Yeah, and most important, DRM free.

I'll probably buy the game down the line after I beat the Witcher.

That's what I did, finished the first one a week ago (after about a year trying?) and going into the second with transferred save. Now don't anyone tell me retail DVD < digital distribution because I will laugh hard into their faces! ;)

Oh yes, DRM free as of version 1.1 but it downloads the patch automatically so basically all you need is serial no. Current version is 1.2.

Sup Witcher 2 buddy http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-hfive.gif.

I just got this in the mail. I forgot when I ordered it, but pretty good for $36. I like the way the game is presented in the big box with all the little bits and pieces included. The manual is absolutely fabulous and wonderfully old school.

Wow! I wish gaming companies would do that more often, cloth maps, documentation, and a "cute" coin. I miss that in games.

They get so cheap now and still try to charge $60.

Picked this up today, what's funny is that all this was $1 cheaper when pre-ordered than buying the standard version of the game from the same store.

The ocarina has a lovely sturdy feel to it, and looks a lot better than the version the Greeks got. The game box also has lovely gold shiny coverings reminiscent of the golden box of the N64 version. Very lovely all together, although the main box is lacklustre cardboard, I was hoping for something a little more sturdy. No matter, I really dig the special edition.

Now all I need is a 3DS, but I'm in no hurry, I'm waiting for them to do some revisions to fix some of the issues with the technology (ghosting and such) and possibly an XL version.

I HAVE THE OCARINA OF MOTHER****ING TIME!

It was less than half price at Gamestop, so I thought "what the hell".

Damnit, no SF4-AE (delayed till 22nd and possibly beyond) and my usual cheaper game store has been slightly charred and is closed who knows till when.

I did however manage to find some of the games just as cheap elsewhere as well as some other options.

Mini-Ninjas for ~$8 (Demo was fun so I figured if I could find it for below ~$20 I'd definitely get it)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/th_15072011394n.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/?action=view&current=15072011394n.jpg)

Spiderman - Shattered Dimensions (this was my main target so I'm glad I found it. Finally managed to get a Spiderman game, they always either have terrible reps or ar hard to find at least hard to find cheap) ~$15
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/th_15072011398n.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/?action=view&current=15072011398n.jpg)

007 - Blood Stone (~$15, probably bad that this game is so cheap already but I figured it could still be fun and it's basically my what the hell might as well purchase on this trip)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/th_15072011400n.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/?action=view&current=15072011400n.jpg)

King's Bounty - Armoured Princess GOTY edition ~$20 (I like -The Legend well enough so I figured this one would be fun too...though I am kinda still stuck in the first game)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/th_15072011402n.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/?action=view&current=15072011402n.jpg)

(I appologize for the big pics, I was trying to preserve the text in a readable state incase any of you wanted to take a look at what it said and this is the smallest I could get them whilst doing so)

Sorry to hear about the arcade and store, as well as it delaying you getting SF4AE. I still need to play Street Fighter IV, as I haven't played my copy much. I am getting into Tatsunoko vs Capcom on my Wii at the moment, so it will wait.

I couldn't get Mini Ninjas to use my "Gamestop" 360 controller, so I didn't buy it off Steam when it was on sale.

I still have to play the King's Bounty games, I have all of them, but the first one tends to overheat my PC, so I have to get it fixed before I can play it. I liked what I played of it. I hear Armored Princess is a "*****" literally regarding difficulty.

SCHUMI_4EVER
July 15th, 2011, 16:54
I figure X360CE should be able to help with any controller issues in Mini Ninjas but I played the demo with plain keyboard and I didn't find it too bad.

