Hi I've been getting black screens, and no sound, as well as the program freezing up in Vista. In XP I had no problems, but in Vista it's nothing but a Black Screen.

I've tried Pete's OpenGL2, and his P.E.Op.S plugin, and neither work. Which both worked in XP. I have DEP disabled and Zlib1.dll in the directory, and I'm still not getting anything.

Thanks for the assistance,
- James

System info, and epsxe config info?

Jworix
June 7th, 2009, 03:04
Oh Sorry,

Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
2GB Ram
Geforce 8600GT
Vista Ultimate X86

I've used both the basic "Nice" settings, and maximum everything, except shader settings, and neither work. I'll make note that the Maxed settings worked fine in XP.

I'm using the 1001 BIOS, and I have tried the 7502, no difference. and default sound and CD plugins for now. Also I've tried my original copy of FF7, the Greatest hits copy, and made an ISO of the original, and Parrapa the Rappa, and none of them work, and they all work in my PSone, and I know PR worked in XP.

do you run epsxe as an admin?

Jworix
June 7th, 2009, 03:32
Yes I run all apps as admin. I removed the UAC.

enable the logger (run>enable logs in the GUI) and see if it says anything interesting in the output window when you attempt to run a game.

AHA we're on to something.

*Error Can't open Sound Handler (try -no sound)

I disabled sound and now it gets to
*Direct input init ok.

Then just stops...

Squall-Leonhart

install the DirectX redists.

Jworix
June 7th, 2009, 16:15
Ok I did that, and now I get to
*SPU Core init ok.

and it hangs....

test the image or disk you are using in another emulator.

Jworix
June 8th, 2009, 00:37
Works fine on my XP partition, and in my PSX.

What is your sound driver, and try updating it.

jonc2006
June 9th, 2009, 04:13
try deleting the registry entries and re-install epsxe. can you tell us where you have had epsxe saved on your HD?

Jworix
June 9th, 2009, 11:30
Sound Drivers are the newest, and I just recently completely removed, and reinstalled Epsxe, or rather deleted and unzipped. It's on my D: Drive, or my backup partition. I have a second install on my XP part, or had since I removed it.

jonc2006
June 9th, 2009, 11:46
do you launch from a shortcut or from the executable?

Jworix
June 9th, 2009, 22:24
The executable itself.

jonc2006
June 9th, 2009, 23:34
have you tested other SPU plugins out yet?

Jworix
June 10th, 2009, 23:38
Yes I've tried all of pete's

jonc2006
June 10th, 2009, 23:51
what about the spu core?

Jworix
June 11th, 2009, 23:43
yup

jonc2006
June 11th, 2009, 23:57
have you tried setting it to winXP compatibility mode in the properties menu of a shortcut?

Jworix
June 12th, 2009, 22:33
I use the main .exe and yes I've tried XP compatability.

jonc2006
June 13th, 2009, 06:48
this is strange, epsxe works just fine for me on vista. are you able to get the BIOS to work or does that do nothing as well?

captain318
June 13th, 2009, 10:46
i had the same problem but it was a easy fix. Go to compatability mode on the .exe and only check "Disable Desktop Composition" that should get it goin for ya;)

Hi all, I've been having the same issues and am unable to start the emulator, just get a blank screen. I've tried disabling the desktop composition but still nothing. Any further advice would be much appreciated...
=)

jonc2006
June 13th, 2009, 19:23
are you saying you get a blank screen when you attempt to start a game or are you saying you get a blank screen when you attempt to lunch the emulator itself?

Numerian
June 13th, 2009, 19:57
when launching a game.

Jworix
June 13th, 2009, 20:06
When launching the BIOS I get the sound like when the PSX loads, but it only play the first 2 seconds over and over, and the blank screen when launching the game.

Numerian
June 13th, 2009, 20:08
when I load a CD or ISO...

And mine does exactly the same as yours, Jworix, when I run the BIOS.

We'll get this sorted one day, mate

Numerian
June 13th, 2009, 20:26
Right

I've got a CD to work, so maybe the ISO isn't working cos its crap? Or have I missed something and am doing it all wrong?

I've been following this thread for guidance and I’m still at a loss. I've configured the emulator as instructed by many sites, the built in wizard, as well as this forum. I'm running vista and have all the current service packs, video/audio drivers, DIRECX, and everything else I can think of.

Basically I’m having the same problem. I experience the screen going black and then the program stops working and my computer prompts me to close it. I experience this problem any time I try to run an ISO, a game from the CD Drive, and when I try to run the BIOS.

