Honestly I think it is a little too early to be calling this war especialy since my track record is so bad. After all I thought saturn would beat PS

Of course the SONY! even if the console would suck it would still win... after the PSX success the PS2's popularity is guaranteed...
What I think that microsoft's console is dead soon, yeah it's really powerful but hey, is anyone going to buy it??? don't think so... :)
(and I hope too)

NINTENDO

SONY already won!

Depend how many software(games) for that console.
Sony can die if no any company support their console...........

after E3, I'd say Nintendo will be the clear winner(on the sales, financial, marketing plans, but I can't predict the future ;-(). Hardcore gamers will probably prefer the X-Box, since Nintendo's games are more aimed for children(cartoon-ish style).

well, i thought the n64 will **** the psx but it didn't so i won't predict anything...

but we cannot compare a released console with an unreleased one...

we'll just have to wait...until more games are released then compare...

If you ask me, I think XBox is like the 3DO. An american developer try to make a console, everyone says "Woah!" then it dies. But I could be wrong and probably am. Also Microsoft is extremely well-known so that will probably help a lot. PS2 will be hella cool and I think it may win the console war, but I also belive in Nintendo. As the president of NOA said, "We try to focus more on originality". I think they do make some original games but once they make an original they seem to stick with it for too long and not try harder to make others *cough* Pokemon *cough*. But don't forget Sega! Sega will also influence buyers on what console to buy, after all they are splitting up the games and sending them to different consoles. But seeing as Nintendo has Sonic, and PSO, then I think they have a really nice chance of winning. Sony is getting mainly the Sega Sports seires, and Xbox is getting Jet Set Radio and some other games. But, I do plan to buy a PS2, GC and maybe even an Xbox -(lets not forget GBA!).

PS2 'will be'? The PS2 is out, and it's so unimpressive it's not funny...and before you speak of games to come, consider this.. a few of the 'killer apps' for the console are being released on other consoles..

I think that PS2 sucks! Sure it is popular now, but I have a feeling it may start to die out eventually. Microsoft Xbox is really powerful, but it doesn't seem like it will do as good as expected. Even though there are many things I hate about Nintendo, I think they have the best system. The Gamecube may not be as powerful as Xbox, but it sure is hard to tell the difference when playing it. Also, Nintendo has a lot more experience with gaming console, unlike Microsoft. I really like Nintendo, but I didn't think they would have as good of a system at first. Now, I think the total opposite.

It's really too early to tell what exactly WILL happen, but it's kinda fun to try and predict the outcome. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.

My only reson for wanting a PS2 is the Metal Gear game, but oh wait that's also coming out on X-box. X-box will also have a hybrid version of deus ex(my favorite PC game). But I'm still goin to say that X-box will suck, PS2 already does and will continue to suck, and Game Cube has potential, but I don't know alot about it. I'm hoping that it doesn't go the way of the N64(a good system with alot of crappy games.)

Ok, first. When I said 'Will be' I ment with the upcoming games. And secondly a console doesn't suck just because you think it will die out. - But think about it. Sony has games everyone has played and now they want to play the sequel. And to play the Sequel they (mainly) will have to buy a PS2. Everyone keeps saying, "The PS2 sucks!" but why does it suck? Because you couldn't get one at launch and just forgot about it? Or what other reason? I'm not a big fan of PS2 either, infact I am rooting for GC, but that doesn't mean just because you like one thing that you can't see other things from a different angle. Just look at PS2 from a different angle. Sure, you may think PS2 sucks but I bet most of you want to play a few of the games on it (even though you won't admit it here). Oh well.

Everyone wants to play a few games on it, that doesn't mean it's a poor console with some poor software..

Not to mention, many games people want to try are going to have ports for other platforms..

Asz

I havn't been following up on the console wars; so what games are going to be ported from the PS2 anyways?

MGS2, SH2, GT3, and more..

i think sony because there game are better than x-box like final fantasy ten and eleven cause along time ago saturn and playstation were head to head and when final fantasy 7 came out people started to buy it then when final fantasy 8 came out the sell started to go up then playstation was the best system around.
and when ffx come out it well have full polygon graphix and everything so i say x-box sucks ps2 rules

The Saturn is superior to the PSX, and has games of a caliber that the PSX has rarely (if ever) seen..

