Gran Turismo- To drive or not to drive?

DOes any one know how to get the 1st gran turismo running properly? Some races work ok, most don't, it will go 3,2,1 then freeze??? Sometimes a race will be able to start but the next time it doesnt work???

Gran Turismo runs well with me. I'm currently use epsxe 1.5.1, pete's opengl 1.61, Eternal 1.20, Pete's cdrom plugin, scph1001.bin bios.
