View Full Version : Best Non-Series Game

Just wondering what everyone's favorite NON-series games are. Ok, here's the rule, to classify as a NON-series there have to be either 2 or 1 English language release, no more. Let's try to stay away from RPG's for the most part, as there are tons of 1 and 2 game RPG "series". So here are a few of mine:

Blaster Master
Xenogears (the RPG exception)
Kid Icarus
Strider
Golgo 13 (as far as I know there were only 2? anyway, if you had the patience to even beat the first one, that's pretty impressive!)

Damn, finding good non-series is hard, as these days every mediocre game and its mom gets a couple of sequels!

well, even though it was re-released a few times and has a sort of prequel:

Snatcher

hmmm.... This is a tough one.

Pikmin
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Perfect Dark
Valkyrie Profile
Jet Force Gemini
Full Throttle
North and South (NES. Fun as hell with 2 people)

That's about all for my list. :( I know that I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what at the moment.

It's easier if you pick RPG's... but ya I was trying to stay away from them cause, like I said, there's a bunch of good RPG's that only have 1 or 2 English language releases (Chrono games, Star Ocean, Vagrant Story, Vandal Hearts, Lunar, etc etc).

Oh yeah, and also, MGS is a pretty big series! Well not the "solid" part... but the Metal Gear series has been around for quite some time... and if you haven't played Metal Gear and Metal Gear II for the NES I strongly suggest you do (although they're so hard they make the MGS games like a cakewalk)

And for an addition I add the two Tenchu games to the list!

well, it's a series, but i like LUFIA I & II all the way.
crono trigger is VERY good, just because.
a non series game that is very good?..... though one.....
red faction, because u can blast the level to bits.....
oh yeah, nice one ninja, full throttle, finish it in 1 hour or so.

and of course hentai games, they are fun too.

See the thing is... there wouldn't be that many. If a game is raelly good as a "non-series" game, immediately a series will follow since hte publisher thinks money can be made from the games. So basically really good non-series games are from not so long ago.

Oh yeah... I raelly liked Black and White as well

Cless
April 20th, 2002, 20:42

Strider
April 21st, 2002, 03:55
pfft, thats nothing, besides it adds to the difficulty... ever tried playing thief? that game had the best computer ai and you had to sneak around a lot in the levels and make very little noise

He didn't say it was forbidden . . . it's a non-series game, it's my all-time favorite game, and it's an action-RPG :p

Kane
April 22nd, 2002, 17:25
You're right, he did only put it as a guideline. Of course in that case, I'd have to say Chrono Trigger.

The best none series game is Valkyrie Pro... wha?? No RPG? Okay.
The best none series game is Megama... wha?? No series? Sorry.
One none series game that I considered best is Total Annihilation. It's a strategy game, and it's not a series (with the exception of TA Kingdom). I like the original more than the medieval type. Because when they say 'total annihilation', they really mean it. :D

I know it says game, but there are two non series games, both for PC, that I consider among the best. They are Mage Slayer and Get Medieval. If any of you have played either of them, you will know why I say this.

Hmm...Here are some of my favorite non-series with 2 or less games in it:

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (PC)
Max Payne (PC)
Megaman Legends 2 (PSX)
Daytona USA 1 (Arcade)
Descent 2 (Well, this may be stretching it but I liked this one the best of the others :) ) (PC)
Command and Conquer: Red Alert (PC)
...there are more, I just can't think of them now.

im stuck in dues ex. i am not able to remove that msg box at the centre top of the screen. After an incomin transmission, a notice 'message awaiting....' appears at the corner of the message box and then after the message doesnt disappear. I want to remove this msg box, coz the biggest problem it causes is that I am not able to save. I cant quick save, neither when I click on esc and try to save from the main menu, the option is not highlighted. Could anyone plz tell me how to remove the message or reply to it, so that I can save whenever I want?

Well, I've got to agree w/Kid Icarus for the GB and since some people mentioned single series RPGs (even though they weren't asked for), VAY for Sega CD. If you can find it, try it and you'll see what I mean.

sx/amiga

Einheri

Well, I've got VAY for Sega CD and frankly, I can hardly see something exciting about it. The story is nothing special and the battles are so frequent and monotonous they can bore to death even hardcore RPG gamer like me. Also, I can't recall any other game that requires so much leveling up as VAY, you have to spend hours and hours beating monsters and building up your levels just to survive in another regular dungeon where step left/step right means another random encounter.

Einheri, you are netitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to mine. Most peole I have talked to have enjoyed VAY throughly. It is a classic RPG w/an interesting story line. This I why I like it. Alos, leveling up is not so hard to do and the battles go pretty quickly.
sincerely,

regarding dues ex, i solved the msg box prob. But now there is another one. I have completed all the primary goals, but I am unable to get off the docks and onto the boat. When I reach near the boat, the boat officer says lets go, the boat is ready. But how do I get onto the boat. I have only one secondary goal remaining ie. goto the break room and check out with Anna, but anna isnt in the break room. She is on level 4, in her own quaters, and she also advices me to follow my orders and goto the docks, to the boat. I have checked the walkthrough and it says nothing specific on how to get onto the boat. It just says goto the docks and im in Manhattan. Plz help me on how to get off liberty island?
