You don't buy any game new.

I certainly don't buy any new PS3 games that have been released. I try to get everything at the lowest price possible. And PS3 discs are pretty durable, aren't they?

I've had yet to experience any problems with used discs on my PS3. In fact, none of my used discs have scratches on them. They're all in really great condition.

Non sealed? Meaning that the game isn't sealed in plastic? Or no case?
No outer plastic wrapping (i.e. only the anal people would care).

Irukapooka
March 13th, 2010, 23:38
Yeah I don't mind about plastic wrap. As long as everything comes in great condition, then that would be the least of my worries. Besides, it's just a hindrance anyway. It's in the way of having you open up your game within 2 seconds. Hehe.

Huh? Mass Effect, Batman Arkham Asylum, Street Fighter 4, Data East Collection, New Super Mario Bros, all of these on or close to release date at full price, and I buy a lot of games off Steam, which is "New"...

For sure! It took me a while to get some of those PC wraps off. Have to take off the wrapping, then the two side stickers that keep it shut. Aye carumba! And yeah, I look for 'like new' quality, but sometimes it's not worth the price. At the very least, it'll be complete in 'very good' condition.

I'll say this about FFXIII. It's been a long time since a game engaged me enough to play it more than 2 hours at a time. And by long time I mean years.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 didn't do it for you?

I seriously think those side stickers are the product of the anti Christ. They are absolutely horrible to get off once you buy the game. Sadly, there are times when I can't even get the game open and I have to put it to the side until I can find some other person to open it for me.

No, that will be when they register your DNA and use that as the serial code when you buy the game. Then every "X" minutes you will give a blood, urine, or hair sample to verify that you are playing the game and not family members, friends, or anyone else!

I've been playing FF XIII, I like it.

I'm even willing to forgive the linearity if Vanille dies.

Unfortunately I don't think that is gonna happen.

I couldn't stand Vanille at first either.
You begin to like her once you find out what she's about.

I know, the happy go lucky attitude is just an act. It always is.

The Vanille in the first 7-8 hours of the game needs to gtfo.

EDIT: Finally ordering my own copy of the game, was playing a friends copy under various circumstances :p.

I refuse to pay 78$ usd at a local store. :(

I thank thee spyhop, for bringing hope to a mind frightened with the prospect of the very much awaited game being less enjoyable than one might think after so much daring changes. Now this lizard will be more calm about giving yet another final fantasy saga a chance. :)

I think FF13 will cause a greater rift among fans than FF12 did. That's going to get so annoying...

Spyhop
March 16th, 2010, 17:30
I don't think so. Only those who hate change would rag on the new system.

Most people before release: "Wtf. They changed the battle system? Screw that, this is going to suck!"

Most people after playing it: "........nevermind."

It needed the change badly. Remember my 1001 gripes about jRPGs not evolving at all? FFXIII suggests Square Enix thought so too.

Exactly. And guess how many of the FF fans fall into said category. I've spoken to 4 people who have it, and at least 2 of them complained is that it's too different from what they'd expect from a FF game. So, best case it'll be a 50/50 ***** fest.

What FF vets will love about this game is the return of character development.

Much of the beginning of the game has you running around with characters in pairs of two, providing opportunity for intimate character relationships.

This video is a spoiler but unless you are playing the game right now it shouldn't matter to you as it doesn't mention any specifics.
Very nice acting.
Apparently recorded with a cam so not very good audio quality.

Not everyone has the dollars for a HDTV you know!

My PS3 is hooked up to a SDTV most of the time cause the only HD screen in the house is this pc screen and hell be damned if a PS3 is gonna stop me from using my pc

Dynamo
March 17th, 2010, 23:27
Well that I understand somewhat if it's already being used by someone or something in the house at the time... But seriously, how many people here still use 480i tvs? Can afford good PCs apparently, and a ps3 and the game.

DarkSamus
March 17th, 2010, 23:34
My hand is up!

PC is in sig, PS3 is hooked up to my 68cm SDTV in the living room!

Screen tearing only occurs on SDTV's, and I really don't care about that at all. Those people need to upgrade already.

I don't find the shoulder buttons on the DS3 bad at all.

Yep, priorities first.

Those shoulder buttons are really preference.. I don't play a lot of shooters. Not that my 360 controller would be good for that anyway with the size of the dead spots in the shoulder buttons now from the years using it on the PC.

DarkSamus
March 17th, 2010, 23:44
Oh, we have a second 51cm SDTV in the master bedroom too that almost always has a PS2 connected to it.

When we do finally get a HDTV we will give away the 51cm SDTV to someone poor
The 68cm SDTV will be moved from the living room and placed in the bedroom where the 51cm is

A HD panel will only be bought when I can wall mount it to a wall the same day as we have young kids and have great fear on it lasting long and we don't have that fear while we stick to SD tech

Why does everyone think that? alot of haters on this game huh? Honestly,I think the game is great, battle system is the best part I think. The only real complaint I have about this game is the lack of towns and downtime like the traditional FF series games had.

I really don't see the big deal between shops on an object and shops on a npc you need to go out of your way to get to that has no unique dialog. I'm surprised how the first 20+ hours are said to be overly linear and easy. So far I've only found chapter 5 to be overly linear and a few bosses were actually decently difficult to 5*. The linearity has been totally story driven, giving the characters a background. Anyways, now that I've been playing it I know most comments on the game are just troll comments who watched a video on youtube.

So far I'm about 13 hours in to the 360 version. From what I've seen, it seems the major graphical difference is the lack of Anti-Aliasing (mainly on fine details like Lightning's hair) and the videos being down-scaled to a lower resolution. The lack of some Anti Aliasing bothered me at first, but after about an hour in it just didn't seem that noticeable anymore. As far as the videos go, my TV is only a 720p unit so I couldn't take advantage of the full resolution anyway.

I'm just glad that the 360 version maintains good frame rate and doesn't have and major issues. I would say if you have the PS3, there's no reason not to buy that version but if you happen to have the 360, there's no reason not to get the 360 version.

The 360 version version lags a lot in Gran Pulse, and there is no anti aliasing to speak of(the hair can't be anti aliased) the difference you are seeing is in resolution.

Also the games max resolution for real time graphics is 720p with pre rendered scenes at 1080p

I think I got my money's worth. Need 3 more trophies for platinum........
Attain all accessories........max out all characters.......and umm........get 5 star in all missions. Clearly some lifeless bastard designed these trophies.

I also have a complaint about Long Gui and his mini counterpart Shaolong Gui.

Who the **** designed them??? Hitler?????

I died the same way from both of them.

Bay(chance of casting disable on all characters)+
Ultima(does 50k damage if you aren't on all sentinel)+
Stomp(insult to injury)= Game Over and a nasty taste of cheat in your mouth.

Godamned nazi turtles. I had to use 2 summons on Long Gui after knocking it down myself 3 times to kill it.
