I remember Unreal...that stupid Predator-like creature slew me without question every time I played the demo. I'm so bad at FPS...:p The graphics were surpisingly good for that time.

I still play taht. Serpentine Unreal anyway. It's just annoying that it's sluggish.

Great game. The best part of the whole game is when you first emerge from Vortex Rikers and see the beautiful outdoor graphics. Jaw dropped when I saw that. You're playing the game with the wrong video card, look for a v2 board or a voodoo1. Play it in its native glide mode. Direct 3d in unreal is slow and never looked right

Did you try the expansion?

Yeah, that game had mind-blowing graphics when it came out. Personally I thought the sky in the game was really impressive, as well as the AI. One time a Skaarj saw that I was close to a ledge and rushed at me, forcing me to back up and fall. The only thing bad about it was the multi-player, which was why I was so surprised by UT.

Hmm, the shots do look a bit dark, as usual on Nvidia cards. Direct3D isn't bad (it's much improved from its original release) but the game really shines in Glide. Unreal looks very sweet on my Voodoo 2.

The expansion was less than what I expected but it was still fun. The assault rifle was a pretty good weapon and those Marines were pretty tough.

Yeah, I'm gonna pick up a Voodoo 5 PCI, so I'll try it again then.

Yeah the AI was impressive. I played this one level where a Skarrj (sp) saw me, ran over and rode the elevator down to get me. There was also a stage where I jumped into the water to get away from one and he dived in after me, too bad he can't swim and just floated on the surface. HA HA! The other thing I liked about the game was the music. Suited the game well in places, especially the matrix like tune that plays when you're in the sludge refinary. The nali were a riot too.. muagaba! muagaba!!

Can't wait to see what they're doing with Unreal 2. The screenshots I've seen are amazing. :laser:

when unreal and halflife came out they set the bar higher for all fps games... halflife had better level design imo and used its engine to the fullest, but unreal he really good graphics and creature design (it was the first game to use skeletons for characters so that when they move you can see all the muscles and limbs moving too, instead of the r2d2 movement where you just glide forward)

The only FPS that I have ever liked is DOOM. DOS rules!

I figure that a game is good if I can be bothered to complete it. Few FPS' manage that. Dark Forces was really enjoyable. DF2:Jedi Knight was good all the way through. DF3:JK2:Jedi Outcast (I wonder why they dropped the DF?) was kinda annoying till you got the sabre. Then it whooped everything.
I also completed Doom and Doom 2, and Sin. There are a couple of others, but I got to bored so cheated to finish them, and Half-Life just didn't do anything for me apart from Counter-strike.

You cheated to beat sin too?? Cool game at least for the first couple levels then it was like... WHEN IS THIS THING GOING TO END!?!? The graphics were only a little bit better than Q2. Blade looked like a gorilla (see his long arms, almost touching the ground?), plus you spent way too much time looking for switches. The expansion was a little better. Not much though.

Sins problem was it came out at about the same time as HL. The nail in the coffin.

I didn't cheat till the end of SiN. I really liked th humour, it's waht kept me going, and allowed me do download that freaking 20 odd meg patch over a shared 56k modem, which didn't have unmetered access. I like games with a bit of humour to spice things up. Sam, while being funny at times, is interspersed with too much boredom. Only way I could be arsed to get to the end of it was by cheating *sighs*