Betamax
June 2nd, 2001, 21:16
I heard from somwhere that the saturn failed 'cos it was a sod to program. I also heard the latter about the ps2.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

CDBuRnOuT
June 2nd, 2001, 21:41
That is true, although the PS2 isn't as bad as the Saturn, programming-wise, but it's not much better..

what do u mean ps2 isnt better than saturn, the graphix are better and the speed is better

Ryos
June 2nd, 2001, 22:34
Who cares if the graphics are better when the games themselves are as exciting as watching paint peel off the wall? It could be the PS2 will eventually get games as good as the Saturn did, but then again, it may not.

My complaint of PS2 is that for at least a year I heard all this stuff about how great the graphics will be and how great it'll be to have a DVD in a console, but now that I've seen about 10 or so games I haven't been impressed by the slightly better PSX graphics on PS2(no I'm not talking about playing PSX games on PS2) and the DVD player is a bit pixelated. So in consideration of how much one costs and what you get for your money, I say PS2 sucks. I have no problem with PS2 lovers, but I don't see things their way.

Asz
June 3rd, 2001, 05:08
I don't see how you can only see 10 games that have better graphics then the PSX on PS2. Considering PS2 can handle 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 more polygons then PSX, plus anti-aliasing,ect,ect. :p

I don't agree with the PSX>PS2 gfx thing, but graphics aren't everything...

However, I do agree that the PS2's DVD playback is utter ****e when compared to any set-top player.

I honestly don't know who is going to pull ahead in the whole console race, bUt I must admit I was VERY impressed with the quality of graphics and such when I played the x-box last month. But as CD said a game can +look amazing but suck ass in game play.

Have you thought about the development in those consoles?
I've heard that develope a game for ps2 is really really hard.
But think about Microsoft. They have a lot of experience in developement tools like Visual Studio and most important, DirectX.
Think about the number of developers that know about DirectX programming and if they make something like "DirectX for X-Box" they have many posibilities to win this war.
About graphics:
I've seen in many polls that PC grapics are better than console grapics and X-Box is based on the PC system, with a nVidia card (a reduced version of a Geforce3) so graphics will look better on that system.
Better graphics+easier development = more games. The more games the more posibilities to make money and win the war. It's easy.
By the way, sorry for my english.

June 3rd, 2001, 19:31
As far as ease of programming goes, from a developer friend who's dev'n for all three, the GC is easiest, Xbox second, PS2 last..

Asz
June 3rd, 2001, 20:33
But you all forget one thing. A lot of developers are saying that the PS2 has the most potential. And don't talk any smack like, "The PS2 doesn't have a lot of potential!" because unless you are a game developer that creates console games you can't talk. But you are right, the XBox should be the easiest to develop for. Sony only added in the DVD rom drive for 2 reasons, 1-Large Capacity of DVDs 2- To crank up the price about 100$. The only reason they added DVD playback was probably just because the option was avalible.

CDBuRnOuT
June 3rd, 2001, 23:31
No, the majority of developers are starting to say the GC has the more potential from a development standpoint, and even a developer that is an acquaintence(sp?) of mine concurs. Another developer I've spoken with hasn't start developing on the GC, but he favors the Xbox over PS2. The Xbox, to me, seems to have the least, because it's all stuff developers have worked with before, so it should be mastered much earlier, which could lead to amazing-looking games right off the bat, but we won't see as many jumps later on in the console's life (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

Sure, PS2 games will get better graphic-wise, as it is with all consoles, but as many have stated, who cares. The quality of games is poor at this point, and that's what counts.

BTW, Sony didn't stick a DVD-ROM in to jack up the price, they used it for capicity like you said, and playback is used as a selling point for the console. Heck, they lose more money because of it, since they have to pay a fee for each console shipped in the US with DVD playback capabilities. This is why the GC is not going to have DVD playback capabilities..

As for the remark about saying no one can counter 'A lot of devs saying the PS2 has the most potential', the same can be said about that remark. That's just heresay, and I don't see you as a Console developer ;) But, I'm not going to play that game, because that's just poor debating..

Asz

>The quality of games is poor at this point, and that's what counts.
-This is only what you think, others may disagree. (Like they also may with me)

>BTW, Sony didn't stick a DVD-ROM in to jack up the price
-What are you Sony? C'mon you know they did :p

>As for the remark about saying no one can counter 'A lot of devs saying the PS2 has the most potential', the same can be said about that remark.
-I am just telling you what I herd developers say, not what I think developers would say. And I was just saying that because I would figure that most people would say what they think because they just barge around and say 'The PS2 sucks!' ;)  :p

CDBuRnOuT
June 4th, 2001, 02:14
No, I'm not Sony, but did you even take a look at my reasoning? Sony doesn't make money of PS2 hardware units at this point, just like other console companies, they lose it. If they were to sell the PS2 above the cost it took to make it, it would cost even more than it is now. They make their money off the royalties and licensing fees from the software companies.

