Long title 'eh? Well it seems that video games can't convey ideas, or thoughts or anything, not making them protected under the constitution..... But if they can't convey ideas then who cares who plays them? Obviously some people need to be fired....

The only part that pisses me off is the fact that he doesn't really make any sense by saying that they can't convey ideas. As I said already, if they can't convey ideas then what does it matter?

"The court finds that video games have more in common with board games and sports than they do with motion pictures."

I think this article just goes to show how out of touch governing bodies are with games and gaming culture. Hell, even in the NES Super Mario Brothers days games were capable of conveying ideas. Last time I checked all games have things called "words" and "text" (if not speech itself) and if these mediums can't spread ideas, then nothing can.

It is most likely though just an attempt to censor. By branding games as a mindless medium, games lose their constitutional rights, and the government gains the power to ban and censor material. But the government is obviously being hypocritical, as they KNOW games CAN convey ideas, or else what is it that they're banning and censoring?

Take it from a father and grandfater, namely me, if a child can't tell the difference between reality and a video game, then that is one "sick" child who, in all probability, has not been raised properly.
Video games HAVE been proven to increase dexteritry, hand/eye coordination (which helps in sports), and keep kids off the streets and at home, where they belong. My son played video games as a child. He is now 22, a straight A student at the University he attends, and is studying to be an RN (registered nurse). Does this sound like a "warped" child to you? I think not.
sincerely,
