Either that's a mis-reading, or your CPU has the worst cooling ever :/

what program do you use?

I have Duron @800 (o'c) and the temp is stayed on 33-35 Celcius only.

mr2000jp, I have an Athlon T-Bird 1.2ghz and it never gets above 54 degrees celsius. Since mine is 400mghz faster than yours and you say yours is getting up to 74 degrees celsius, I would say something is terribly wrong. Either that, or your monitoring device is giving misinformation, as CD said.
sincerely,

actually the cpu gets really hot i touched it with my hand(the heat sink actually) not forgetting that the fan is working perfectly.

Hummm.. Did you put any sillicon compound between the CPU and heatsink to help transfer heat??