The main problem I have with King's Bounty is that the good troops are so limited. I can win all my battles and still end up screwed because of this. Especially mid-game and beyond because no matter what the enemy will kill a whole bunch of your troops even fighting weak junk it's just the way it works and then for instance I won't be able to find another Knight anywhere and that unit will just continue getting weaker and weaker until I have to replace it with an abundant but totally inferior unit. That's kinda what happened to me in the first. After fighting the Kraken all my good units are too weak to move on and I don't feel like playing with the weak trash. My royal snakes are toast, my alchemists are greatly weakend, my knights are gone and my bears are only just hanging on and my archmages are doing just about as well as the alchemists. I can still win every fight but pretty soon I won't have any troops and even the biggest wimps generally take huge chunks out of what I have.
The crazy thing is people do fast 0 casualty runs on this game on the hardest difficulty and I'm hemmoraging troops on easy whilst cheating and it's not as if I'm playing without strategy.

Exodus
July 17th, 2011, 19:54
I can still win every fight but pretty soon I won't have any troops and even the biggest wimps generally take huge chunks out of what I have.

Yup. It's why I don't even bother playing Heroes of M&M, or the Disciples series. While the games are kind of fun, they're more frustrating than fun.

SCHUMI_4EVER
July 17th, 2011, 20:50
I wish the Necromancy skill did a little more, if I'm lucky I get 1 or 2 units back out of 30 killed. And I can't delay a little more and use my in-battle revive skill since the counter hits of all my units are too strong and during the hit that forces the counter hit I lose even more units.
What I generally tend to do is if I have them available I use area spells immediately or summon a phoenix or copy of my troops to serve as punching bag to knock the enemy's strength down or distract them so hopefully they will kill less units but this makes the game pathetically easy AND doesn't help fix the problem since they still manage to reduce my units little by little.
As far as I know Disciples plays more like a traditional RTS and ever HoMM is better at replenshing troops than King's Bounty.

Also it seems Mini Ninjas will require registry tweak (renaming of my Rumblepad 2 to 360 controller in the registry) to work with my controller, that is if I can't get Xpadder to work satisfactorily.

Haven't tried the others yet as I don't have the HDD space for them at the moment.

Paratech
July 17th, 2011, 22:16
Which is why I didn't buy Mini Ninjas, it's anal retentive about needing a MICROSOFT 360 controller. I wonder how much Microsoft paid them to do that.

SCHUMI_4EVER
July 17th, 2011, 22:19
Anyways the registry tweak works perfectly and then I exported the entry before and after the tweak for easy toggling and it works great.
I chose messing with the registry over trying with Xpadder since the registry tweak makes the game button prompts show up as 360 buttons which makes them easier to follow.

It's not the first game and definitely not the last to suffer from this by the way. Others include Batman AA, Blur and Sonic and Sega Allstars Racing that I've come across and I'm sure there are more (though I rarely even bother checking these days anymore, I just usually immediately try to use X360CE)

Which is why I didn't buy Mini Ninjas, it's anal retentive about needing a MICROSOFT 360 controller. I wonder how much Microsoft paid them to do that. It's a result of Games for Windows Certification.

Every game with the Games for Windows label at the top must include/feature the following

Have an "Easy Install" option that installs the title on a PC in the fewest possible steps and mouse clicks.

Be compatible with the Games Explorer feature of Windows Vista and 7

Install and run properly on 64bit versions of Windows Vista and 7 and be compatible with 64-bit processors (the game can still be 32-bit)

Support various resolutions and aspect ratios such as 4:3 ratio (800 x 600, 1024 x 768), 16:9 ratios (1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080), and 16:10 ratios (1280 x 800, 1440 x 900, 1680 x 1050, 1920 x 1200)

Support the parental control and family settings featured in Windows Vista and 7

Ability to launch from Windows Media Center

Support the Xbox 360 Controller

SCHUMI_4EVER
July 18th, 2011, 00:19
Supporting the 360 Controller doesn't mean it's gotta be exsclusive, look at Assassin's Creed. Thus far it's had pretty decent gamepad support, no configurability but it supports most well-known controllers.

Basically they just need to stop the XInput exclusivity and add DInput as well or they're just lazy useless devs.

Paratech

My point was Mini Ninjas wants the "official" 360 controller or else, and I doubt its the only game that pulls that crap.

