We should pick a date for a day of gaming :)
What is it that makes the special edition special? I only see a regular dvd box + disc?
Congrats on GT5 Spy and @Ruan!
as schumi says, just a dlc code that unlocks some stuff... not really worthy of the title "limited edition" ...but it's all good, I got it for 5 euros less than the regular version (there's this gamestore I know and the owner managed to stock up exclusively on limited editions).
oh, and let's pick a date.... my place? :)

You needed a DLC code? no DLC code for me. It's instant in my case, but yeah I also got it a little cheaper...and I just feel happy about it for some reason.

lol, a limited edition offering DLC as a bonus? The disc with the base game on it is more limited as it has to be printed, the irony.
But sure, will be looking forward to it. Winter season coming up again, I'm interested to see what will be messing up the plans this time :p

Got them mainly for the Splitscreen action....and I'm not happy...360 controller lock-in...and not only that I need 2 of the darned things (and they have to be wired!)? WTF!!!???
....I'm honestly surprised that Logitech, Saitek and Thrustmaster haven't joined to together to sue the pants off of M$...I mean MS has complete bleeding monopoly on game control on PC these days. Next thing you know because with keyboard and mouse you might be using Logitech or anything not M$ they'll completely restrict you to the 360 pad...
And yeah that rant applies to BOTH games...I feel like shoving 360 pads up where the sun don't shine on all the members of the respective dev teams and then stoning them to death with a truckload of further 360 pads....
Thankfully there's Virus' x360ce vibmod so I haven't totally wasted my money...but I'm still restricted to set in stone controls in Sonic. I'm never going to buy a Sega racer every again, they haven't got a clue when it comes to controls. At least in Blur I can choose from slightly different control layouts (for player one, can't do jack for player two)...but it's still pretty awful.
Looks like in future before I get games I'll have to check on the this absolute bullcrap 360 Controller lock-in...if TDU2 is like that someone is going to die...I don't know who yet but someone will pay...

wireless 360 controllers should work as well... it's true though, I already had a 360 controller for pc before I got a 360 because of the lazy devs/games for windows thing. You pretty much can't get around that anymore, sadly. It's like a monopoly, indeed...
Similary, on 360 your only racing wheel options are an MS wheel, which is just average, a very expensive Fanatec Porsche one, or crappy MadCatz ones.... MS has a very strict policy on third-party controllers (or are just asking too much?) so Thrustmaster and Logitech wheels don't work on 360 :/
SCHUMI_4EVER
December 15th, 2010, 05:11
The problem with just one wireless controller would be that you can't do the port trick with it that you can with the wired controllers so it will always be seen as the controller in port 1 which for some asinine reason automatically belongs to player 1 (in other words despite two different control means (keyboard and controller) they're both locked to Player 1...Player 2 gets nothing).
With a wired controller you can plug it in and take out forcing an incorrect detection as Port2 which means it automatically belongs to Player2 and it's the only way to separate controls. So basically what the games wants is two 360 Controllers at least one of them wired.
It's plain bloody ridiculous.
Thankfully with x360ce vibmod from Virus if I rename Pad1 in the ini to Pad2 and Pad2 to Pad1 then it sees my Rumblepad2 (after inputting the HID and PID in the ini as well) as a Controller in Port2 and thus Player2s means of control. Which is the ONLY way to separate controls without 2 360 Controllers at least one of which is wired.
Seriously skulls deserve to be bashed in about this...there should be so much disclosure on the boxes of these 2 games that 2 360 controllers are required that you can barely see the game box itself anymore but there's nothing, it's left as a rude surprise. You just paid $40 for the game? Well the joke's on you dumbass cuz now you need to fork out another $120 for two wired 360 controllers. Enjoy your $160 game.

nah, cutting costs on the PC port. But, the good part is that it runs in 1080p and at a better framerate than the 360 version.

