Anybody remember this game? Wow...what a classic. I recently became bored and fired up a new game. This was the first Zelda, I think, that I seriously got into. Sorry that the pics don't really span a long range of the game. I haven't been playing very long ;)

There any screenshots out there of the newest Zelda they're working on for GameCube. Better yet, they got movies?? If I ever got a GameCube, the Zelda series would be the reason.

For movies, try www.ign.com

The sample movie that demo'd the hardware had enormous promise. Unfortunately, the actual footage of next Zelda looks terrible. I hate the homogenized, disneyfied style of that game. I want an epic game with detailed, fantasy art, not the next Disney feature film...

It's a shame really. :( :( :(

This was a great game. I never beaten it though. I got stuck in the 7th crystal palace and couldn't get to the next room. It really bugged me for quite some time. Too bad that I lost my save file that had that game, then I'd still try but now I don't know when i'll start playing it again...

The new zelda is cel shaded. I got a copy of the movie from IGN a while back, but it's probably locked away under INGsider now.

As for the cel shading, I really don't mind it. As long as the gameplay and plotlines are consistent with the previous incarnations, does it really matter if it is cel shaded? I think that the cel shading just makes it look more like the SNES Zelda.

vivrantpig
April 7th, 2002, 01:30
the cell-shaded zelda is going on gamecub but the normal looking zelda is coming to ps2.. yup datz rite ps2 ;)

Woh Woh Woh! Hold up a second...
Sony is a competitor of Nintendo. Zelda is a Nintendo product. This just doesn't make any sense. Why would they put a title from one of their hottest series on a competing console?? I don't understand why the would give up the exclusiveness.

Ninjaa
April 7th, 2002, 09:10
It's not true. End of story. However, Sony's mascot, Crash Bandicoot, IS going multiconsole. Let me make something clear though. The following are Nintendo trademarks:

Mario
Zelda
Pokemon
Donkey Kong
F-Zero
Metroid
Wave Race
Fire Emblem
Earthbound
Kirby
Kid Icarus
Excite Bike

Do NOT expect to see them on any console that doesn't have a Nintendo logo on the box.

The following are Sony's remaining Trademarks:

Gran Turismo
Everybody's Golf
Parappa The Rappa

Do NOT expect to see them on other systems.

The following are Microsoft's trademarks:

Expect to see them all on other systems.

Anyway, that's my rant for now. No, I did not have a point, other than that Zelda is NOT coming out for PS2.

In my opinion its the best of the zeld series, not by the graphics but the story and the development of the game

Yeah it's Great . Nintendo Could do a Remake of it to 3d , but based on Zelda 64 Style !

If they do that it will be the most intelligent thing that nintendo was supposed to do *EVER*, well guess Mario Cart is something intelligent to :D

ShADoWFLaRe85

Why not? They did a remake of the first Zelda for NES on the SNES (only released in Japan, though)

Ryos
April 7th, 2002, 20:50
I wish Nintendo would do a remake of Zelda 3. It was by far my favorite entry in the Zelda series. Unfortunately, there ARE screenshots and a movie for the new Zelda game, although I'm hoping the recent silence from Nintendo on that front means they are retooling the looks.

ShADoWFLaRe85

retool? ha! it's more like the game needs plastic surgury!

yeah I hope they improve Link's looks...last time I saw he looked something simmilar to "Don Bluth" style animation which can be seen in those early 80's laser disc games like Space Ace or Dragon's Lair...yuck! :spy:
I hope Nintendo get some real animators (like Sunrise or Gonzo) to do the character designs this time.

Ninjaa
April 7th, 2002, 22:28
They are NOT changing the looks of the game. Nintendo announced that about a month ago. It will be released later this year, and it will be cel shaded. However, they have changed Link's appearance a little.

But think about it a little. Everyone likes Zelda 3. Now compare it to the graphics from the GameCube Zelda. does it look similar?

