What is the best RPG to buy for the computer or a PS2
Kane
April 24th, 2002, 01:44
The greatest RPG of all time is arguable. I'd say either: Chrono Trigger or Xenogears
MR.Knowitall
April 24th, 2002, 01:52
Thank you this game is sweet ;) if you know of any more games this please tell me.
Kane
April 24th, 2002, 02:02
I like FFTactics too, but there are hundreds of amazing RPGs out there.
MR.Knowitall
April 24th, 2002, 02:05
Besides the graphic diferences between FFT and the other newer
FF's that was the best one.
RedMob
April 24th, 2002, 02:12
you guys have ps2 CD's??

April 24th, 2002, 02:14
For me its ff7 on the psx :)
Auri87
April 24th, 2002, 02:52
i would say for the ps2, MGS2SOL
for the psx, tales of destiny 2
Demigod
April 24th, 2002, 04:18
Definitely Chrono Trigger. I just  that game. Too bad the sequel wasn't as good.
Ninjaa
April 24th, 2002, 05:17
Chrono Trigger is the best RPG of all time.
On SNES! NOT PSone!
REi_FoX
April 24th, 2002, 07:09
thats right chrono trigger
Kellicros
April 24th, 2002, 07:56
I like Thousand Arms and Tales Of Destiny 2 very much, both are on PSX.

IŽd go for the Suikoden. Plus, thereŽll be a sequel in no time!

you could try summoner, i've got it on the pc, but there is also a ps2 version. i've seen it on sale for $20.

April 24th, 2002, 09:17
I don't know why everyone hates CT PSX version... if you play it on the emu and enable PC FPS calculation, save and load times are instantaneous... just like playing on a SNES. Plus you get all the nice cool extras
REi_FoX
April 24th, 2002, 09:21
it is really slow!!!!
RhombusYSS
April 24th, 2002, 09:24
Why am I ignored? Yeah, it's slow on the console, but like I said, enable the PC FPS calculation in any of Pete's GPU's and save and load times are instantaneous... Same speed as SNES.
Ninjaa
April 24th, 2002, 09:25
Rhombus, I don't like it because the music and sounds just don't sound right, the graphics don't look as good, and the movies on the English CT disk are slow as hell. (You would know what I meant if you ever saw the Japanese FMV)
Basically, I just got the movies ripped off the Japanese CD, and play Chrono Trigger on ZSNES, or on my SNES. Either of them work fine, although I prefer ZSNES most of the time because my monitor and sound system kick so much ass compared to my TV.

April 24th, 2002, 09:53
well as for best RPG game it's Chrono Trigger.
But since u asked for a pc game. FF7 or Fallout (2).

April 24th, 2002, 10:15

suikoden, suikoden 2.
legend of dragoon has got some nice graphics.

Skies of Arcadia is good, and will be released for PS2 soon.
Ninjaa
April 24th, 2002, 12:51
Not soon... It is pushed back past May 2003 for PS2. More than a year basically. It should be out by Christmas for GameCube.

The English FMVs for CT seem choppy, even when I extracted them to avi's
Killua
April 24th, 2002, 17:46
Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal is the most complex, exquitisite, and the best, for me, that is.. sorry if its a pc game:_
sxamiga
April 24th, 2002, 17:52
The best RPG? that is quite hard to say, since there are so many out there. But for me, on the PSX it would be Wild Arms, SNES- Breath of Fire, Genesis-Phantasy Star 4, PC (you did say computers, right?)-Dungeon Siege, SMS-Phantasy Star, and NES-Final Fantasy.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

It's a problem with the English version, and one of my biggest problems with the CT PSX game. I seriously don't think Square could get any lazier. The Japanese movies are nice and smooth. (But it still sucks on PSX)

April 26th, 2002, 05:40
Another thing that I found in CT PSX (it maybe not too obvious), the battle loading seems take a bit longer time than before. Anyone notice this?
Ninjaa
April 26th, 2002, 10:01
Load times in general are more pronounced in Chrono Trigger PSX. Just another reason to hate it. It was a lot better than Final Fantasy 4, 5, or 6 on the PSX though.
Jordi_Overlord
April 26th, 2002, 10:48
Chrono trigger an Chrono Cross are amazing
I you prefear FF series the best are FF6 and FF8
(any of the Square games are highly recomended) :)
Ninjaa
April 26th, 2002, 10:57
ummm... yeah.
Have you ever played Legend of Mana? If that game doesn't make you cringe, Parasite Eve 2 will for sure. You could also throw in a dash of FF8, or Saga Frontier too.
Trust me, Square is not the best gaming company ever. Lately their games have just sucked.

April 26th, 2002, 14:04
it has to be final fantasy 7 or zelda 3 on the snes
Xkalibur
April 26th, 2002, 15:20
I like secret of mana because not only was it like Zelda but it was also allowed 3 people to play at once. It had great graphics an alright story and the best gameplay there was in its time. Secret of mana 2 was also good bt lacked the multiplayer option. It though have better graphics and a better story. It also allowed you to choose 3 characters to play with out of 6 you could start with. Allowing for plenty of replayability. Both these games were on the best RPG console to date the Super Nintendo.

April 26th, 2002, 19:17
Baldur's gate is the best rpg on the PC that I have very played. On the psx I like grandia, star ocean, and both Lunar's. I like to play ct on epsxe because I have in iso form and d3d or opne gl do an better job at render it than zsnes.
RhombusYSS
April 26th, 2002, 22:39
If you wanna use D3D or OpenGL, you can use SNES9X cause that can use direct3d and OGL filtering... I played through CT using it and it looks great
fujita
April 27th, 2002, 02:52
Saga Frontier is good, well, at least for me it's not that bad for an old game. :D You should hear the musics. Its' cool.

April 27th, 2002, 02:59
i dunno... i never really found either saga frontier or baldurs gate that good a game, saga frontie i stopped playing early on, didnt really like how it played, and baldurs gate i got to chapter 5 but it got really boring

I know I have already had my say on this subject, but i did fail to mention one other excellent RPG. Unfortunately, a lot of you will never get to play it. That RPG is VAY and it was released for the Sega CD. AFIK it has never been released for any other system.
Excellent game.
sincerely,

April 28th, 2002, 10:43
I don't think any RPG will be able to surpass Planescape: Torment. That game was really something else.
> That RPG is VAY and it was released for the Sega CD.
It is pretty good, but it also isn't a PS2 or PC game. :p
sxamiga
April 29th, 2002, 00:07
Ryos, I only mentioned it because the Sega CD is now emulated, quite well I might add, on the PC. So fi you could find it, you could play it on an emulator on the PC. I kow that it is not a PS2 or PC game, that is why I mentioned that it was for the Sega CD, so as not to mislead anyone.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

April 29th, 2002, 18:03

April 29th, 2002, 19:36
Florindel, no, VAY was released in the US in English. The company that released it was Working Designs. They also released Lunar and Lunar 2 for the Sega CD. Both in English and both in the US.

FF8 wasn't that bad a game. It was just different. I found it quite enjoyable, although it doesn't come close to the best RPG.

May 2nd, 2002, 04:16
