from www.mmcafe.com:

Konami Computer Entertainment Japan has released their future plans in the Financial report for the March 2002 term. In the report, a number of statements have been made. On the issue of constantly releasing successful titles, Konami states as follows.

"A key issue for KECJ as a producer for software for home-use games, is how to keep creating large amount of powerful contents.

The 'Metal Gear Solid' series is one of our important original titles. The most recent 'Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Libery' has been a great success, significantly strengthening the brand. Our plan is to bring out sequels at a frequency of once every two years. We also plan to introduce a second and a third original title to follow our Metal Gear Solid series. Currently we are working on strengthening our 'ZONE OF THE ENDERS (Z.O.E.)' brand and are in process of planning and producing new original titles... "

Japanese game news site Impress Gamewatch reports the new title of Metal Gear Solid to be "Metal Gear Solid Substance", announced to be released multi-platform on the PS2, XBox and PC. "Zone of the Enders 2 - The 2nd Runner" is also announced as a sequel title. In addition, research on Network games are underway, and possibilities such as "Metal Gear Online" are currently being studied.

Konami also projects to gain sales from games based on anime and manga characters such as Yu-Gi-Oh, which has already begun marketing in the States since March. Anime/Manga titles such as "Tennis no Ouji Sama" and "Hikaru no Go" are scheduled to be released as games on multi-platform in the future as well.

You know what...I dunno if this is the result of Kojima, but I think ZOE and MGS are rated wayyyy too high by the company itself. As far as I know those are NOT the main source of income for Konami....not that I dont like the idea of having a new MGS on pc, but...this could significantly decrease the quality of Metal Gear game...and it might not make Konami as much money as they're hoping for.

oh, btw, be sure to check out www.mmcafe.com ; there's much interesting news to find there :)

(...what perhaps is at least equally interesting (if not more) is that namco seems to be teaming up with nintendo.

now the gamecube is starting to get REALLY interesting !)

I would definitely love a pc release for new mgs.
I think mgs is the best konami product ever and its worth to be rated very very high.

I am seriously beginning to think that Konami hates Nintendo. But it's good news that MGS 3 will be for PC. I just hope it's better than MGS 2.

Kojima said that he was really interested in doing a GameCube project though. I am still waiting on that one. *glares in Japan's direction*

hmm, finally was able to slack off the last few days and finish MGS2.. and as far as i can tell the game is incredible. To tell the truth, i think i haven't played such a good game in years. I dont think the company is overrating MGS. But, i do hope they don't go the FF way, just like square does. But most of the time i guess.. it's just all about the moolah.

I finished Metal Gear Solid 2 last week. A friend brought over his PS2, and I played it for 14 hours straight. It left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth when I finished it. The tanker level was great, but it got really crappy from then on in.

The ending was just horrible. It made no sense at all, and it wasn't good at all. That's not to say that I didn't understand it, it just seemed really stupid and contrived. I liked the gameplay, but that's about it. It was really fun to play, but the story just didn't work.

Well, I know that I'm not the only one irritated with the game.

Penny-Arcade has also been known to bash it from time to time, often declaring it to be one of the worst games ever. I have also met quite a few other people who hated it. it's true that all games have people that hate it, but some games are more hated than others. In MGS2's case, I would much rather play MGS any day.

agree with you ninja the tanker level was cool it went downhill from there...mabey if you got the sword earlier it would have helped or if the game was longer.

The only part i dislike in MGS2 is the part where you battle the Rays. The environment makes no sense, also how can a single person battle 6 Metal gears ment to wipe Metal gear Rex'es , who was hard for Snake in Shadow Moses ? Other than that, its a great game :)

Sounds like an interesting thing... as long as they don't go all FinalFantasy on us.. cuz... I can't seem to imagine what would happen if there was an MGS every year.

Konami seems to be deliberately ignoring Nintendo right now. I really have no explanation for that. Silent Hill and MGS are coming for every system BUT GameCube. Luckily though, Konami seems to be the only developer that feels this way. Square, Capcom, Namco, Sega, and even Kojima himself are all very happy with the GameCube. It's amazing that the really good Konami games are not being ported.

RE should change everyones look on the GC, not to mention other games like Eternal Darkness (which sounds even bloodier and just plain weird then RE)

Eternal Darkness isn't supposed to be survival horror, but an entirely new spin on horror games. All the previews I have seen have greatly applauded it. I am greatly looking forward to it, and from the looks of it, it is a very ambituous project. I just hope that it all works the way it is supposed to.

I hope there will at least a Goemon title for the GC, i mean that's tradition!

GOEMON!!! I had forgotten about that game. I rented it the day that my video store got it in. Unfortunately, I never did buy a memory card for my N64 to this very day. I never felt a need for one.

I spent an entire sleepless day playing that game until I finished it. I was so tired at the end I don't even remember what it was about, but I remember enjoying myself. I should really buy a memory card and play it again at some point.

Yeah yeah, I know what Eternal Darkness is and isn't supposed to be, I also read the millions of previews. :p