Ryos
April 7th, 2002, 22:38
> But think about it a little. Everyone likes Zelda 3. Now compare it to the graphics from the GameCube Zelda. does it look similar?

Not at all (perhaps because the 2D graphics aren't sophisticated enough to reveal how cartoony they are in Zelda 3). The GC game may be fun despite the look, but that doesn't change the fact the style is hideous.

Ninjaa
April 7th, 2002, 23:01
Well, I have to admit that was my first thought on it as well, but check out the enemies in the movie most especially. They are very much like the enemies in Zelda 3. The look has really grown on me. It would be a difficult choice for me now to decide which style I would prefer. I think I would lean toward cel shading.

But please remember this quote:

"I think it's not wise to talk about something before having the chance to test it. Only playing you can judge a game and, after E3 2002, when you all will be able to play with the new Zelda, we will talk again about it." - Shigeru Miyamoto

Ugh, if Link's going to look like that then I think I'm gonna be glad I don't got a GC yet, he doesn't look right at all, surely they could have made him at least the way he looked on the N64.

Ninjaa

Link doesn't look like that anymore. They changed his appearance a lot since that video was made. Check the shots on the previous page though. Other than link, everything else looks good. Nintendo has said that his eyes in particular are changed.

Link has a stereotype that can't be changed, but looks like that in this last one they' tried to made something new, maybe get him more "animeous"

In other words, like the perfect look of the Space World 2000 demo? I guess Miyamoto thought it was too dark for the target audience...or too restricting...or something.

Ugh, I hope they have improved Links look from that picture. He looks like a girl, sort of like a large Tinkerbell if you will.
Zelda on PS2????? No way, never, ever, gonna happen. Nintendo is trying to beat out the PS2 not encourage it. Putting Zelda and Link on the PS2 would do just that, encourage people to buy the PS2. Before I believe that one, I'll need some good solid proof.
If I remmeber my Zelda "rankings" properly, in order of popularity, the first two and most popular Zeldas were: 1. Zelda - Link's Awakening GB & GBC 2. The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past SNES.

I regards to Ryos' post, Miyamoto said that he didn't like the direction the series was going in. Zelda was becoming more realistic with the N64 Zeldas, and wanted to bring the series back to its roots. I know that most of you will disagree with me on that, but I really see what he is trying to do. Zelda was always intended to be a light storyline, rather than the dark, realistic story that it became.

I would post the interview, except I really can't find it anymore.

it is true dood.. read it in the psm magazine.. heres exactly wut it said..
"Remember the cool adult-looking Zelda game that Nintendo showed before changing it to a younger style? Well, that mature Zelda title was never cancled... just moved to PS2! Because Sony aims PS2 at older audiences, Nintendo doesn't really see them as the competition, and has therefore anounced a partnership with Sony. 1080 Snowboarding, F-Zero and a new Punch-Out have also been anounced for PS2. Hey, Gamecube's loss is our gain! We'll have lots more in future issues"

vivrantpig, this is April, it is time for April fools jokes, magazines are well known for putting April Fools jokes in their magazines and making them seem authentic. But, think about it logically, Sony and Nintendo together?????? Then why isn't Sony announcing it, why isn't Sony developing for the GC and GBA, why isn't Sony............ Do you see what I am getting at. This is just to unlikely to happen. Sony and Nintendo have been at "War" for years, they are not about to become buddies now. Nintendo teams w/no other console maker, they only have w/Sega because Sega is no longer making consoles. Nintendo goes it alone so does Sony, they alway have and, as far as anyone knows, they always will.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

That type of April Fool's Joke isn't unique either. While browsing around the web, I found numerous mock news postings that described unlikely situations occuring all over the place. In fact, many were posted in the forums. ie: Bill Gates is Dead, NVidia Purchases AMD, Final Fantasy XI Last-Minute Offline Mode Addon.
They're all jokes and I'm sure this one was as well. Surely they must have stated that somewhere else in the magazine.

it works fine for me
here is what it says
====PIECES OF HEART====
You start the adventure with only three hearts in your Life Meter; worse than
useless for such a long adventure. An extra heart container can be found in
Sanctuary, and a further ten will be granted by defeating the keepers of the
various dungeons. This brings your total Life Meter to 14 hearts; six more can
be found by finding all 24 Pieces of Heart which are scattered throughout the
two worlds. Here are their locations:

In the north-western-most corner of Kakariko Village is a cave near a well.
Jump into the well from above, and look along the north wall for a weak spot.
Blow it apart with a Bomb and enter the cave for the Piece of Heart.