I enabled the logs but there doesn't seem to be any errors that I can see. When I try to load a game from the CD drive the logs are as such:

* Running EpSXe emulator version 1.7.0.
* Memory handlers init.
* ePSXe: PSX BIOS Loaded (bios\SCPH1001.BIN).
* Init cdrom ... ok
* Cdrom open... ok
* NTSC cdrom detected. (scus_941.63)
* Doing init gpu(0)...
* Direct input init ok.
* Doing spu init...
* Spu open...

And when I run the BIOS this is what the logs show:

* Running ePSXe emulator version 1.7.0
* Memory handlers init.
* ePSXe: PSX BIOS loaded (C:\Users\Keith\Desktop\PS\bios\SCPH1001.BIN).
* Init Core w2k CDrom ... (E) ok
* First/Last track: 1 1
* Track 1: (DATA) - Start 0: (00,02,00) - Length 70:37
* Doing init gpu(0)...
* Gpu open(0)...
* Direct input init ok.
* Doing spu init...
* Spu open...

Any suggestions?

Squall-Leonhart

In both cases, the GPU is not initializing. When it is a random digit string is shown after gpu open.

the fact is says (0) means it has not been opened.

this could be for a number of reasons.

You are not starting epsxe with Run As admin. - Epsxe requires this even with UAC disabled as it requires registry access. Only the disabled Windows vista Admin account overrides the usermode restrictions for admins.
Data Execution Prevention is enabled, so try disabling it, or adding epsxe to the dep allow list. .... there are enough guides on managing DEP now on google.. make use of it.
The graphic card is not configured correctly (ie... no drivers) or you may have Antialiasing turned on globally.

Turning of the DEP for ePSXE did the trick thank you.

Jworix
June 14th, 2009, 04:38
I have my Vista set to run everything as Admin that means all programs

DEP is turned off.

I have updated drivers for my Video Card and have no issues with any other games such as FEAR or Battlefield 2.

AA is set to program discretion mode.

No. disabling UAC does not run every application in elevated priviledges

UAC = / = Elevation

Jworix
June 15th, 2009, 01:27
I don't mean to be rude Squall, but you misunderstand. I disabled UAC AND have Vista set to run everything as Admin. IE My main account has admin level privileges. Which means I've taken ownership of all files under my main accounts security policies, and set it as an admin in the group policy settings.

I'm not exactly new at PCs my friend....and just for kicks I went ahead and ran as admin, and the result was the same. Even logged on as the admin and tried, with the same result.

So now that is settled can we move on to something else?

Thanks,
- James

No. thats not how it works with Vista.

The only account which doesn't get User level restrictions is completely disabled by default on Vista

How to access the true Administrator account in Windows Vista (http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9001970)

Anyway thats a moot point, since run as admin failed for you, so its some other part of the configuration.

Jworix
June 15th, 2009, 22:42
It may be a moot point, but I know how vista works, I've been working with Operating Systems for a long time, and I know all about how to access the "True" Admin account, and by taking ownership YOU DO infact make your account administative, but you have to give the account the privileges from the Admin account, which I have done.

Anyway I agree that it must be another facet of the program, and I hope I don't have to re-engineer the wheel to make it work.

HOW TO FIX
http://forums.ngemu.com/generic-epsxe-queries/22257-help-epsxe-black-screen-problems.html

I had the same problem tried everything
people don't seem to realise when the remove epsxe and the put it back even with new plug-ins the controller settings remain how you changed them

this means the epsxe is getting settings form some were Even after replace fresh aka the registry

remove both the registry edit using regedit manually as stated in this forum

http://forums.ngemu.com/generic-epsxe-queries/22257-help-epsxe-black-screen-problems.html

if that doesn't help urrr umm
sorry i guess

Ill will make a new post showing how to fix this coming bug
PS not responsible for any damage caused buy fiddling with reg edit

Jworix

well my specs are on my laptop
AMD Turlon x2 x64
Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2
Nvidia GeForce 8200M with 1407MB Memory
other features do need to worry about
so when I decided to get epsxe again in years :(
I got these plugins
Petes OpenGL2
Petes ASPI cd driver<-- I used for some games
SeguDI Joypad
PeopsDSound

fresh install no errors or problem well except for fast emulation than needed but fixed had to turn on the FPS limit
I think it maybe Vista Ultimate I wanted vista home premium so I made sure to get a system with it
run at least 3GB or more

Ok I reinstalled Vista, now 1.60 works perfectly, but 1.70 does the exact same thing it did before. I installed 1.70 first and then tried installing the older one, however I'd like to get the latest up and running my log did get further...