Wow, talk about Nostalgia! Seeing NES games and on an old and small CRT brought me back to my earlier days when I was like thirteen and living alone with my father. That's what I had in my room, only it wasn't that odd type of NES. That looks like some aftermarket version from after the patent ran out?

Princess Garnet

My point was Mini Ninjas wants the "official" 360 controller or else, and I doubt its the only game that pulls that crap.By far, it's not, but it's not the Xbox 360 controller itself it wants. What it wants is the Xinput method it uses, which very few other pads do (most others use the older Direct Input method). The new Logitech F Series are, so far as I know, the only others that do?

They just give alot of games official support for that pad because it's what they use for testing and because I think Games for Windows Live requires some sort of "hey, push our gamepad and use our button icons so they think it's exclusively needed and we make sales off of selling them to PC gamers who don't know any better" scheme, and it really works.

Paratech
July 21st, 2011, 01:08
My Gamestop 360 pad wouldn't work with mini ninjas unless I hacked the registry.

That game doesn't like 3rd party 360 controllers.

Princess Garnet
July 21st, 2011, 01:11
Oh, well then I don't know. I'd think it was an X Input game if that were the case. Drivers? That might be a game specific case where the developers themselves also locked out and/or omitted anything but the exact official one? I don't know.

SCHUMI_4EVER

Mini Ninjas is an XInput game correct, however it also requires the controller to be named "XBOX 360 Controller for Windows" in the registry or it won't recognize it. Whilst I don't have an F-series pad to check with I'm 99.9% certain that they also wouldn't work (otherwise plain X360CE should be able to do the job). So yes, it's basically a dev lockout.

Lovely photos Paratech, indeed a blast from the past :D

Got some new games to share, I know it's been a while, so I hope you'll let me back into this thread ;)

Went to a German Saturn today in order to get the new Earth Defense Force. It wasn't in yet, but my eye caught something else that I really couldn't leave there. I don't mind the language barrier at all, in fact it shouldn't be a barrier anymore at all.

In addition, I had to get Vanquish, saw it for a nice price. This one was ordered at Zavvi though, so it's in English. So now I'm back at 50% of my PS3 games being by SEGA :D

Cid Highwind

Vanquish is quite the rush indeed, but it's not a run of the mill shooter. Play it as such and you won't have much fun really. I knew this so I'm just going out all guns blazing, and it's a great game. Sliding up an enemy, kicking it in the face only to blast its friend with a shotgun at point blank feels great. The mechanics seem to work well but it certainly isn't easy.

Yeah. Well, what happens is that I'll decide to buy a series after a random amount of time. I decided to pick up all of Assassin's Creed and Dungeon Siege (minus the newest titles). I think it'll only be newer games from now on.

Noja87

Is hard in the beginning. You can get killed with 1-3 shots because of your crappy starting gear. Quest are all go here and talk to this npc in the beginning and if you dont install the patches the game is buggy as hell to the point of being unplayable. Its is a slow and not so special start but as you progress you start going to underground labs, start exploring for relics, encounter new monster and anomalies and then the whole thing kicks in and is awesome.

There are lot of crucial mods too since the game literally came out in a unfinished state so before you start playing you really need to research and set everything up.

Way too tired to care about dealing with the flash, but I found these for pretty darn cheap. I' loved the Earth Defence Force game when I had the chance to play it but could never find a copy of it in store, as fortune would have it there was one copy left in Eastgardens and I couldn't resist. Getting Kingdom Under Fire was just gravy.

One day I will find a copy of Onechanbara for Xbox and my silly low budget game collection will look even more impressive.

you must turn the flash of when taking pictures at close range

Yeloazndevil
August 9th, 2011, 17:46
yea but some cameras suck with flash off if you have unsteady hands, of you could just turn on the marco setting for extra close up detail also to prevent any blurring with flash off.

Cid Highwind
August 9th, 2011, 21:13
Actually if you get the angle right, you can use the flash :)

Kudos on getting EDF 2017 Snicko! It's definitely the better game imo. IA only rocks when playing it together with other people.