Next to Sahasrahla's house is a small grey hut which used to be used by the
thief Blind. Go into the house's basement, and destroy the weak north wall
with
a Bomb. Inside a chest is the Piece of Heart.

Near Kakariko Village's House of Books is a house where two brothers are
feuding; one has sealed the door to his brother's room. Blow open the room and
you will be able to access a maze, where if completed within 15 seconds the
supervisors will reward you with a Piece of Heart. The required route is:
north, second west, second east, diagonally south-west to just below the sign,
then south over the fence and west to the goal. Cyber Predator's record is
nine
seconds.

Enter the Desert Sanctuary; inside the room where Aginah is, Bomb the weak
south
wall. Enter the hidden room with the Piece of Heart.

Enter the Desert Palace, and after emerging from the south-west corner of it,
travel south along the plateau to reach the Piece of Heart.

West of Sanctuary, on a plateau, is a pile of five light-coloured rocks. Use a
Dash Attack to reveal a cave entrance.

Reach Spectacle Rock, where two platforms can be reached by jumping off the
ledge. The western cave allows access is the entrance to a passage leading to
a
Piece of Heart.

Enter the Dark World and travel to the place equal to Spectacle Rock. Use the
Magic Mirror here to appear on top of Spectacle Rock, atop which lies the
prize.

There is an entrance to the Lost Woods just north of Kakariko Village, near a
Fortune Teller's House. Enter through here and travel north, and you'll
eventually reach a clump of nine bushes. The middle one hides a cave entrance,
inside which is a Piece of Heart

Climb to the summit of the Pyramid of Power, and gradually leap down the
various
levels until you come to the eastern-most point of the bottom level. Along
here
is the Piece of Heart.

After purchasing Zora's Flippers, swim south and over the first waterfall.
Then
travel west until you find a green slope; travel up here to find the Piece of
Heart.

Near the Lumberjack's house in the far north of Hyrule, the two Lumberjacks are
working hard at felling a tree. After defeating Agahnim for the first time,
they disappear. The tree they were working on has light-coloured leaves; hit
it
with a Dash Attack to reveal a cave entrance.

At the Ice Lake (west of the Ice Lake Cavern) is a circle of stones, where an
island would be in Hyrule. Stand in the shallow water inside this circle and
use the Magic Mirror to warp back to Hyrule, where the Piece of Heart is within
easy reach.

After draining the water around the Swamp Ruins in Hyrule, there will be a
Piece
of Heart waiting at the bottom of the pond.

South of the Dark World's Haunted Grove is a circle of bushes. Stand within
these and return to Hyrule, where a cave can be reached. Enter the cave and
push the blocks out of the way to reach the Piece of Heart.

Near the Graveyard in Hyrule is a cave, which doesn't seem to have a way to
reach it. However, enter the Dark World and at the corresponding spot is a
ladder which leads to a dead-end. Climb the ladder and use the mirror to
appear
on the platform cave, Bombing the weak north wall of the first room to reach
the
Piece of Heart.

In the foothills of the Dark World's Death Mountain, enter the cave which
corresponds to Hyrule's Death Mountain entrance. Traverse the chambers to the
blue bumper which blocks the path. Using the Magic Cape, you can pass the
bumper and explore on to find the Piece of Heart.

In the north-west corner of the Village of Outcasts, there is a game where you
can open two chests for 30 Rupees. A Piece of Heart is randomly placed in one
of the chests.

