Can you please look at my (4th)site. Do you like the layout of it?
I'm not bothered about the content though.

simple can be cool, and look very nice. I have been in webdevelopment, and design as a hobby for about 4 years. Color scheme can either make a site great, or very crappy. This is the most important thing when it comes to designing, and you don't have to be a professional to make professional looking pages. It is very possible to make great looking sites without images, as long as it has a nice color scheme. Another important part is layout and navigation. If a site is hard to navigate, or the layout is very messy, it will drive away users. I also suggest not using frames for the layout. The option is up to you though, I am just not a big fan of frames and know of better ways to get the effect you want. I can only assume you do it so you won't have to recreate the menu on every page. I know of some other ways of doing this better such as with php, or SSI. Some of these might seem advance to a new person to webdevelopment but the concept is very simple. Someday I will complete my webdevelopment tutorial page and share my knowledge with everyone .. yeah someday :p

Do you think I use to many bullet points?

Keith: I don't think my sever supports PHP, but do you know any websites that have tuturials on it?

check this out ... was bored so I made this. It uses no images and could give you some ideas. Feel free to view the source, all sections of the code are labeled.

I don't like comments like that:
"Best viewed with IE6 at 1240x760x32"
Not only I never ever use IE6, but also 1240x760 is a _strange_ size. And after all, it's not true anyway, almost every browser in the world will display this site without any problems. I tried Mozilla and Konqueror, no probs.
My first suggestion is to use different colors for the frames.

ammQ: The resalutions meant to be 1024x760, my mistake.

edit: make the q&a appear in the main frame and not a new page

keeps getting better n better. good job
make it more obvious to users that you are using frames either with line or colour.
yellow n green n gray is a nasty combination.

im on cable. the forums here load in like 1 second and most other sites (gamefaqs, gamespot...) all load in a few seconds but for some reason yours takes like 3-5 minutes to load

j1188

It works okay for me. I delete any tempory internet files on my HDD and try again.

Does it load slow for everyone?

edit: I've deleted my tempory internet files and it loads fine.

Unless you have a very uncommon resolution, it's 1024x768

ShADoWFLaRe85
June 5th, 2002, 06:12
Yeah...it's either 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, or 1280x 1024...which are the more common resolutions. :)

ammoQ

Other common resolutions are 1152x864 and 1280x960.

maybe the green back ground can be changed to something more dull so to suit the menus and text background.......!

I'm no expert at this, but I would change the rollover color (or what the heck it's called) to a brighter one...

sniff_381
June 7th, 2002, 09:35
then what do you think is the best resolution??? an about the server???... it's just working fine. isn't it?

j1188
June 13th, 2002, 20:35
I said the server might have got slow as Kr0nic_2000
said it took a while to load.

In my opinion the higher the resalution the better, it's just that my page was designed on 1024x768(yay, I got it right!)

A little color might liven the site up
