A thin layer of ice is preferred over a 10cm thick layer of sludge freezing to ice.
It takes ages to go away.

You guys need more snow.
Here in Norway, it can easily fall 4 inches of snow in 1 night, and life goes on like normal. Trucks are out clearing the roads during the night and morning, schools aren't shut down, stores are still open...

That's because being "awesome" is not being "normal".
"Awesome" people don't get put in charge because they're not "normal".
"Awesome" people are put behind the people in charge to come up with the ideas...
It's only "stupider" people that actually are put in charge.

Fortunately, I live in a marine climate, where snow is somewhat rare. We did get some a few weeks ago, but it's gone now. It rarely gets cold enough here to snow, but the winters are generally around 40 degrees Fahrenheit, just barely enough to support palm trees without them dying of the cold. Last year, it only snowed one night and lightly covered the ground. By morning, it was gone.
I never want to live in a humid continental climate again....

Unless you don't want to bother the entire house with sounds of gunfire and reving engines.
There are a few scenarios where this applies:
You got the computer in the living room.
The walls are paper thin.
You got the volume waaaaay too loud.
If not, then there's no reason whatsoever that they would actually be bothered with the sounds.

In my case the PC acts like the main TV, since I don't actually got a TV :p
If I ever were to live with someone else, I'd never have the PC in the living room, purely because of this reason.
Unless they wanna sleep and your system is close by.
Unless you got totally opposite days with work and free time, this shouldn't be an issue.
Back when I was living at home, we had a general rule that after 11 there wasn't supposed to be any loud noises.
Also, the "old ones" took a 60-90 minute nap in the afternoon, at around 4pm. My room (and also, my pc) was directly above where they slept, but I found a very easy solution to that.
Since they didn't sleep very light (as in, woke to every little sound), I just turned off the bass, and turned the master volume down.
Since I don't have ****ty hearing, I could easily hear whatever came out of those speakers :-)

That is random. But hey, since they accept AIR apps, I guess I can write up something really quick. :p A tic tac toe game seems to be good enough!
On a side note, the "administration" fee seems to be waived... It usually costs $200... Hmm... I'm in anyhow. Hopefully they don't decide to "charge" me for no reason at all. Edit: confirmed that it's free to register and submit for this time.
On another side note, I guess I could just submit my emulators... See what happens. :p
Edit: Ahem... only Adobe AIR version of the SDK and simulator is available. Handing over their market on a silver platter, I see...? Hopefully the thing has good AIR implementation. I can be a bit... crazy when it comes to AIR.

Blast, been anxiously waiting for the grand final of bball for the past week, only to find on game day I have a bloated gut, about 10,000 degrees inside the stadium with this thick humidity, and participated in one of the most boring games of basketball I have played in years.
We lost by 6 points, not much considering half their team score was made from the free throw line, we must have averaged a foul once every minute and a half. Very poor.

I like the language, the country, the people, etc. I always said I'd been born in a wrong country ;) The language is quite difficult, but I have some basics in German which makes learning Dutch a lot easier. The company I work at really loves sending its employees to bootcamps. I just came home from one yesterday, and my body is still screaming with pain. It was quite different (and a lot of fun too) from other training I received in the past. We ate under the rain (no roof), without washing our hands (of which I'm surprised I got no diarrhea), at random times there were gun fire from an M16, and we had to run like hell up the hills and hide behind a tree. That was also the first time I experienced a hit by a paint ball bullet on my cheek. Quite painful.

Hahah, some people say 'why learn Dutch when you speak English and everyone speaks English there?'. Well, because I want to! And like I said I've always regretted I wasn't born in Netherlands :> I only speak two languages fluently plus the basics of German and Japanese and I feel it's too little nowadays.
As for visiting... Long, long time ago I had a girlfriend and she studied Dutch. She visited Netherlands from time to time and I was there a couple of times too myself, mainly in Leiden. Last time I heard from her she was in Alkmaar. And my fondness of Netherlands started with the national football team in 1988 (and what a team it was!), and when I met her I got interested in the country itself. We're no longer together, but the fondness (for Netherlands - in case my wife reads it :p) remains.
But I take it as invitation Cid, I've longed to visit for a couple of years now, although there's always some obstacle (if I have the money I have no time, and vice versa). Are you from Amsterdam maybe? I have a reason to visit there, 'cause I am a big fan of Ajax (even though they play like they play now), sorry if you support Feyenoord or PSV :P But that doesn't matter, does it? I know better not to show up wearing Ajax jersey in Rotterdam or Eindhoven

