I remember hearing a long time ago about someone who was going to do a remake of Chrono Trigger for N64. Does anyone know what became of that project, or even if it is still alive? I always wanted to see what the game would look like.

It was a fan based project. Of course no official developer could do such a thing, since the trademark belongs to Square. But it was just going to be a non-profit fan project, so they couldn't be sued. In this case I would say that the N64 isn't quite dead. I just want to know what happened to the project.

I found the original article about it. I'm once again very interested in it.

If I knew, I would be downloading it. Seriously, I think the dude dropped off the face of the earth.

That would have been so good. I was really looking forward to it when I first found out about it, which was a long time ago. I'm guessing that the project probably was dropped. But then they might be working on it very secretively and they may release it.

I hope they release it... it sounds very promising indeed.

Yes, is sounds very good indeed. But, perhaps to good to be true. With a team so small, the things they want to include seems almost too unrealistic.

That was Square. In the early days of the N64 they made a tech demo for the system that featured Final Fantasy VI characters in full 3D. I actually have the movies on my computer. I assure you that a Final Fantasy 64 would have been great judging from that clip.

I don't know... Until FFX, Square's worlds were not fully 3D rendered. The idea of having a fully 3D world with Squaresoft characters, especially FF6 ones, seems intruiging to me.

Has a remake ever been made by a fan based team? If not then it looks unlikely there will be one now.

There's always a first. Let's not forget the multitude of classic NES games that have been hacked to create sequels or new games.

The news is really old though. I wonder wether the project was discontinued. It sounds incredibly cool though!