Except IMO it's the least fun of the 3 (granted I still need to get the full version)
Blur and Sonic are definitely fun (and the powerups are a lot more predictable which means you won't feel as cheated...also Sonic allows you to turn rubberbanding off which is a big plus in any racer (haven't looked at Blur enough yet))...just not worth the money so pirate them so that you have money spare for that 2nd 360 Wired controller (since unfortunately you can't pirate those) :P
Also aside from this bullcrap with the controllers Blur and Sonic definitely do the Splitscreen gaming experience justice, it's not just tacked on (Haven't had a chance to check out single player much yet).

serious sam is a under rated classic in my view, had it once and said cd broke.
unfortunately its damn near impossible to get running on my computer, im still figuring it out, and there's a hd remake available on steam, but hey, i don't buy from steam, i prefer having hard copies.
edit: figured it out.
Rise and fall has star force protection, star force protection which isn't compatible with 7 and it wont run without it, so its impossible to run without resorting to somewhat illegal measures, the game play is of a standard rts from what ive seen so far, only played the first map a bit.
medieval total war, well is awesome as usual, a bit fiddly and somewhat choppy at times during the battle sequences but its still worth the £1.50 i paid, i do prefer the board game feel of it myself, but its in no way as good as Rome total war.
and well Dungeon Keeper 2, has a rather interesting concept for the time, and well it just has a certain feel to it.
mind you they are a bit old, well about eleven years old in the worst case, and yes they are a bit of a mixed bag being entertaining to not playable.
and judging by the fact i needed some games to work on my laptop due to the fact im going home for Christmas, they should at least keep me entertained.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is a cult game almost as renowned as Diablo.
And Medieval Total War is the first true RTS, in other words more real life battlefield situations and troop movements. None of this resource management along with some fighting stuff the RTS genre is known for. The Total war games are pure strategy.

Kudos for getting Dungeon Keeper 2 Zidine. I hope you also have played the first one, for it is equally brilliant. The humor in these games is great, dark and black. New games yay :D
First is a game...or rather an edition of a game that's gonna land me in so much trouble if ever found I may be disowned and kicked out of the house...at the very least I would lose PC privileges...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/24012011371n.jpg
It's the Hellbook Edition of Darksiders, the only edition available locally...I really could have lived without all that potential doombringing material.
As you can see it comes with 4 postcard sized pics, a cool box and a concept art book.
Glued into the cool box is another small concept art book with hand drawn like map in at the back and a thank you from Darksider's creator for buying the Hellbook Edition.
It also comes with a prequel comic but they were too cheap to print that, same as the manual, and the included soundtrack is also just plonked on one of the discs rather than appearing on a separate disc which one could enjoy in a CD Player for instance.
Also lastly beware just like the Last Remnant and Just Cause 2 the game is a Steam Install so if you wish to keep your PC free of that you can't play this game, legally anyways.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/24012011379n.jpg
2nd is Divinity 2 - Dragon Knight Saga (which is Ego Draconis along with the latest one, so you get all of Divinity 2). I don't know much about the game...but you can turn into a Dragon...and even if I have to makedo with original Wolfenstein style graphics and Bethcrap bug city gameplay it's a must own (well at least play) for me cuz of that.
3rd I picked up FUEL for dirt cheap. Dunno something about the DIRT series bugs me so I'm hoping this can scratch my offroad racing itch.

How it's still in the original cover at that price I don't know, especially considering the original DIRT I got (which is a newer game) already was a classics edition, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Well my old old (Nvidia 5900XT old )PC died, and my laptop isn't well equipped enough to run it properly. I can run it but not in a state that is really worth calling a fully enjoyable experience, and it is getting rather hot despite me cleaning it regularly and running a cooler for it (thing burnt me a few times when I first bought it).
I will be building a new machine soonish however, just waiting for floods and other natural disasters to calm down for a while before I order the parts. I'm planning on having a bit of a bash with this little gem and possibly Metro 2033 which I keep forgetting I have a copy of.

Yes, the graphics looked pretty bad, even for that console, so if the PC version isn't any better, it's double bad. It visually looked alot like the first Fable in both technical and artistic means. That's not terrible, but bland in this day.
He also said it had alot of freezing problems (his particular Xbox 360 isn't very old and it's one of the newer S models too even), so I can back you up on the buggy part too. He died, and when it went to reload, sure enough, it froze. Seems the consoles (at least the Xbox 360, even the newer supposedly better and fixed model) aren't completely quick and painless these days.
As for the game itself, I know nothing of it other than the ending, which he mentioned being disappointed in.