Remember the Piece of Heart gained by completing a maze within 15 seconds? At
the location equal to that maze in the Dark World there is a game called the
Treasure Field, which costs 80 Rupees to play. If you're persistent, you'll
unearth a Piece of Heart.

In the Dark World at the location equal to the Blacksmith's shop, there is a
large number of purple stakes. Hit them all with the hammer, and the tree
stump
will turn into a cave entrance. Inside lies the Piece of Heart.

In the north-east corner of the Swamp of Evil, there is a cul-de-sac. Stand
near here and warp to Hyrule, where you'll arrive on a plateau near a large
light-coloured boulder. Lift it up to reveal a cave entrance, which conceals
the prize.

West of the entrance to Misery Mire is a cave. Inside a chest here lies a
Piece
of Heart, but you need to manipulate the blocks in order to reach it.

At the Dark World's Death Mountain, travel west of Turtle Rock. There is a
large boulder which conceals a cave entrance. Enter the cave and walk north to
reach an invisible bridge which can be crossed using the Staff of Somaria or
Ether Medallion to guide you. Bomb the weak west wall and go south through the
exit, then use the Magic Mirror to find the waiting Piece of Heart.

In Turtle Rock is an exit in the same room as the chest containing the Mirror
Shield. Exit here and you'll find yourself on a narrow ledge. Return to
Hyrule
and you'll find yourself on a platform near a cave, which cannot be accessed
any
other way. Destroy the green Mimics with your Sword and Arrows to enter the
next room containing the Piece of Heart.

Why would a link to gamefaqs be blocked?

Kane

Gamefaqs don't like people linking externally.

Oops, Sorry for that. I forgot they don't like that.

Well, I'm now at the 7th crystal palace, but I'm taking a break from Zelda today(I've been playing it for about 5-6 hours now). I'll continue either tomorrow or the next day.

I'm finally at the romm where I got stuck. I just don't know how to get past it. I will post two screens a shot of the room (it's in the dark btw so you can't see the whole room). And the other is the map just so you might get a better idea of where this room is.

Here is the map.

Snake785
April 23rd, 2002, 22:38
Now in this room, I have to use a stone to put over a switch which opens a door in the lower left hand corner. Everytime I put the stone over, then I go on the platform to get to the door, the stone disappears. I need some help to get past this room. here is another screen. I'm in the 7th crystal palace.

ShADoWFLaRe85
April 23rd, 2002, 22:50
Okay....
Do you notice the little notches in the dotted lines? You can only control the direction of the floating block at those points. There is only 1 route that can get you to the door at the bottom left of that room. You'll find somewhat of a loop that does a one-way over to the door to the right of where the door would be. It's not too far to the right. It kinda loops down and around to the right side, going up, then heads left.

Snake785
April 23rd, 2002, 22:59
Boy, am I an idiot! I didn't need to have the brick on the switch! I just stepped on it, and the door opened and stayed open. Sorry for bothering you with that stupid problem.

ShADoWFLaRe85
April 23rd, 2002, 23:03

Snake785
April 26th, 2002, 00:20
Yay! I finally finished it! It was pretty easy though but I did it! I'm so happy! I have one question though, during the credits it said something about the number of games you played. I want to know what this is.

Omega
April 26th, 2002, 04:15
Guess when you finish the game you can play it again, face the ultimate boss many times you want, and every time you finish the end counter ups (i guess)

ShADoWFLaRe85
April 26th, 2002, 17:30
Could be...I don't remember. After I beat the game, a little "25" popped up next to my character on the selection screen.

Snake785
April 26th, 2002, 20:21
I found out that it is the number of times you saved throughout the game. And in my case I saved it once.

That is so true. If a game has crappy music, I may not like it. Even if a really stupid game can be good if it has good music.

This thread has next to nothing to do with Zelda 3 now. That those screenshots have been messed up in the screenshot problem is just another reason to kill it.