As for all the thinking crap, this is, and always has been an opinion-driven debate..

LoRd_ByRon
June 4th, 2001, 02:39
yes, ur right!! opinion driven thread!!

and the main question is what console ill prevail???

easy answer!!
the one with PIRATING!!!
yes, that's right!! why do u think PSX is still selling?? cos u can get all the games at a 1/10 their original price!!!

Asz
June 4th, 2001, 08:48
Yes, I realize that but I was just conveying information. I know that Sony is losing money from PS2. You are right Byron! I bet a lot of people bought a PSX because they herd you could get games for free.

CDBuRnOuT
June 4th, 2001, 20:02
Of course, piracy, marketing, and a large library of games (albeit 99% of them are crap) is what drove the PSX..

Asz
June 6th, 2001, 22:17
yes, maybe more like 68% or 75% but 99% would mean he only liked about 2-3 games, and if you love emulation of a system you only like 2-3 games for then somthing is wrong.

Raziel
June 6th, 2001, 23:16
Okay let's say something like 80%.
Games I like:
FF 7-8-9
LoM
Star Ocean 2
Resident Evil 1-2-3
Parasite Eve 1(I have the 2 but I don't like it)
Vandal Hearts
Suikoden
Die Hard Trilogy
Xenogears
Final Fantasy Tactics
Tekken 2-3
Street Fighter Zero 3
MGS
ISS Pro98-Evolution1-2
Soul Reaver
Silent Hill
Chrono Cross
Castlevania SOTN
RockmanX4
RRT4
WipeOut 2097&3
GT2
and THAT'S ALL!(well maybe a few games here and there but not much).

CDBuRnOuT
June 6th, 2001, 23:43
Considering the PSX has more than 5000 games worldwide, and 99% of 5000 is 4950..

Maybe I was being too lenient with 99% :)

June 7th, 2001, 02:43
I only got about 15 games or so that I really like and play on the psx......... On the other hand I got 50 games and more on the old Sega Saturn...... And they are all great games..... And talk about great import games....... The saturn ruled with its 2d dominance...... Now if only a really great Saturn emulator would arise..... Oh and about the console wars...... I can't say at this point until I play a few xbox and gamecube games...... The ps2 games out right now isn't that great..... Maybe MGS2 and FFX will liven things up for ps2... but right now...... There is no killer app for the ps2 out yet........ Watch dvd's on Ps2? I'll watch dvd's on my computer with my 19" monitor...... with 4 speaker surround sound...... :)

I think Nintedo is going to ***** slap (pardon my language) the hell out of the xbox and the ps2.. Nintendo has finally taken off the gloves and has many games in the making that are for mature audences... All thanks to one little game that opened the door.. Conkers bad fur day.... I love that game... After commin back from E3, i would plce my shiny new GBA on the table and bet that gamecube is gonna rock and/or roll...

I had a ps2 and was siverly disapointed... and the xbox is going to be coin toss... ever play a game made by microsoft??? ewww...

Actually I have played a game made by Microsoft. It was called Boing, it's for the X-Box. I was very impressed. Had good sound, graphics, quality, and playability, as well as content. If anyone is interested, the controllers are not as bad as some have said. I played a generic brand of the actual x-box controller and it was very similar to the LogiTech WingMan controller. I have small hands so it was a bit large for me but shouldn't be a problem for most people. I was impressed with the game I played and have seen photos of other games that look just as good. I must admit after the dissappointmant that was N64 I am leery of purchasing another Nintendo made product until it has been out for a while and I have a longer period of time to form my opinion.

June 14th, 2001, 21:38
heheh, yeah, i got some great kix out of the N64 and my friends. I took one look at the N64 and bought a psx. Too bad my friends didn't do the same, so 3-4 yrs later, i got the last laugh...and i'm still laughing. Loyalty just gets in the way. A gaming company needs to prove its worthiness with every product. Just because i owned a NES and a SupaNes didn't mean i was gonna rush out and buy the N64 when it was apparent to me that there was a better console on the market. Anyway, for all the xbox bashers, there's a really good article at ign if u haven't already seen it:
