I need some advice about some games:
Star Ocean and Far East of Eden Zero are being translated by Dejap. Are these good games?
Is Dragon Quest 5 as good as Dragon Quest 6?
Is Valyirie Profile good? Does this game work fine on ePSXe or Vgs? And Star Ocean?
Which one is better, Wild Arms 1 or Wild Arms 2?
Is Tactics Ogre a good game? Better than FFTactics?
Thanks for answearing.

1. Yeah, but you need graphics packs for them, which really isn't worth the bother.

2. Dunno. :p I have them, but haven't had the time to play them.

3. VP is VERY GOOD, works fine in ePSXE 1.5.1, VGS not so good.
Star Ocean is another excellent Enix game. I don't have Wild Arms 1, but Wild Arms 2 was kinda blah.

4. Tactics Ogre? Not as good as FF Tactics, but better IMO than Hoshigami.

Thank you. But is Hoshigami that bad?

Hosihigami is just like Saiyuki, so boring

Hmmm... Personally, I like Saiyuki.

Valkyrie Profile is a great game. i cannot tell which is better for wild arms though, mainly because i love the wild arms series for their somewhat hard puzzles. :)

For the question concerning DQ, DQ 5 is not as good as DQ 6, but I still liked it somewhat.

WA 1 is better than WA 2 in just about every area. Although WA 2 has some unique plot elements, it's very bland otherwise. WA 1, on the other hand, was a great game (neat music, plot, characters, almost as good graphics as the sequel, etc.).

Tactics Ogre is pretty good, but it definitely looks old (almost a straight port from the SNES version :p) and isn't as good as FFT. It is still one of the best SRPGs, and I prefer it to Ogre Battle.

i had valkyrie profile and played it for some time, and find it a sucky, repititive game, after you level up your character you have to send them and you are left with low level characters and now you have to fight tough enemies.

fujita

That is what you're missing. Even though you can send some of your characters to Asgard in Valkyrie Profile doesn't mean that you can't use them again. You can use all, I repeat, all your characters including Freya, Brahms and Lezard if you fulfill certain condition. First, you must find the certain characters, and second, you must gather all the Flame Jewels. Furthermore, you may don't want to send most of the characters if you're going to get the good ending, know what I mean. ;) Finished it three times already. :D
About Hoshigami, I would place it below Saiyuki and FFTactics. Why? The enjoyment level is quite low. The gameplay is not as enjoyable as Saiyuki and FFT. Worst, the plot is so twisted that some characters would not join your party permanently. I play Hoshigami halfway, then restart it again after I realize I missed some characters. Another bad thing, to get the best ending, one of your character has to stay dead. (I don't want to mention who because of the spoiler).

Well, is Valkyrie Profile worth trying?

Is Valkyrie Profile worth trying?
Depend on some people. If you ask me, then I would say, "GO FOR IT!" :D But some people may find it not interesting. So, I would try to give my opinion for this game.
The elements of Valkyrie Profile:
The characters are very well-created. You might find the characters quite interesting, and the design is very good. Unlike some RPGs with lousy characters. VP is more like 'platform RPG'. What I mean is, you will spend most of your time exploring dungeons, solving the mysteries and puzzles and fighting monsters. But unlike Castlevania, battle aren't realtime, but rather turn base like normal RPG. The graphic? I suggest you find screenshots, and you could find it in some good site like www.rpgamer.com. Plus, VP has three different endings, with the normal and good ending ended up in two different dungeons and storyline. And after you finished the game, you can see how good you are at the secret dungeon, Seraphic Gate. With all those playing, fighting and exploring, your gametime can reach above 50 hours. I hope that would help. ;)

I think I'll try it.

But there is something you might want to know before you buy VP if you are playing using emulator. That is because some problem would occurs and most of them are already known. So, if you're looking for solutions, look at the emulator forum. You might find the answer.

and you must meet the requirements within a timeframe, w/c means that although you can still use the characters that you already send, you will now have limited time to level up your newly acquired character cause of the time limit impose by the game

Are you referring to the time limit in the actual game? I mean the period/chapter thingy? Yes, I won't deny that. It seems that if you play in hard mode, all the characters you receive would be at level 1. Yes, this may seem like a drawback, but I guess that is what the 'hard mode' meant. The time to train the new characters would be limited. I guess that would test the player on how to use the experience orb. How the managed the experience and think before giving the experience gained. ;) Don't worry though, you can always train your character at Seraphic Gate, as the time there is limitless. :)

Is Dragon Quest 5 as good as Dragon Quest 6? good but not as good
Is Valyirie Profile good? Does this game work fine on ePSXe or Vgs? And Star Ocean? very good..needs EPSXE
Which one is better, Wild Arms 1 or Wild Arms 2? WA2 has better graphics..not by much...WA1 had some nice hidden replay value
Is Tactics Ogre a good game? Better than FFTactics? both very good..Tactics emphasized more on strategy then storyline though

I haven't played Star Ocean, or Far East of Eden Zero yet. I am waiting for the translations.

