Yup, it's one awesome game. I recently managed to get the PC port of it working on my GF2 so I might replay it again, right after FF8.

You mean it didnt work because of your gfx card is geforce3? if so, read this thread http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17749 :)
Na, It don't work because of XP, and at the moment I don't have the space to multi-boot

G-Pitts and Demigod, I tried FF VII last night w/the patch and, while it gave hardware accelerated 3d, I couldn't use FSAA. I tried them all and there were glitches and problems in every mode. So I uninstalled it and will settle for PSX version FF VII instead. Thanks for all the help though.

You need to download the movie codecs and the RIVA 128 patch but otherwise it works just fine. However, others on this board have experienced problems with FSAA on GF3 and GF4 cards so it might not work too well for you.
It's not the FSAA taht's the problem. It's that it kills itself during the bike chase scene.

I got past the bike scene by switching the compatibility mode was on and using the 14.21 win2k detonators. However it still crashes at the chocobo racing so I'm not much better off.
When I get my RAID card nex week, and re-partition my HDD, I'll be making a FAT32 partition for 98 as there are a couple of old dos games I wanna play, as well as FF7.
If I do that, I'll get past the Chocobo race for you if you want.

AFAIK, there's no way to get past this point.

I just started it yesterday, and I enjoy it a lot. Just one question though. WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO DIE?!?!?!?!?

Why the lovely Aeris has to die, its so sad  , the ending is bad too.

Oh no...not another bad ending. Better or worse than FF9?

Yeah. Otherwise, everything is right in place :(

In my humble opinion, I think the ending of FF7 is worst than FF9 :D. It's just too short, and very unclear. FF9 might not beat FF7 in term of storyline, but the ending is a little bit better. You want an example of a good ending? Try FF6.

I aggree. VI had a very good ending. I liked VIII's better, tho.

The ending of FF7 was a bit too short, but there's a lot more to the game than people realize.
Here's some interesting theories on FF7.
FFVIII had a good ending. Then 6, then 9, then 7.
I haven't completed 4, I did complete 5, but ZSnes crashed on me before I saw the ending, and I hadn't saved in a looooong time.
FF7 is good because Aeris dies and people tried everything to get her back. That's what makes FF7 so good. A main character dies.

It was necessary for Aeris to die. Being that she is the last of the Ancients and the Ancients knew how to work w/the planet.......But no more, anymore would spoil it for those who have not played it yet. Remember, as IM Ho Tep (the Mummy) said, "Death is only the beginning."
FF VI ending was great but so was FF II/IV's. I mean, the brothers, the moon, and everything else. Truly great.
Sincerely,

Seriously Sxamiga, your Imhotep joke is soooo funny. :D :D :D :D :D Honestly, I laughed like hell after reading that. That's a nice idea. I wonder how you thought of that. :D
Ok, back to the topic. I'm still wondering what happened to the characters in FF7 after the ending. Except for Red13, everyone else seemed to be missing...
It did seem like there was a load of loose ends to tie up.
FF 8 and 9 didn't have taht. Neither, I think, did 6. So what was goin on there?
G-Pitts
May 6th, 2002, 03:37
Maybe human has been wipe out from the planet. After all its the planet who decide its own fate.

**May contain minor spoilers**
According to the theory by John Brittenham (in the attachment in my previous post) humans may or may not have been wiped out by Holy. True you don't see any humans in the ending sequence but right at the end you can hear the sounds of children...
The fate of Aeris is also up for grabs. She did say she'll come back when it was all over, and Holy does have the power of resurrection (it gives life to all creatures). Cloud also says something about it ("I think I can meet her... there").
**end spoiler**
FF7 was a very complicated game. The story wasn't as simple as other games, with many subtleties and details. To fully grasp the plot you have to go way beyond the boundaries of the game. It's not really the battle between Cloud and Sephiroth, but rather the ancients and Jenova.

Fujita, I did not "think" that up. Im Ho Tep said that just before his soul was taken and he was sent to the under world. If you have seen the Mummy (not the orighinal, the remake) then you'll know what I mean. As for it being funny, I don't think it is. After all Obiwan was struck down, but he only became more powerful.
For some, it would seem, death is, truly, only the beginning. Perhaps it was the same way for Aeris. That she could best help Cloud and the others, plus aid the planet as well, by dying. Maybe her death is what started a reaction that ultimately unleashed Holy.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

Exactly. Aeris had to die in order to unleash Holy, and she knew it. She knew it was her destiny as an Ancient. The Holy materia will only activate when a soul searching for Holy reaches the planet. She's the one who ultimately saved the earth, the true hero of the game (one of the game's many illusions). She's the first and last thing you see in the game (excluding the last FMV). Of course Cloud and the others helped, destroying Sephiroth so that Holy could be freed, but Aeris did the bulk of the work and made the supreme sacrifice.

Wow that's deep, a story like that is what made the game the greatest.
Has anyone here played 10? What's it's story like?
