final Doom (although it's supported). Here's a shot of it on Doom II:

Question. Did anyone else hear ACDC Thunder Live when they were playing it? I did. I think it's because that's what the cd I have in my drive is, and the software was trying to access the cd, and loaded that instead of the doom 2 cd.

For all those who are curious.. The 3d Doom models were created for a short lived Quake Doom TC. I forget what it was called but it was a riot to play, the animations were really cheezy. Especially the pink demons, they hop up off the ground and do a face plant when you kill them!! :D

slimshady, if you provide some jdoom pics, then I'll provide some jheretic pics. The Gargoyles, the creatures that split apart when you kill them, the weapons, OH MAN! I've got me some "brand new" games to have fun with now. BTW, does anyone know if there is anything like this available for Wolfenstien 3D (the one that was on PC and SNES)? I would love to see Wofenstien 3D done this way.

Looks like some of you didn't know about these Doom developments. They started ever since the source was released. glDoom I believe was the first to add 3d accel, but was quite short-lived. Legacy is probably the oldest one that is still being developed.
Other than improved graphics and sound, they have better support for input and multiplayer as well.
So game on! ;)

:) I don't think BorlandC 3.1 is something very ancient. I still program some apps with it at work. I had my own Wolf3D clone 5 years ago written in BP6 .. It was so fast on my 386 working in 4 160x100 split-screen windows. Most of the code not survived HD crash...

sxamiga: If you didn't know, there are two (secret) levels from Wolfenstein 3D in Doom II. They're level 31 and 32. You even get to fight against SS soldiers:). To get to the secret level you have to find a secret passage in level 16, or you can simply warp to the levels with "idclevxx" (xx = level number).

The Cyberdemon shouldn't be too hard. There are plenty of rockets around the level, as well as a rocket launcher. Circle-strafing is the best way to kill him, just make sure you don't get yourself cornered. Also try to avoid the walls, since his rockets do splash damage.

Doom 2 came out before the Playstation which was 1995. Quake came out in 95, so I think you'll find it's more like 8 or 9 years ago.

I checked the site, and jdoom uses the doomsday engine and has more features as well. I guess I'll go for jdoom. Thanks for the info, btw. :)

Doom II came out in 1994 and looks really good in the Domesday engine. I recall Quake 1 comming out in 1996...I remember playing the shareware demo in DOS mode on my cousin's Pentium 75 :D
