can anyone get donkey kong 64 running smoothly? its not too bad, it runs at 60 fps, but it is slowed down for some reason. if i take the fps limitation off, it goes about 70-80 fps and is a lot smoother, just a little too fast. i think it would run a lot nicer if it had better fps limitation.

Quote from the PJ64 GameFAQ (http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14352) .
Why is the game not very smooth?
This game has unique timing problems which require an unusually high Counter Factor (ROM Settings) to avoid various problems. Therefore the updated RDB sets a CF of 4 - you can actually use a Counter Factor of 3 _most_ of the time - this will provide reasonably smooth video, and let most of the game run correctly, however, some parts of the game require a Counter Factor of 4 or higher to avoid errors - for these few occasions, you should change Counter Factor to 4, reset the ROM, play past the point from your last state save, make a new state save, put Counter Factor back to 3, reset the ROM, and load the new state save. If you don't understand or want to to do this, you must leave Counter Factor set to 4.

no, you misunderstood me. i know about the counter factor setting, but that doesnt change the smoothness of the game. what i am talking about is, when playing it it looks like its running at about 40 fps, when it is really at 60 fps. when you take off fps limit it gets really smooth but its too fast
maybe if i could change the fps limit from 60 to about 65 it would run smoother. anyone know how to change the limit like you can in epsxe?

This is the problem with tweaking the counter factor. Since it effects the timing in the core, it can have unusual and often undesirable effects on frame speed and/or smoothness. Because DK64 requires so much tweaking just to get it running, I wouldn't expect it to run perfectly.
