Okay, I need all users possible to help me test this new feature for FIMP. The player is now going to attempt and detect your bandwidth rate automatically instead of making you select from two radio buttons. I want to get as broad a range of results as I can. I want to make sure that the detection process is accurate. So, what I need you guys to do is go to the FIMP (http://fimp.flaredomain.net) site. Select a remote song from the drop-down and let it play for a little while. After ten seconds, the player should have successfully detected your bandwidth rate and will display it to you in a pop-up message. Then, I want you to post that number in here and the type of connection you have.

I'm still working on making this as best as I possibly can. Thanks for all of your help, everybody. :)

Great! Thanks! Keep em coming! :)
JUST uploaded the new Alpha. So, it'll look different from evil aloha's shots. New features include loop and shuffle modes, skin-compatible mouseover routines, bug fixes, and a new feature for the stringquery param. This'll make it easier for you people that can't decide what songs to listen to. ;) http://fimp.flaredomain.net/player.asp?media=random

Once again, thankyou all for you help! :)

This is just for my reference. I'm on a fractional T1 right now and I'm getting 237530.

Hmmm....that's odd. What kind of a connection were you on with this shot, Keith? It's only supposed to display that value on a LAN connection, seeing as there wouldn't really be any bandwidth. Did you possibly play the same song twice? If so, I'm guessing that the reason for this could be that IE is caching the media and doesn't need to re-download, something I didn't anticipate, which is the reason it can't detect the bandwidth....because there is no stream available to analyze.

Also, I've updated a few things with the 51102 Alpha build. Preloading seems to finally be working. I'm going to extend upon this a little, but I'm glad the basics are working. There was an odd bug in the last build preventing the shuffle mode from working properly. When the current song ended, it was supposed to randomly select a new song and begin playing that. For some reason, I'm guesing it tried to switch songs too fast and would lock up with the status "Connecting..." I'm pretty sure I've solved that problem. The broadband detection is a little different as well, now. It's going to give you your value and try to guess what kind of connection you're on. Thanks for everybody's input on this. I took all of your values and used those to help the player assume your connection. Please let me know if it's not correctly detecting your connection so I can get it right. There's not really much else that's been done other than adding a few checks here and there to prevent more bugs from popping up.

So, one other thing before I go, I'm looking for some more people interested in developing skins. It should be a farily simple process. Post, Email, PM me, whatever....

Thanks again for all your assistance guys...

The sound quality is about as good as it'll ever get for 56k users. If it goes any higher, it'll buffer way too much. ;)I got nothing
What version of wmp you got?

It didn't automatically detect that for you???? It should give a msg indicating that it couldn't detect the proper version of wmp and then redirect you to the download page.

At the first time, I was using a Win98se and the program detected it automatically. No problems with the site...
