Has anyone played this GREAT RPG?! IT'S SO GREAT! I love it, I bought it for 18 bucks, not a bad price for such a GREAT game, I need to get Grandia 1 again because Grandia 2 reminds me of how GREAT Grandia 1 was.......

Yes, IMHO, Grandia II is superior to Grandia 1. The graphics are bigger and more detailed. But Grandia 1 is also a great game. Don't pass up either one if you have the chance to play either of them.

Grandia 1 is a great game and grandia 2 is just as good, i hope for a grandia 3 if it continues like this(i think they then have a chance to beat final fantasy as the best rpg series, given the last CRAP final fantasies, sorry, but i just had to say it)

Yes there is grandia X which from what I have read is called grandia X not grandia 3 for a reason. I have played and beat both and i like grandia 1 more. And yes grandia is better than the newist Final Fantasys that suck big time. This post reminds that I need to rebuyggrandia 1 and rebuy grandia 2 for the pc.

But isn't Grandia X (Xtreme) is going to be foucsed on the battles not the story.....Grandia has a great battle system but is that an excuse to kill the story

Movies may never play again . . . But not under Win XP :)

I just finished it!!!
I know what you guys are expecting now, but sorry, i just HATE this game!
The story is linear, dumbed down, stereotypical and boring.
It's the same with the characters. I just didn't want to see them (okay Millenia was cool, but you only got to see her for a few times)
The Mapdesign is EXACTLY like Grandia 2, without any orientaion, you run around endless boring ways and from time to time get the chance to cut something with your sword, which is exactly one type of object per dungeon. The dialoges in towns are tiresome and just not interessting.
The fighting-system is so repetetive its almost unbelievable. PLUS the fact that this game is so easy that all i had to do was to rapid tab the enter button. Everything will die that way and you probably won't even catch a scratch and yes, the same tactic applies to the bosses, there's nothing that comes even CLOSE to what i call a chalenge. Sure, you can use nice looking spells, but thats just for the show, once youve seen them youll get tired of them very soon. (lol, i just noticed i haven't seen the reviving spell even ONCE in the game...)
Did i mention the graphics yet?
Well, as disappointing as the rest, they are EXACTLY of the same quality-level as in grandia 1 (which is Saturn-quality i might ad!!!) with a higher framerate and bigger textures. Only in the fights the graphics improved, but already after a few minutes you will have seen everything and it gets boring.
The skillsystem is stupid, i dont want to go into detail, but you can basically forget about it, just upgrade randomly anything and you will be fine.
My complaints don't end here!
A short 30 hours of boring gameplay make this game look like a subquest of the original Grandia. sure, the endless battles will give you the feeling of time passing infinitely slow, but that's also not something to be proud about.
This game is a shame. I really don't see what everyone likes about it so much...

-What?! You must be playing it for PC at 320x240, because they Graphics are MUCH improved over Grandia 1, I bought Grandia 2 for DC.

I think Grandia 2 is okay in term of graphic, at least compared to the predecessor. Now, I found one bad thing about Grandia 2 (well, not exactly that bad). The gameplay hour is too short. Honestly, you can reach the final dungeon in 20 hours. Trust me, you can. ;) And there is only 1 subquest, that is if you can call it a subquest.
Asz
April 26th, 2002, 07:15
But, Goldensun was only 20 hours long (I beat it just under 20 hours) and it was still a great game. :)

I agree, but that depend on the particular game. In my opinion, if the game is short, for example, at least for 5 hours gameplay, and after finishing it, I felt very satisfied and said to myself, "Wow! That's quite a game!" Then that is a great game. But if I said, "What's this? This is a great game, but that's all?" Then that would be a problem. :D The same happened to me with Grandia 2. Just when I thought there's a lot more to be done, the game ended just like that. :(

I finished and had"that was fun..."
only with chrono trigger i had"LET'S DO THAT AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN" i've finished it about 40 times from the beginning i think, but that's some time ago.
Finished suikoden 2 recently: GREAT, just great, this is how rpg's should be: graphics are okay(i'm someone who doesn't need graphical requirements to satisfy him). SOUND IS SOOOOOOOOOO SWEET. and the story is nice, now i'm playing it again to get all 108 stars and get the good ending.
but grandia 2 is much better than everthing after ff8(dunna bout ffx)

Maybe you feel that way because the bosses were ridiculously easy, and the game itself doesn't have difficulty settings either.
The only boss that took me two times to beat was the Eye of Valmar, and after I figured out what the eyeball bats did, it was an easy battle from there. ;)

yes, the graphics ARE bad.
the inviroments look lifeless and artificial, in exactly the same way i already hated about grandia 1. And the animations there aren't even worth talking about... The most exciting thing you will see is an object that rotates (WOOOOOW! AWWWWESOME!!!)

