Hey all,

Sorry for the probably ridiculously stupid question, but I'm a total noob when it comes to emulating. I just downloaded the beta of VBA-M for the Mac OSX, and was just curious to know if the save states for the old, official version of VBA (version 1.7.4) work with VBA-M roms. I know that a lot of emulators use different save formats, but seeing as VBA-M is an "expansion" has gotten me confused.

(To be specific, I'm wanting to transfer an old Pokemon Leaf Green VGA state to VGA-M, but merely copying it over doesn't seem to work. I know Leaf Green save states are a ***** to even get to work anyway, so I'm also wondering if its a problem with the game itself.)

If any help at all can be given, I'd appreciate it very much. :)

IIRC, the save format did change in VBA-M, due to audio core modifications and upgrades.

So does that mean all hope is lost for trying to get the previous save state in VGA-M, or could I just rename the extension?

Again, I don't know much about roms, but any info is appreciated.

GBA states from 1.7.2 will work in VBA-M
GBC/GB states will not. though we did get a few games to load fine at times. the change was necessary to solve some very noticed audio issues.

Is there any difference between a 1.7.2 save and 1.7.4 save, then?

Whenever I try replacing or dropping a save from VBA 1.7.4 into VBA-M's save folder, it either rewrites it or doesn't load it. I'm guessing its a no-go?

On VBA: Load up your game
Load your state
Save the game normally (Press start and select save)
Select the file menu > export > battery file > save the file somewhere

On VBA-M: Load up your game
Select the file menu > import > battery file > the file you saved
Reset the game ( ctrl+R )
Choose continue from the games menu
????
Profit!!!