Also, it might not even be flash. In my pics, for example, it was actually the ceiling light that caused problems.

Is it really necessarily to list those two separately?

Sexual Themes may not necessarily imply partial nudity, but partial nudity almost certainly implies sexual themes...

Not really say you have a scene where the character takes a bath or you walk in up on a half naked character or some similar situation, unless done in a sensual way there's nothing Sexual about it, i understand why does two come separately.

It's here :D

I have played Valkyria Chronicles for about 12 hours last year if I am to believe the savedata, but I recall it to be longer, perhaps it didn't count retries. In any case, the game blew me away when it comes to art direction and it's the most refreshing use of what the current generation of consoles has to offer. I am still deeply saddened that this game has seen no sequel on the PS3 yet using the same canvas engine.

So well, I always wanted to pick up this game again, and I thought getting the art book would be a great motivation to do so. Here's some photos of it added as attachments. I took some photos, hoping to give you a proper impression of all the goodness that is stuff in this 400 pages thick book.

It truly has everything a fan could desire, and more. It includes all sorts of developer comments, a full walkthrough of the story, character descriptions complete with sketches and rejected design ideas. There's interviews too and even what seems like description of all the songs in the game. In fact it even goes as deep as explaining the shaders used and the effects it had on the character designs (seen in a batch of photos of Alicia). I got it for €35 at Amazon, and it is most definitely worth its price. 400 pages guys.... oO

About as slowly as it does system updates and game updates. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only aspects that consoles have taken from PC gaming are the negative ones: Long installations, bug fixes, crashing hardware, bad framerates.

This came in the mail on Friday, the game is awesome, I haven't finished it but it is quite long, loving it so far and the Limited Edition is pretty okay. The dvd case is like the discs they use in the game, the flag is nice, the medal that you see in the window is huge and heavy, really nice addition, the little photos of Adam are complete with messages to his son and wife, a letter, award, but what tickled me the most was the printing of the one of the drawings of the Hammer of Dawn satellite weapon. The effect is really close to what old ammonia printers do to paper drawings, really nice little touch.

why even bother making switches? you don't like keeping 2 consoles? don't want to make decisions on what games to buy for both consoles? got sick of playing FPS on 360 and want to play them on pc instead?

When did you make the switch from your first PS3 to a 360?

When I was leaving UK for Ireland, so about 3.5 years ago. That was the launch PS3, I paid €630 for it :>

why even bother making switches? you don't like keeping 2 consoles? don't want to make decisions on what games to buy for both consoles? got sick of playing FPS on 360 and want to play them on pc instead?

Didn't really play FPS games too much on 360, I think only Halo 3 and that was it. I find playing those on PC much better experience. Hmm, keep 2 consoles? Nah, it's confusing as it is with a console and a PC and there's too much money going into gaming as well. Having finished RE4 I didn't even play that much on 360 anymore, despite Gears 3 and Forza 4 being out. The decision to swap consoles came spontaneously when my was saw an ad in the newspaper somebody close by wanted to change PS3 for 360 so I contacted them, drove there and here I am with PS3.

SCHUMI_4EVER
October 17th, 2011, 13:47
With a decent PC I'd go for the PS3 as well, it gets far more games you'll never see on PC than the 360 does.

Hyuga
October 17th, 2011, 16:19
I got 360 mainly for Gears of War but now that I played GoW 1 and 2 to death and 3 didn't impress me that much I could get rid of 360 and swap it for PS3 which has got more games that I know I will enjoy as much as Gears. I can still play Gears 1 on PC on condition I am able to get it to run :> Can't say the same about Uncharted, God of War 3 or MGS4... My PC can run any current game quite well, including RAGE so I'm in quite a comfortable situation now :)

SCHUMI_4EVER

Since you're only playing in upscaled 720P. The game is bad console port.

this is true, and it's why the PS3 still remains on my radar, though admittedly it has been for a very long time now and I still didn't get one. ;)

My reasons for not (yet) getting one are the fact that most games (but not all) are on either 360 or PC as well (though there are rarely games that are on PS3 and PC but not on 360 (I can think of two that I have, both indie titles) , the pricetag of the PS3 (but this has gotten a lot better) and well... both a PC and 2 current-gen consoles does seem a bit overkill to me... =P (mind, I do not plan on getting rid of the 360 at all, despite this year being far less interesting than the previous two).

