I've been playing games like Quake 3 and Half Life for a while now and I've found that video games DON'T make people violent, and I'll beat the crap out of anyone who says otherwise. hehehe

Totally agree with you... :)
The problem here is... not people becoming violent by playing games, but violent people playing games...
Kind of scary (thrilling ?) to know that if you kill a gangster's perso in a game, he can find you and will beat you up...
well... it's not too smart of that guy to brag about it in front of them also... :)
The other interesting part of the article is the security measures they had to take to protect the anonymity of the gamers... (against bribery, ... ) :)

i agree with you adair.
i like playing car racing games alot, but that doesnt make me wanting to race every
car in the streets of the city , and having half of the town damaged
because of my mad driving.
but that differs from person to another . such games could cause bad habbits for kids.
see what i mean.
see ya...

i think that games are being used as a scape goat by peope or parents of people who have commited violent acts. They use them to try and blame thier ineptness as parents or functioning members of soceity.. Instead, they only need to go as far as looking in a mirror...

Personally I think those violent games acts (at least for me) sorta like therapy.....
If I'm pissed at something, and feel the urge to kill something...I ususally start a game of Soldier of Fortune (or similar).
After an hour or so with killing all them virtual baddies I don't feel like kicking someone's (IRL humans, that is) behind anymore....
Maybe I'need treatment or something, but because of the games I don't go around killing people...(or even beating them up) :)

I was watching the movie Scream last night and one of the killers said something that made me think of this thread. It was about movies, but it applies here too.
It was smoething along the lines of:
Horror movies don't make psychos, they make those who already are psychos more creative.
