I'm just wondering about what is your favorite file finder?
In terms of speed and percentage chance of being able to obtain the file after it is found, what file finder is your best? I'm curious cause I don't know which is the better one.
I have tried:
Morpheus
Edonkey
Is there any that I haven't mentioned that are better?
your reply would be appreciated.
thanks

I've only used Morpheus before, I don't know about the rest. Unfortunately I can't use any of them since Rogers high speed internet won't let me run any kind of server or file sharing program on my computer.

Well there is Kazza

Morpheus and Kazaa are interchangeable. It's just Kazaa is spyware, while Morpheus is not.

I got disconnected by Rogers for running a FTP server and they also informed me not to use Kazaa or any software that allows people to connect to my computer:(. The software will run but you're risking termination of your connection by doing so.

Hmmm....I never knew that. You pay money to use the internet but you don't have freedom to do whatever you want...that just sucks...

Well, it's in the license agreement (section 7 or something) that you will not run a server or any service that'll allow remote connections to your computer. Of course most people don't bother to read the thing. I think you have to sign-up for a business connection if you want to run servers.

Heh, I didn't read the licencing agreement. But all those licening agreements are too long, i can't read through all of it. :D

Oh yes it is! Try running Ad-aware after installing it!
Also, Morpheus is no longer part of the Kazaa network, they got booted off. So they took the open-source Gnucleus client, changed a few icons, stuffed all their advertising and spyware crap into it, and released it as Morpheus Preview Edition!
And when Kazaa banned Morpheus from their network, they were able to remotely change the user's registry (!!!) to stop them logging back on.
All these programs are ok for small files, anything large requires you to leave your pc on for days on end.

hmmmm that sounds outrageous demigod ...you pay for your upstream bandwith why shouldnt you be able to use it how you want thats why they cap the upstream signal so no matter how much you send out you can only use the bandwith YOU are paying for
i can see them banning ftps/web servers but trying to tell there customers they cant use the upstream bandwith they pay for for what they want is highway robbery
heres a suggestion get kazaa and click the box that says dont share with other users your isp should have no problem with that if no one can connect to you..but you can still get songs

But they might not like it when his computer turns into an ad-server, courtesy of the included Brilliant software (you DID read the EULA didn't you :) ).

Hmm, well I got caught because I put my FTP on the default port of 21. I don't know if they'll disconnect you if you use p2p software but it's generally not looked upon well. I guess as long as you don't run a ftp/web server it should be fine.

yes but if you read up on it bde is a snap to get rid off same with the spyware i would of suggested kazza lite but i dont know if it has that option since i never tryed it i removed all the crap from the original kazza so i had no need to try it
edit::::yes demigod using port 21 will get you busted in a snap and i dont think they can legally disconnect you for using P2P softwares

This may be a bit belated, but it seems that mIRC, eDonkey and KaZaa are the best right now, yes? Do any of these need something extra besides download and install?

Why not use Grokster? its the same as old version of Morpheus and it use Kazaa network.
Kazaa is far too slow. I get 1 k/sec tops. considering there is over 1000 times that much avaliable.....

If you guys want a good file sharing program that doesnt have any spyware you should check out Kazaa lite. It has been completely hacked free of all the spyware and nasties that were in it. I use it and it runs really well. I have no problems and my pc is completely spyware free. :)
Here is the link to the homepage.

MIRC is really good for file transfers but you need a fast connection. Its not required, you can certainly used dial up for it, but you wont be making very many friends :). The only problem with MIRC is that iff you loose connection on a file then it doesnt atomatically resume, plus you cant really serch for more sources, but i suppose if you had a fast intenet connection you would not need these features. Seeing i am stuck with dial up at the moment looks like I will be using Kazaa Lite for awhile. Kazaa lite is pretty good for dial up users though. :)

I gotta start getting the hang of mIRC, where's a good place to learn things like file sharing? Or is it esoteric knowledge I gotta find for myself?

It is something you will need to find out for yourself.
