This is an interesting pack, consisting of several well known, and a few obscure Data East games. I'll break down the games I have tried on it so far.
Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja.
This is a nice cheesy, quarter munching, side scrolling game where you try to save "President Ronnie" and it seems to be emulated very well. I haven't tried 2 player mode, but it is available. You can continue to your hearts content, and with infinite quarters, it's just whether or not you want to spend the time to complete the game. It's fun on 2 player in the arcade.
Burger Time.
One of the best classics, this is a fun game for the Wii, although the classic controller sometimes doesn't feel like the best controller for the game. Sometimes my chef gets stuck and killed, but its better than the Wiimote. The levels seem to play like the arcade version, but I've not passed level 3 yet, so I haven't seen the 4th or 5th levels.
Burnin' Rubber aka Bump 'N Jump.
One of my favorite games, a game I held a Guiness Book of World Records on at one time, back in 1987. I love the game. But for some reason I can't play it as well on the emulated version. I can never score as much in MAME or this game as I can on the real machine. Still, it plays well with the Classic Controller.
Heavy Barrel.
The arcade controls use a spinner, IIRC, but this version isn't bad. It plays very nicely on the Classic Controller, and is great for 2 players.
Lock 'n' chase.
This is a great Pac Man clone, but the Wii version has very annoying buzzing going on. I don't know if they figured nobody would play it, or that there's a mute button on most TVs, but the noise almost ruins the game. I love the game enough to put up with it, but I can't understand why it has issues.
Magical Drop III
This is a very fun puzzle game, although it annoys me that Data East killed the company that made Money Idol Exchange for the Neo Geo, over copyright infringement. I prefer Money Idol, but this is better than nothing. It's a fun game where you put multiple balloons together. It has a nice anime look to it, and the classic controller is good. I like the game.
Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory.
A rare deco cassette game that is a bit frustrating. The game seems to "boot" after the cassette countdown, but I doubt anyone who isn't fanatical about accuracy is going to care. The game is difficult and the controls are hard to catch on to, but so is the arcade version. I'm struggling to learn how to play it.
Super Real Darwin.
A very bizarre but enjoyable shooter where you "evolve" your ship and shoot practically everything that moves. It is difficult, but worth playing. I like the game. The music that plays in the menu of the emulation pack is from this game.
Wizard Fire.
This is a nasty quarter eater, particularly near the end of the game. It isn't a game I'd play in the arcade, but its fun when no quarters are being wasted. It's a top down game where you fight baddies and try to save the kingdom. You have moving and attacking, there's not much to it, but its worth a play thru just to enjoy this game.
Now for the overall, it has set keys, so forget trying to change the configurations. If you want to keep your stats you have to load a previous game, choose load game. You can't have multiple players with multiple stats.
Overall for $19.99 its a great package if you like some of the games. I didn't rate individual games as its hard to fairly rate 20+ year old games. I haven't tried all the games, but the pack was well worth it to me.
I tend to buy legal emulation as I like to support the companies that made the games. This pack, other than Lock N Chase seems well done, and you can use the Wiimote (don't), Gamecube Controller, or the Classic Controller.
If you like 3 or more of the games, give it a try.
Not reviewed, Caveman Ninja, Crude Buster, Express Raider, Secret Agent, Side Pocket, Street Hoop.
Overall B- / 80% / 8/10.
