View Full Version : Why is the rest of the world 2nd rate?

Eh, this is basically just a complaint. It seems like with many, many, MANY games, when non-Japanese versions are made, we always seem to lose out. Features are always removed. Extra secrets, hidden characters, sound tests, bonuses, etc. I just don't get it. If the programmers put it in the original, and it was RELEASED to the public, why can't the non-japanese versions have everything that the originals had?!
I've played games in japanese, korean, and english... and while I speak all 3 languages, I live in the US, and obviously all the games I get and have easy access to are in English (but stuff is taken out of korean language versions too, cause usually there's a japanese release, then an english release, then translations to other languages come last and they're basically direct from the english version) and I think it's unfair that to enjoy all the full features of a game I have to import a japanese game at some ludicrous price or not even be able to find it anywhere.

I've never played an import in my life, but I've heard that they're quite different. I too can only wonder why. Different regulations in different contries, maybe?
That isn't always the case (like in FF7), but it does seem like that is the usual case (like Castlevania 3...or MGS 2 >_<). I think it's silly to remove features, especially when it often costs more to take it out than leaving it in would have been. Between that and lousy translations (getting worse thanks to all those voiceovers), it's getting to be a real problem.

Country regulations, and other stuff makes the original games become into no original, for example there's the Spain adaptions of everything as the only language allowable there is their mother language spanish, and of course the games the japanese released always differs from the american ones. And not only games also in anime the cartoon network anime is awful the dubbing and they change the BGM and original music better know why the do that
I want to live in Japan each time I think about this. They get al the best RPGs first. That and there is a virtualy unlimited supply of Anime
Only problem is I'd have to learn Jap.

I don't really think it's fair that we get all the lesser software. I mean, even when we got FF5 in Anthology, it was a dumbed down version. Fortunately, I have a full-strength version for my SENS emulator. Translated, of course.

Well, I don't know much about why..but i do know the reason why Final Fantasy II (actually final fantasy 4) when it was released in the US had things missing. The reason was that Square Japan thought that the original game was too hard for American RPG gamers so they toned it down and took out some parts to make it "more enjoyable" for the US player. IMO I'd rather have the original.

Is that why I didn't like FF5 very much? :p

Forget even changing content, although that is a huge annoyance - you can chalk that up to japanese ignorance of the non-japanese market I'm talking about removing features. Like for some reason mini-games, extra characters, sound tests, stuff like that are always seem to be removed. No matter how clueless japanese companies are about what the non-japanese gaming market likes, they HAVE TO understand that we don't want less right? I mean that's just stupid.
Sorry, I just get pissed when I'm checking out walkthroughs or anything like that and I see ALL this crap that's like "japanese version only"

If 2 years of learning can let me speak Jap like a Japanese, I'd go for it. Other than playing and understanding Jap games, I can work as an english teacher in Japan too :D ( Teachers get good pay in Japan )

I think this problem same as regulation about "encryption software" in USA that prohibited to export high-level encryption software to the foreign country ; "the rest of the world 2nd rate".
Maybe the Japanese too...
Maybe...
And the ludicrous price is some dumping issues. You can buy "Made In Japan" products with less price if buy it outside Japan.
I have another question. How come games are always released so late in Europe. I mean it isn't like they need to chage that much compared to the US version do they? I never noticed any differences. I hate it. When I used to live in Europe all the games would come out when the graphics are already obsolete. This is especially the case with Console games. Now I live in Asia and everything comes out together with the US and Japan. Whichever version you want

You don't have to know Jap to do that. I'd love to do that, but I figure I ought to do my degree first :p
