Hey
You guys seem to talk a lot about FF7 and FF8, but what about FF9. It was the final (FF) game on the psx, so it must have some quality. Im in the middle of playin it (postponed morelike until after my exams) and I just waned to see if anybody else had played it. Is it as good as the other FF's. So far I think its excellent.:)

Yeah it's good but I think FF7 is better it had something that the rest didn't. FF9 is excellent in my opinion the second best Final Fantasy game ever.

It was alright, but it wasn't the best I've played. I like how they went back to the traditional FF style of the SNES days but I don't like the look of the characters (too cutsy, and too many demi humans). The classes could also have been better defined. It was a lot more balanced and challenging than the previous 2 games though. No more overpowering, degenerate attacks and such.
Hate almost all the characters, hate the plot, hate the dialogue, hate the music. The only good thing about that game is you can control four characters at once. You're so lucky Raziel doesn't seem to go to Emuforums anymore, or he'd be hurting you for bringing up this topic. :p Wait, it seems he does. Never mind. ;)

For psx FF's: 7,9 then 8. In order of preference. Gameplay wise I quite liked 9 unlike 8 which had a very confusing character development system.

Each Final Fantasy is unique in it's own way. Once you learn the new system or stop trying to compare it to the "other ff's" and play it for what it's worth, they're all great. I had Final Fantasy 8 laying around and never bothered to touch it because I had read too many negative reviews on it. One day I was so bored, I fired FF8 up and after a couple of hours, I was hooked. I was guilty of listening to bad, overly critical opinions which wanted it "more like FF9" or "more like FF7". As I said before, each installment is unique in it's own way and each are extremely enjoyable. But I have a hunch that personality is heavily involved regarding if an individual will like it or not. I tend to be more of the melancholic nature, so the more engrossing the plot is, the more I *really* get into the game. Perhaps this is why so many of the -other- games I've enjoyed in the past have fallen by the wayside since they're so boring and shallow.

As long as it is an RPG (especially from Square), I'll just play it. :D Yep, all RPG has their own weakness and strength. These varieties are needed to make the world of RPG more colourful. Plus, we don't get much RPG for PSX these days. :( Might as well gather some bucks and bought other console.

You guys are Right...
I'v started playing FF9 two weeks ago (thanks ePSXe) and I've really enjoyed it.
For what is worth.. Final Fantasy 9 Is a pretty good RPG (and game) in it's own terms, and I would recomend it to anybody.

well...... I liked FF8 the most (highly customizable).... it's graphics are the best I've ever seen in the FF saga (haven't seen ff10 yet)
pretty good plot, really good music (Liberi fatali was great!).... and the best..... THE MOST AWESOME ENDING I'VE EVER SEEN!
ff7 is my second favorite.... it had a great character development system...... everything that game has is nearly perfect... but..
1. it wasn't finished..... (because square hurried up with it....)
2. it had horrible graphs (excepting the FMV where Cloud Buries Aeris)
ff9 was good, but no more..... it had a bad plot.... it had nice graphs, but didn't like the childish looks... besides, the evil chars were just lame..... the main chars were really bad planned (excepting amarant and freya, they were cool).... the ending was horrible..... but it had good music (Necron's theme was pretty good)

If one was to judge the a final fantasy game wholey on graphics, then final fantasy X would win *hands down*. In fact, I havn't really played a game to date nor have seen one in developement that can really come close to the graphics and special effects. I'm a sucker for pretty things so natrually FFX really swallowed me for quite some time. (Still want to redo the entire grid maxing out all stats, but that will take a very time consuming!)
I can bet that square's first Final Fantasy on the upcoming Playstation3 will look the same, if not better, than the movies of FFX (all in real time of course!) There have been numerous articles circulating news sites about the hardware of the Playstation3. I think Emulation will most likely end there (unfortunately).

FF 1, FF 3/6, FF 2/4, FF VII, FF IX. Haven't really played FF V yet and I couldn't stand FF VIII at all.

With the upcoming release of Linux for the Playstation2, you can bet some third party people will perhaps try to remake older FF games for the newer PS2 platform. The minute I first heard about Linux-PS2, I immediately thought of FFX like graphics for FF3. Wouldn't that be nice?

Ok time to speak my opinion and get people say wtf ff8 was the best and square rules....i desipesed FF8, FFX had good graph then i looked at unreal 2 and doom 3...square was good they are going downhill. I did like FFT. I well my opinion on all breakstations that sony have made is well i call them breakstations for a reason...and doubt sony will ever make a good console...so far they ****ed up the orginal ps and ps2 and i doubt the ps3 will be any better..so to all of saying getting upset with for what i say you read some of my other posts about FF8 and FFX..