I was intrigued by this positive correlation (for men): "Ever threatened with a gun: .20". While for women there's "Ever been punched: .20" and "Homossexuality not wrong: .20". And "Patriotism" rates -.18 for women.

Depends on whether they put effort into it or not. If the person is actually trying to do their best to speak the language I have no problems it, if they butcher it cuz they couldn't be bothered I can't stand it. Politicians do that a lot over here, butcher english so badly that they just about make up new words.
For instance they don't even try with "people", they pronounce it "pepul" and instead of "work" they say "wark" and all manner of other bull

Well, he never told me to do it. I did it for him. We watched a late movie and he wasn't feeling too good. So as he was taking his shower, I tidied up his room and then made his bed for him so he could come out and snuggle up in his nice clean sheets. I know that always helps me feel better and he seems to like it.
He never tells me to do such things. I do it for him to show him I love him and to show that I care for him as well. I just want to be nice and give him the best I can. I love him so much.
So I was just *****ing before on my last post. Lol. I just didn't predict that I would get sick too. *sigh* I should have known better and I didn't. But at least I hope I made him happy and made him feel a bit more comfortable while I was there with him.

Googletranslate of a newspaper article:
Secondary Students learn better by unskilled teachers
Although unskilled teachers do not get permanent employment in schools, a new study shows that students do better in school if the teacher does not have an approved teacher education.
In a survey conducted by the Norwegian Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education, states that an approved teacher education has a positive effect on student achievement in fifth grade, but a negative effect on student achievement in the 10th class at school, writes Dagsavisen.
The report states that one of the reasons may be that "the approved teacher education does not represent a mark of quality compared to other programs, or lack of education."
- It may well be that the teacher we have, works better in primary than in secondary schools, says sociology professor Jens B. Grøgaard Vestfold University College. He is one of the researchers behind the report.
Among unskilled teachers have everything from those who have just finished high school, people with university education.
Grøgaard does not preclude an unskilled teacher with solid expertise could be better than one with a certified teacher, but with far less professional ballast.
- We can not make any firm conclusions, it needs more research, he says.
The survey covers around 3,000 primary schools and 1,000 secondary schools.
Why am I not surprised?

On my end i got in luck at the local super market today i found a Verbatim Rapier V1 gaming mouse dirt cheap (13$) the normal price for it being here at least 42$, this is the third time i struck lucky their (last time was with an a4tech) needless to say i bought it (the mouse being brand new and comes with a two year warranty).
The mouse out of the box has 5 on the fly dpi presets from 800 to 3200 (using the software you can define your own up to 7 DPI presets from 400 to 3200), comes with weight adjustment for your preferred set up (5 x removable 4.5 gram weights). And software that lets you bind up to 3 macro's to your mouse and of course bind buttons from keyboard.
I'm very please with it though it is gonna take a while to get used to it .

Guys, I'm so freakin' happy right now!!!
I went to see my specialist today. I had to go over the results of my endoscopy and colonoscopy that I had a few weeks ago. And guess what?
They confirmed that I did have Crohn's disease!
Yeah, I'm still sick and it really sucks, but I'm so happy that they now have proof and we can totally pinpoint everything!
This means I don't have to go through experimental treatments anymore where they don't know if something is going to work, have dangerous side effects, and make me wait months before we can go onto the next treatment.
They are starting me on the level 1 medical treatment. I pray this works out. Doctor says that I should know in at most 6 weeks. If that doesn't work, they we will have to go to level 2 treatment, which with each higher level there is more intense treatment.
But I have a renewed hope everyone.
I'm so happy.