I haven't played DQ6 yet, but I am about 10 hours into DQ5, and I am really liking it.

Valkyrie Profile is awesome. I am almost finished it using ePSXe. I haven't had any problems with it.

I haven't played Wild Arms.

I have heard that Tactics Ogre was actually better than FFT. I have just started the game though. A Tactics Ogre for GBA is coming out soon. I will be buying it.

valkyrie profile was indeed a good game but i found it to be a little to easy, it would have been better if they made it more challenging

star ocean2 final boss is idiot. one bubble thing would able to kill it......but good story line....

Florindel

I don't really like hard final bosses (You know, those like in the Arc the Lad), so it's good if they are idiot.

Strider
April 10th, 2002, 21:58
chrono trigger was good with bosses... it always had sort of hard bosses, but never impossible, and they always took quite a while to defeat, so that sort of added to the fun... and the boss music was good too

fujita
April 10th, 2002, 22:24
One thing that I don't like about Chrono Cross is the final boss. You can't whack'em just like that with your combination and powerful magics, if you're heading to the true ending. ;)

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross had great bosses and good music. The best games i played.

I thought bosses in both CT and CC were pretty easy... but CC especially you could get way stronger than the bosses pretty easily. But then again, the bosses in most games aren't hard... haha, in recent Square games I have to die on purpose just to see what the Game Over screen looks like. I haven't been seriously challenged since FF IV (2)... but damn, was that game challenging! I had the "hard" version, so me and the game over screen were good buddies.

Ninjaa
April 11th, 2002, 01:39
LOL! Yeah, I saw that screen quite a bit as well. I have to say that I have seen it a fair chunk in Final Fantasy Tactics as well. I never ever level build in any game though, so I have seen it from time to time in the newer games as well.

fujita

Another thing I like about Chrono Cross is you don't have to level up or train your characters. The system itself managed the growth level. Until now, I still didn't understand the developers concept of Chrono Cross characters growth. I think it's almost the same as Saga Frontier.

Strider
April 12th, 2002, 01:50
i never liked saga frontier, it played sorta weird... anyways you said that ff4 had hard bosses... try ff6... ff6 had really hard bosses and ct had really long bosses

hi, if you still haven't bought valk profile yet and you're still wondering what it's like you can take a look at a couple of quick demos i put together.

first of all they are in divx format, so you will have to have the divx 3.11 alpha codec to view them, which can be downloaded at doom9.org in the downloads section under codecs. after you install the codec wmp should be able to play these demos without a problem.

http://www.lanset.com/dostrom/valk2.avi
first demo 11 seconds long, shows entering a battle
1.8 megs

http://www.lanset.com/dostrom/valk3.avi
second demo 35 seconds long, shows status screen, walking around, jumping, basic movement, entering battle, fighting.
3.2 meg

hope this is useful, also note that these demos were recorded at a pretty low res and were encoded using single pass, just wanted to get a couple working demos going for anyone wanting a quick peek at VP, wasn't going for super quality.

Strider, have you ever played FF4 hardtype? You haven't seen hard until you try that. It puts your RPG playing ability to the test believe me.

Yeah, right! I stopped FF4 hard after 10 hours, fast about to kick my computer. Even the Draque are easier!

I thought FF6 was really easy, the bosses too. Alot had special tricks to beating them though and you had to keep in mind the special abiliities of your characters and use them, you usually couldn't just use physical or magic attacks. Sabin could always pound on them with Blitzes and Cyan with Swordtechs and smart usages of Celes' Runic really could make some bosses pretty simple.

Yeah, I still say FF4 hardtype is damn hard. I dreaded even random encounters, especially if you forgot or couldn't afford to buy new equipment in a new area, the enemies would really pummel you and you would miss constantly.