Well the PC version is very different then.
First of all it's the most seamless open world experience I've ever had. It's got 3 big map chunks and other than larger buildings (some just stand open) and caves navigating them is a completely stutter-free experience (once you turn dynamic shadows off..which actually makes the game look better).
Visually it's both dated...very dated...and offering me some of the best visuals I've ever seen in an RPG (thanks mostly to some stellar lighting and the way many areas are just dripping in lovingly crafted details). It's a very edgey game and getting close up to nature will generally make it look like a DX7 game as you clip in and out of a 2D bush with very edgey grass-coloured hill in front of you...but look at that same spot from say 10M away...and it looks awesome. Occasionally you'll have an immersion breaking line appear a few meters in front of you which re-details stuff for it's close up version or which controls the shadows though. I should mention that in this edition Ego Draconis has basically been given a Oblivion QTP3 like HDR texture upgrade for lots of items.
When I see the bad stuff, even the really bad stuff though I don't give a damn cuz I know 10 secs from now the visuals will blow me away again, plus there's sooo much detail in dungeons and buildings. Some of the visuals are simply Epic.
Stability wise, well I've fallen through the ground once (in other words an oldschool clipping issue), and that's it...for Gamebyro that's freaking unbelievable. I've reloaded like 30 times and had 40 building to outdoor transitions and Alt-Tabbed out of the game a few times all in a single session and without a single crash and somehow without overloading my RAM as well giving me a stutter-free experience.
As usual in Gamebyro characters NPC and enemies are very stiff but the game tries to get around that by using bottled animations with lots of flair which kinda works in my opinion though it does get repetitive.
For a game which uses the Gamebyro Engine it's simply Unreal. It's without a doubt the best game using this engine (at the very least stability and performance wise if not the rest)
Story wise I can't say much either though I can pretty much already guess the ending is going to suck (since my objective isn't to kill the bad guy by fighting him but instead to resurrect his dead girlfriend which he soul-forged himself to when she died which is supposed to kill him (cuz the soul-forge is reversed)). I just haven't played the story much since there's so much exploring and sidequesting to do plus secrets to find.
It's the best WRPG I've played to date. It's like Gothic meets Jade Empire meets Fable.

The original Starcraft is still being sold? When did it come out, like 14 years ago?
Yup. And it's finally gone down to $20 for it and its expansion. The D2 version, however, is still $30 (in regular retail stores). Goes to show how some games don't really go down in value. You can get games from 2010 selling for less than that.

The game got more streamlined and it is significantly shorter. The first one was 60 hours while this one is 20. The combat is less strategic and deep. Bioware have been dumbing down their rpg elements in favor for action and more videos. Up to this point i wouldnt be surprised if Mass Effect 3 is purely a third person shooter with a few RPG elements tacked on.

Just 20? that means once you're finally into it and lost it's new feeling it's already all over? That's pathetic for an RPG, especially a CRPG.

A few things.
-The PC version of DA:O featured an overhead view the consoles did not
-The PC version of DA:O is modable, indefinitely extending re-playability. The console versions are not.
-The PC version of DA2 has a hi-res texture pack available from Bioware. The consoles do not.
I would call those problems with Bioware games on consoles.
Also, DA2, while alright, is an embarrassing successor to DA:O. Shame on Bioware.