Put your glasses on and take another look. Unless the only system you ever play was X-Box (or that PS2 cube where they hooked up around 40 PS2s and rendered "Antz" real time) and then played Grandia 2 then you are completely wrong, maybe I should bust out some screens from Grandia 1 & 2 for a little comparison.

I've never played the first game but from what I've seen from Grandia 2 I can tell I'm going to like it as well.
I've mostly played Final Fantasy games and Grandia 2 was a refreshing change from it. The environments were much better. In FF probably the only thing you remember about the towns are their names (since all the buildings look similar) but in Grandia 2 each town had a distinct quality to them. The graphics were great, no pre-rendered backgrounds, but full, glorious 3D! The amount of detail in the game is just incredible, not only in the design of the towns and buildings but also in the individual houses (vases, mugs, chairs, etc.). I thought only PC games had that much detail but this game proved me wrong. The animation was good as well, and was what most impressed me when I first played it. And of course the battle is miles ahead of the turn-based FF gameplay. The story could have been better though. Overall it was a great game and very addictive. I admit that for the last part of the game I was completely hooked. I just couldn't put it down and had to literally pull myself away from the computer. I haven't been so entranced by an RPG since FF7.

Xeven - hey, your smiley is out of it dude..
-I know it's a modified smiley from the AOL IM smiley faces. It's the smiley with a foot for a mouth, but I edited out the foot and put a smile, now he looks like my friend mitchell.... WHO JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE IN JAIL. (If you wanna know why take a second look at the smiley)
Demigod I'm glad to hear that you love Grandia 2! But I do agree (now that I just played a boss) that the game is a bit easier then I'm used to ( *cough* FF8 *cough* )
P.S. - I don't see how you could think the graphics in Grandia 2 are just like the graphics in #1 I mean all the charaters were 2D sprites for god-sake!)

2d is not bad..... the implementation of it can be bad.....
oh well, it's a nice rpg... BTW my new licence plate for my moped has got a nice lettercombo :RPG
IT'S A RPG MOPED!!!! lol
nwayz... Grandia 2's story is a little bit worse in the beginning than grandia 1 but soon makes up for it... And u have got a boss worth slaying, if it's a god, it needs to be killed. If it's a human thinking he's god, there is an official wanted sign all over the land. But only the heros will do it. That's why i like that rpg..... nice but not TOO cheap story(there were better stories...ff7 anyone?)

I found the "Eye of Valmar" rather easy... the only boss I had a little trouble fighting the "Valmar Core", close to the end of the game.

It's not like what it seems. I like Grandia 2, as I like the first one, and also most other RPGs. It's just that I don't get enough of it. Yeah, that's the word. :D Look at the bright side. At least I got to play a DC game on my PC.
Yep, the bosses are easy, especially when using Millenia after she got the Eye Of Valmar power. This thing even works on bosses. "You're scared, aren't you?" :D

EfrainMan, just what do you mean by that? Some people may have more time but others do not. I, for one, do not. Between my family, my job, daily living, and the boards, I don't get enough time to play my games as often as I would like. But I put up w/it because I have to. Let me tell you, I could get lost "literally" for hours playing Dungeon Siege. So, please do not "assume" that everyone has all the time in the world to play their games. Just the lucky ones do.

sincerely,
sx/amiga I apologize for what I may have implied, it's just that from what I've read over the months I've been here, there are a few people here who finish games a lot faster than I do. I'd forgotten that Grandia 2 was also on DC and PS2, and was only thinking about the PC version which came out rather recently. I know you're the last person who has all the time in the world for video games, as am I. There are a couple of people here who do, and that's who I was referring to. :)
