Should we call it "The (Horrible) Playstation Phone" or just the Playstation Phone??? well the choice is yours... anyways here is what i found on Engadget today:

It's hard to believe that what we're looking at is real -- but we assure you, the picture above is in fact the PlayStation Phone you've long been waiting for. As we reported back in August, the device you see is headed into the market soon, likely boasting Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread), along with a custom Sony Marketplace which will allow you to purchase and download games designed for the new platform. The device snapped up top (and in our gallery below) is sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (a chip similar to the one found in the G2, but 200MHz faster), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches. Looking almost identical to the mockup we hit you with this summer, the handset does indeed have a long touchpad in the center which is apparently multitouch, and you can see in the photos that it's still bearing those familiar PlayStation shoulder buttons. For Sony buffs, you'll be interested to know that there's no Memory Stick slot here, but there is support for microSD cards.

The particular model in these shots is still in prototyping mode. As such, the unit doesn't have a custom skin (not even SE's Timescape design seen on the Xperia devices), and is said to be rather buggy. We're digging into more facts as we speak, but it's likely that much of what we reported earlier is still accurate, and though the device could still be headed for a 2010 release, 2011 is looking much more realistic. Still, there's a lot of time between now and the holidays... so keep your fingers crossed!

mmmm what should i say.... FAIL??? i guess the time will answer that question but all i can see now is one of the most horrible design in the history of smart phones!

what do you think?

I don't see anything inherently wrong with it. It definitely looks better than the N-Gage. It'll be nice having dedicated controls for games.

I've recently started some light gaming on my Android phone, and while it's very capable both hardware and OS-wise, touchscreen controls generally suck. I could see myself upgrading to something similar to this in the future.

The N-Gage was released several years ago and we're living in a time where people expect there devices to look better not to mention the failure of the PSP-Go which seems to be the base for the design.

Again, I don't see what you're complaining about. When you're not gaming, the two halves slide together and you get a regular phone. When you want to game, you slide the screen up. It's the same mechanism as the Motorola Droid. What's the issue?

Edit: The article also says it's still in prototype stage.

The psp go was.........the 3rd psp rehash.........it had 1 joystick.

It flopped like a 80 year womans breast.

This is the 4rth rehash...........and it has no joysticks........and well..........

The issue is that i would prefer to have a keyboard there instead of the buttons etc. and since it targets games the overall design is terrible in my eyes.

If they are going to rip something off they should at least do it with conviction, no way in hell this half assed psp/phone thing can compete with the iphone looking like that.

Then don't buy it, there's tons of other phones out there :p. There's people that don't mind trading a physical keyboard for a d-pad/buttons. Virtual keyboards on near-4" screens aren't that bad, especially in landscape view.

I think it'll do better than the PSP Go. It's a more versatile device for sure.

I assure you, the thought never crossed my mind.

For some reason..... I don't want it..... This is coming from a person who loved his N-Gage. It seems even more "something breaks apart after one month of serious gaming" than the PSP Go.

I hope it's not the final production version, please don't go the slide phone way.... Please...... They break so fast for me it's not funny. :(

If they want any chance of this succeeding, Tegra2 and 2 joysticks. Sticks, not nubs.

Another complete failure.
The design of the PSP-Go doomed it from the get-go. Not even signficant price decreases would save it.

This exploitation of the Playstation brand name for unrelated devices isnt the first time Sony tried it.
Let's be real, people would buy anything called Playstation (including bricks of mortar, which could guarantee big profitability of course).

I like it. If I was ever going to get an android phone, it would be this one. Smart phones severely lack decent gaming controls. This is the solution.

Don't know why you guys are harping on the thing. It's an android phone. Just with game controls. And upcoming PS games. Good idea.

Hey, if a girl is named Playstation and she behaves like the name indicates I guess I would have to obligue and be happy to play all day long oO

so its a psp phone by name only. it doesn't play psp games. so its just another android phone with a slide out controller... yay...

Not liking it so far, but need more details before I can pass final judgment
