I installed the PC version of ff8 when I run the game, the intro seems perfect but then when the game actually starts, the color were totally screwed up. it seems the display driver is missing or something like that. It seems like the game switch back to 8 bit of color.

My desktop res is 1280X1024 with 32 bit of color and i am using 19 inch viewsonic monitor. I am also using Asus Geforce 2 MX video card with latest detonator driver. All other PC games run perfect except for this.

Any help??

BTW, when can I get the new config program for PC version of ff8? I went to that soundfont site but the page is empty. I really want that new addon pack for ff8 cuz the original config sucks.

BTW, i am using Windows XP. It works before when i am using Win 2000 but then after I upgrade to XP, the color in the game screwed up.

Maybe there are something to do with the Xp driver??

Any help would be appreciated!!!

You
a) need to make sure that you have installed the relevent patch for Final Fantasy
b) Get all the extra stuff you want from http://lightning.prohosting.com/~techd/ffsf/index.shtml

I'd hate to say this, but the problem is your graphics card itself. nVidia cards in general (TNT cards might be the exception, I don't remember for sure offhand) has been known to have severe problems with both FF8PC and FF7PC.

Considering that you just recently bought FF8PC, you may want to check this link: http://forums.qhimm.com/

It's to another messageboard, (called Qhimms forums) where there's a lot of information on the problem, and possible solutions. A majority of the members there have FF8PC, or are involved in modifications to the game itself. I am also known as "Goku7" there as well.

The Soundfont site? http://ffsf.cjb.net/, in case you when to some mirror site or something.

The soundfont site is having server bandwith problems. The webmaster knows about it, but hosting is also something that still isn't settled perfectly. The new soundfonts are like 15-20megs each, so therefore they keep running into bandwith problems.

As for the FFSF project, I'm their newest member. If you want, I can e-mail you something that you can use "in-the-meantime", untill they can get the main SoundFont back up for download. It runs off the Original font the game uses, so its an alternative for people who don't have access to high-speed connections.

In your graphics card settings, you may also want to try setting Texel Alignment to center. (If you are using a GeForce card) and try downloading all the latest patches. :D

It seems that not all drivers work with the patch !! That a big problem !!

You have to use an old driver for it to work. Which makes the newer cards a joke.

I am using Detonator driver 23.11 to play FF8 and it seems lots of problem occur...
I heard if i use the Asus 12.41 driver and it will work fine.

Anyone tried that before?

Detonator version 6.5 will also work, according to my friends at Qhimm's Forums. However, you may also get unusually slow performance.

Hmm so thats why my brothers Geforce 2 system plays that game so terribly. The drivers work but it's slow as heck. Expecially the FMV.

So basicaly I can't play it as I have a GeForce 3 :( (The first Detonators to support the 3 were the 10.xx, or it might have been the 12.xx)
However, it works fine for me as long as I install the GeForce patch.
I use Ficedulla's updated config and a load of SF stuf too.

just forget all the patch...they do nothing
just install asus' driver 14.10 and enjoy the game
