I was a knight and use speed break with a combination of the speed increasing skill and hp restore as my counter. Then when my speed was at like 30+ and his speed at 1 I kill the him as wiergfef(?) and with alll the speed I had I kill easily.

It was 2 years ago when I beat that guy, I remember that I beat him by pure luck. Quite a number of attacks missed or something like that happened. I couldnt beat him the 2nd time through and gave up after 5 tries :(

edit : Now I remember. I used accumulate alot before beating his human form. With all that accumulation he was quite a cake even as after reviving as a monster :)

Damn , I had forgotten that way last two weeks where I stopped playing.......

using a knight with all the "breaks" is the only way to go
best if you sub class a ninja 2 swords ability
i remember mostly the one on one fight with weigraf where he killed me no matter what every time in 2 hits till i thought of using 2 swords + power break for -3x2 to power after another one of those his blows werent even affecting me
this was 2 yeasr ago too so it is a little foggy

i think this thread gave me the inspiration to play this again
screenshots will be posted

I remember beating him, but it was more luck than anything else. I first beat him using epsxe using save states but it didn't save afterwards for some reason (damn savestates). I played it using VGS afterwards and beat him. I used break abilities for Wiegraf, then I used Monk abilities (that earth attack) to pummel him to death. I don't remember clearly how I did it but there was some amount of luck in there. He missed some attacks that probably gave me the edge to beat him.

I beat him without savestates. Pure luck, once again. It took me about 20 to 30 tries though. I hate levelbuilding.

2 swords + power break is the key...............

My hint of defeating Velius most probably has been known to many. But the secret to tackle this monster is to upgrade yourself before he turns into that Zodiac monster, that mean while he's still in human form as Wiegraff.
There are two skills that may come in handy:
1. Ninja ability - Two Sword
2. Chemist ability - Auto Potion
First, throw away all your potion and make sure you stock up lots of high potions. This is to optimize your auto potion, so that you can heal yourself a lots automatically when Wiegraf hit your with his Holy Sword skills. Equip the best swords you can get in both hand, provided that you've learn two sword.
When fighting Wiegraf, don't kill him straight away. Instead, keep running away while upgrading Ramza with Accumulate and other skills to make him stronger and faster. If you have done enough, lets say, Ramza can move for 6-7 turn consecutively, then beat Wiegraf. He will turn into Velius. Now come the best part. All your skills and stats that you've gathered while fighting Wiegraf will be carried forward to this battle. For sure Ramza would have the first turn, just whack Velius with his two sword, turn after turn. I managed to beat Velius this way without even giving him the chance to move. Try it and good luck. ;)

You can use Weapon break to disable his Holy Sword skills. Thats what I did, i think.

You can confirm that by looking at Wiegraf's status. If he has the 'Maintenance' ability, then you can't break his weapon. I don't remember about this, unfortunately. However, even if you do break his weapon, the real problem still hasn't being solved, Velius that is. Of course, by breaking his weapon, it would be easier to upgrade Ramza. ;)

Monk is the answer to all your problems,I always stayed a monk during the whole game, and with all the abilities I had,it was really easy to beat him :).

The monk is nice but he abillity to raise your speed to 30+ is nice to have and reduce his attack and speed to 1 is the most helpfull I think but the monk has some nice skills.

I transferred my save file from my borrowed from friend memory card to my cousin's memory card, and the data got corrupted. Curses , I was trying to beat Velius when that happened. ARGH!!

I think the Monks Hamedo or whatever ability is great...attacking before being attacked is so sweet. It costs 1200jp though

monk with extremely high brave is very useful
add concentrate to make your attack a sucess
char with shields will likely block monk's attack
I managed to kill it within 3 turns
the next form is too easy 1 attack from my monk is enough to make it in the critical status

This battle was so frustating that I forgot about the game for a week's time.
The bad part was I had my Ramza as a samurai so I had him with monk skills and I formulated a plan of where to move so he won't kill me.This is a very tough battle make your choices carefully and you won't have to start the game over.
