Tolkien is only one of the most influential writers of all time, either reinventing (or inventing, depending on how you look at it) the fantasy genre.

I would bet in the "inventing"
There werent much fantasy books like that, maybe Narnia chronicles, but im not sure when they came out (their cool, also)
