View Full Version : Slightly Squashed Screen on 16:9 Monitor

Decided to start playing Skies of Arcadia again, but noticed something odd about the aspect ratios.

-nullDC-r135
-dual monitor setup, first monitor is in 16:9 format (1680x1050), second monitor is 4:3 (resolution shouldn't matter).

I've tested fullscreen settings on both monitors. I made an animated gif to show the differences between three fullscreen setups, with different powerVR settings (correspond to the GIF I'm posting):

1) 16:9 monitor, Borders
2) 4:3 monitor, Borders
3) 4:3 monitor, Stretch

SoA looks perfect with setup 3 on my 4:3 monitor, but the widescreen setup suffers from a slight vertical squashing. Is it wrong for me to assume that the emulator is not accurately showing what the Dreamcast would have shown on a TV screen on my widescreen monitor? It's as if the screen should be squished horizontally by 2 centimeters (arbitrary number, but you get what I'm saying).

A couple of things about the GIF: The second, red-bordered image is the correct one. The black bar that's on the bottom of it doesn't appear on my monitor and is simply because of they varying resolutions. Obviously, NullDC ignores resolution when it's fullscreen as res doesn't affect aspect ratios.

Feel free to tell me I'm wrong if I'm wrong. Other games have the same issue but is less noticeable.

Does that happen with everything? Cuz I just took a screenshot from the BIOS and looks to be in perfect 4/3 to me. http://i.imgur.com/Q6Nnw.png

It was happening with other games, but I figured it out. I had to change the Cable Type to VGA (0) RGB from TV (VBS..etc.).

Problem solved :eyemove:.