I know a story like this about not knowing you're pregnant. It was in the news, about a junior high student who gave labor in the bathroom. She was uneducated, though, and when she was about to deliver the baby, she thought she was going to defecate. She stated that she didn't realize that she was carrying a child in her. She was raped by her father.

The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced that Brazil will take on Holland on 4th June next year. This will be the first meeting between the two since the Europeans knocked Brazil out of the quarter-finals of the World Cup earlier this year.
The venue has yet to be decided but the cities of São Paulo or Porto Alegre are likely to stage the game.

Isn't that general concept the same for many sports? You get the ball, pass it to someone else usually, and try to get the ball into the goal.
Basketball: Get the ball, pass it to team mate, who tries to make it into the hoop. (goal).
American Football: QB gets the ball, hands it or passes it to another player, who tries to make his way to the endzone. (goal.)
Hockey: Really just a ice-based variation of football/soccer with sticks.
etc..
DragonMyth

Well that is a very valid point, but there is another rule in Football. If you make a touchdown there is a chance you can kick the football through the gate and if it passes you'll be awarded 3 extra points which then the other team gets a chance to make a touchdown. Basketball is different in that you have to also be able to dribble the ball as well as pass. They are two popular sports in the USA, which everyone probably knows.

From the first link:
Norse mythology gets a multi-cultural remake in the upcoming movie titled “Thor,” by Marvel studios. It’s not enough that Marvel attacks conservative values and promotes the left-wing, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin.
From the second:
I thought this was a joke, Kenneth Branagh making a movie with a black playing the part of Heimdall. WTF!!! Even if it's the best acted movie in history, I would not see it.
(...)
Not only that, Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) is a Jew.

Trying because it has been like 20 minutes loading the game, I don't know if it's installing it right now.

They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed in the footsteps of good men like my father or President Truman. Decent men who believed in a day's work for a day's pay. Instead they followed the droppings of lechers and communists and didn't realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don't tell me they didn't have a choice. Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody Hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers... and all of a sudden nobody can think of anything to say.

For some people it may take a long time to get awarded, so don't worry yet. Of course, most of the members will never get awarded, but just focus on something... you can do it if you trust yourself in the future.

Hi all, back again from the Switzerland trip I had planned with a friend of mine. The results will be available on DVD soon :p
We went for a concert of Freedom Call, who were doing a DVD show in Pratteln, next to Basel. The show was awesome, and being invited backstage for even more beer was priceless. Apparently my German becomes more fluent with every beer downed

Heineken isn't that bad... sure it tastes awful, but the mini-kegs are neat for parties.

December 31st, 2010, 17:45
Why get mini kegs of Heineken when you can get them of other brands? Got a tad hung over from Heineken at the concert a night ago, they came in half liters which was nice though. The alternative was a local Swiss beer I think, which was quite tasteless. When I prefer Heineken over it, it says a lot about the other beer. The best thing about Heineken is its marketing ;)
Guinness was a good remedy against the hangover btw, but I only started to appreciate it recently, as it has a quite distinctive taste.

An awesome read.
WARNING!
Not for the faint-hearted, it's quite graphic.
Might lead you to think "Why the **** did I just read that?" afterwards.
On a side note:
Today at work, an old lady in a wheelchair managed to rip open a piece of her skin on the top of her hand, making the bones visible.
Me and my boss helper her put a bandage on, till she got to see a nurse back at her home, she actually asked me if I could stand to look at blood.
I didn't even flinch. Gotta thank /b/ for that I suppose.

RT:
Man I don't know how my friend does it, he has a wife and a kid yet he cheats on his wife with his cousin's wife sister and any women that could fall for him. And the thing is he gets a lot of action and the women agreed even though they knew he's married.
Even his wife knows he's no good but I'm not sure to which extent she does.
Although she shouldn't act surprised with him, women get the hints, some just don't want to argue or are insecure.
And no he doesn't have money or have the air that he can provide.
That really is hilarious for me.

I need a bluetooth mouse and kb combo, with this wireless I have to put the mouse right in front of the receiver or it will not work.
Everything's better with Bluetooth.
