View Full Version : Ripping Playstation Music with plugins?

Okay, I'd love to be able to take music from psx games (like Breath of Fire III) and rip them to wav or mp3.... but the major problem is they aren't in a format supported.... I can find the actual music files, and winamp will even open them (it calls them mp1 format)

If psx emulators can play the songs, why not winamp?

I know nothing about plugins for emulators. Would it be possible to create a plugin for winamp that uses the same technology as psx plugins? is it possible to turn psx plugins into winamp plugins? If I could, or anyone else, be able to do this, it's be so easy for people to get the music from playstation games, but right now it seems impossible.

You can use a program called PsxMC to rip songs but only songs using XA audio, not the PSX's synth. I don't think its possible to rip those types of songs yet. There might my some way to do that. It would be cool if they could be ripped in a similar format as SPC. But I have no clue about how the PSX's sound hardware is so i am not sure if it is possible to make songs in SPC-type format.

Yeah, I got Psx MC, but that only works for games like Tail COncerto or Gran Turismo 2.... but it's still a great tool. I wish I could find out information on making a winamp plugin, then with the permission of the memulator plugins owners, try to use that technology.... but heck, I dunno anything about plugins

YOu try playing in a windowed mode and use the sound record option in windows to record what you hear.. Most sound cards supports this feature..

If you search around www.winamp.com or www.nullsoft.com (I can't remember which) you can find out how to create plugins for winamp. I hope that helps. When you make that plugin make sure you give me credit on giving you info on how to make winamp plugins. ;)

Like i already said somewhere there is currently no way to rip "MIDI" music from PSX. SPC-like ripping is impossible, because music player must run on main PSX CPU, not on "black box" co-processor like in SNES. There also some games on SNES that can not be currenly ripped(LotR, for example) because they are depending on main SNES CPU. No one bothered to do MIDI logger in his SPU plugin yet, but someone(maybe me) will do that. Also i know that many PSX games are using generic music format for MIDI, but no one tried to reverse-enginer it(or i just don't know).
plugin for playng XA/STR in winamp can be done, you should ask those who created PsxMC or other similar tools.

Oh I never knew it ran on the main CPU. Thanks for that info. :)