SCHUMI_4EVER

I like SHIFT a lot providing whatever system I'm playing on has a wheel attached to it which disqualifies a PSP. But I surrender if it was that or Undercover you made the only choice a sane person can make, even if the game is unplayable without a wheel.

Dunno how SHIFT2 is. I've yet to get it. I tend to not like Circuit racers as much since with all that livery and all the decals and touring car style bodykits the dream machines lose their identity. I can basically only tolerate one DTM style racer every few years and the original already sorted me till another 3 years down the line when there's probably something far more interesting than SHIFT2 out.

Of course, you prefer paintball over plastic soldiers? ;) But on serious note it depends on the year, PES's last year edition was quite disappointing. This year seems much better and fluid, FIFA on the other hand with its new impact engine fails in my eyes, feels much more artificial than last year's edition which I enjoyed quite a bit. Good there always are demos of those two to check out and decide.

At least this year's FIFA PC is the same as consoles.

its exactly how you remember it with a very nice coat of paint, remastered music is fully orchestrated, and runs at a solid frame rate. You can switch between the old graphics and new graphics with the back button. This game really stood the test of time its the only game in the Halo series I really liked. I don't know if this is for all versions, but the North American version comes with Master Chief suit Avatar Item, and some dlc for in game that makes grunts blow up like a plasma grenade when killed, also has a token for the anniversary map packs for use in Halo Reach. Sad thing is you still need to have Halo Reach to play the multiplayer, the Anniversary doesn't have the full Reach multiplayer.

If you do buy it we should do some co-op.

Warning: Huge Haul incoming

So I went to go and pick up L.A. Noir and SSF4-AE and TDU2 which had dropped in price and came across other games which had suddenly reappeared like The Witcher or had dropped sufficiently in price.

So first up the main event (along with Mafia 2 that was a buy now or never get it purchase)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/C360_2011-11-2414-37-27nn.jpg

Then SSF4-AE the other game I really wanted and Farewell to Dragons which I don't know at all but it was cheap and an RPG which usually is enough to get me to buy it unless I'm put off by something (like I am with Sacred2) and it got me a free bag for the rest of of my haul.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/C360_2011-11-2414-39-07nnn.jpg

Then TDU2, there was no way I was gonna let this one slip through my hands after spending 5 years hunting the first one down regardless of how much baddness there is plus it was cheap now. And Split/Second had also dropped heavily in price and was still in the original box so I also snagged that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/C360_2011-11-2414-40-16nnn.jpg

GTA4 had also dropped in price and I reckoned it made sense to get Episodes from Liberty City whilst I'm at it which had experienced the same price drop.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/C360_2011-11-2414-36-01nn.jpg

And then I was overjoyed to see The Witcher return to stores. Been wanting it for ages. And I figured I might try HoMM 1-5 first before I potentially waste money trying to get HoMM6 later before it slips through my hands.

Ah, so you decided to give Mafia II a try? Let me know what you end up thinking of it (and perhaps of L.A. Noire, both overall and compared to it to give me a point of reference of something I've tried). It was a bit heavy of some type of content I didn't care for, but that setting/mood/feel/city/detail/story... pretty good stuff. It has the low texture and odd rendering/aliasing affairs of many console centric games, but that aside, it was still rather good looking, if nothing too special. I played with PhysX off, by the way (most of my time was done on my GeForce 8800 GT though so who knows now and if it'll work for you; I just know it does some of the PhysX on the CPU unless you have a dedicated PhysX card). Now if only I had the HDD space for them all XD.I take it it'd be a bad time to mention the current state of HDD prices?
