FF8 freeze problem

Hey everyone, I am using epsxe 1.7 and "epsxe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.7.0" cdrom plugin. I am playing the game off my original PS1 FF8 disc. The problem is that in some of the long talking scenes, the disc spin speed will slowdown drastically and when it comes time to change scenes the game will freeze.

I was wondering if there are any programs out there to control the disc spin speed for a drive.

Or if anyone has any other suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