Hey, when is the Playstation 3 coming out?? I mean, they're still making money out of the PS2 but how long can it stand against the other next-generation consoles with better games coming out??!!!!

no knows the orginal ps2 release date was in 1998 then the ps1 sold well and sony delayed it.

The Playstation3 is expected to go into production sometime in 2005. That's quite some time away so there really is no need to get bent out of shape over this. The PS3's expected power will be 200 times more powerful than that of the current generation of consoles. 400 million dollars is being spent for r&d by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba to develope this new MPU. Don't think for a second this machine will fall by the wayside.

Just anything sony could but in the PS3 would be better than what is in the PS2.

WHOA! Calm down people... the topic was about "FFIX". The posts started talking about FFIX, then the same/old/eternal FF discussion began, afther that we had a brief talk about remakes and then next-gen consoles.
Guys, please, stick with the topic will ya?
IMHO, FFIX is one of the best games I've ever played. You must know that to like or not to like a FF is a personal choice 'cos the game makes you think about different subjects and it sometimes goes against something you think or it just complements your ideas ;) Got it?
Takmadeus liked the char "Amarant" from FFIX who is just like "Squall" from FFVIII which is the FF he loves. I HATED Squall just like I hated Amarant ;) You know what I mean?
Somehow he likes silent, introspective and non-social chars. It's his personal opinion... That's what makes FF so controversial.
I loved FFIX 'cos I never liked that "futuristic" look of the previous games, the plot IS complex 'cos it deals with death, fear, lonelyness... things people don't like to even think about and almost ALL the characters are enjoyable... It's much better to play a game where you like the characters than play a game where the MAIN character sucks (like Squall for me).
Enough talk, go play FFIX :) It has good graphics, good gameplay, good battles, good characters, good plot... And it has a little piece of every single previous Final Fantasy on it.

Ignorance is annoying. (Delita) If you would do any research at all and if you had the slightest background in ASM or electrical engineering you wouldn't be so close minded about your dislikes. I don't care if you don't like sony, nintendo, sliced bread, or your hair cut. But when you're going to start spouting misinformation and speculation, you're only really revealing to everyone your lack of fundamental understanding. nVidia is a terrific company and I wholy support their line of graphics accelerators for the PC, but nVidia does not create the begin-all end-all ultra high-end graphics solutions. Sony isn't relying on "just a better CPU" to power their Playstation3. As I said, they are doing massive ammounts of research and development with two other mammoth sized companies. Their "MPU" is going to be an ultra-complex solution not soley relying on the way of chipzilla or AMD (raw MHz).

hehe...... Omegainf is right..... that if you like or not a game, depends only on you, it is not a "standard" opinion..... as I, for example just love Vagrant story, and many (95%) of my friends, hate it the most...... anyway, yes man, I dunno, but I like the type of Char that hides his past, or is a loner...... Like Irvine of FFVIII...... well, not the best character (the best is Edea) but its pretty cool.....
anyway, take it easy guys...... if you have an poinion and you wanna express it, do it, but please, be aware that not necesarily, ppl will agree with you....

The second post i need to edit....but anyways i misread what was said and yes a new cpu or mpu would help and so would a new gpu...and as far has my backgrounds goes i have been using a computer for the last 11 years and haven't bought and premade computer since the 486.. therefor that is my background. Don't ignorant...you don't know me and i doubt you have read all of my post or anything about and are basing your bs about one post i made while i tired. I realy have not wish to get into an argument about this. I yes i don't like sony because they make lowgrade consoles that break like mine, my friend who is on his third and others on this forum.

You have too much negative thinking :D I dont think ive seen you use smilies either...
FF7 and FFT are my fav among the FF series, with FFX being second and FF8,9 third.Maybe its because I have not played the earlier FF's.

I wish that FF7 had put a cap on magic so that you characters developed more like magicians/ fighters, rather than a free for all. example, say Barret was unable to use Thunder till leve 12 or something.

Well they did have advantages and disadvantages like lower magic, mana and and others. Materia will help, but certain characters are just better in using magic :p

I only like realistic graphics if there's realistic gameplay to match. For a game like Unreal or NFS 5 I want realistic graphics but for a fantasy game like FF I'd settle for more anime-style graphics. It just doesn't seem right if the graphics are realistic but the gameplay is completely fake, ya know?