In that case, I still disagree. I actually do agree, but it's been happening for a long time now, not just this year. It has been somewhat recent that the economy truly started effecting gaming. It seemed immune to the problem for a while there.
The sad thing is, rather than give the PC a proper version, they develop the same thing for all platforms, so it has to adhere to the lowest common denominator, so we get Xbox 360 ports.
Maybe it's not just the economy, but the industry itself. It's both saturated and stagnating. The economy is to blame, but so is gaming becoming Hollywooded. Maybe that's part of what happens when gaming grows. Because it is larger and more casual, and because of the dumb business model running it (greedy publishers), gaming has been heading the way of being dumbed down and "consolized" for the typical 16 year old Xbox 360 owner. I say Xbox 360 and not console because even many Playstation 3 games are apparently Xbox 360 ports.
I truly have have nothing against the consoles themselves, but I have a huge problem with my games becoming console games when I'm not on a console. It's ridiculous to say you "can't realistically" make two versions. Crysis sold, what, 4.5 million copies including Warhead? Despite the piracy, that's more than many console games. No, they couldn't keep Crysis 2 as a PC game and make some spin-off in the same universe (with different characters/story/different game) for the console. No, they couldn't make a version the bets it could be for BOTH platforms. It's possible. They're just blaming us (piracy, whining) so they can dumb down (be lazy) AND make more money (be greedy). I'm not buying their excuses any more than I buy those types of games.
Now I'm ranting.
Phil
March 9th, 2011, 18:05
lol. Well games are all about money these days. Everyone is less willing to take risks. You have to factor in other costs (such as marketing and licensing) that factor in the tens of millions. And yes this trend has been on going as you said. When the 360 (late 2005) came out, many devs jumped on that bandwagon due to the wide MS support.

Several games I bought online have started to turn up, as well as some other tidy deals have caught my eye. So far I've been slamming NBA Jam, and a mate and I spent nearly half a day creating this dude in the crappy wrestling game, only to become too jaded to actually use him in a match. Still, the special finishing moves we created which consisted of nothing more than direct assaults to the crotch was quite a hilarious way to spend time. We then both agreed to go back to WWF No Mercy for our wrestling shenanigans and wait until the new Legends game comes out.

Light grinding sounds pretty good, fortunately Blue Dragon had very little grinding to do which was plenty to keep me interested.
And I've never played FFVII except for the demo on the PC, way back in the day. From what I've seen though I like the setting and the way they created the world, but some of the characterisation leaves me a bit cold. I'll play it one day though. The only RPG's I've really played and enjoyed are Lufia II, Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Saiken Densetsu 3 (one of my favourites) Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. You could, if you knew what you were doing, not grind at all. Most people did a little, or you could go heavy and make them strong. It was your choice on if you wanted the benefits (or in the case of Final Fantasy VIII, to make it harder on yourself without knowing).

Wow, I never even reached level 70 in FFVIII. Maximum level that I usually reached was 50-65, or lower if I can. As soon as I got "encounter none" from Diabolos, I turned it off and seldom turned it back on. Level 99 would be too risky for me, since once I got to level 100 accidentally and "Lv. 5 Death" owned my party frequently. But yeah, a good junction is way more important than level in FFVIII

That is why I like the Tales series (and Star Ocean) so much. Despite its anime-ish nuance, the cliched story, its battle system is something I enjoy so very much, especially the latest installments. Tales of Legendia, though many people say that it is a drawback from Symphonia still offered variation and entertaining challenge, Abyss was a blast to say the least with its free run and AD skills. Now, playing Vesperia, I see a lot of things from the Abyss, the good things, stays and even improved. I expect even more from Graces F (still saving money to buy a PS3 though). In those games, battling never gets old. Well, to me at least :p
Oh, and I do grind A LOT. Especially in the games I like very much. I've only entered the third town in Vesperia, yet to go into other continent, and I already have 30+ hours in playtime. I do that while playing Super Street Fighter IV and NFS Hot Pursuit in between.

Mafia II is a good game. The type of stuff in it (all of the drug, ahem... women, and such) are far from my usual liking, but the story and characters are good (the latter is far from perfect and lacking in many literal ways, but it's still enough to make you connect, at least it did with me). The ending, and a certain part halfway through, are sad. The Playstation 3 version lacks PhysX though, but since the game consists of much driving, it's passable with the console/controller.
You could turn around and sell Modern Warfare 2 while it's MSRP is still $60. There's enough Call of Duty fans out there to where you could probably sell it for something worthwhile.

$24? Ouch. I hope you paid less. It was like $2.50 on Steam during the Holidays. Why didn't you get it there/then? Even with the "markup" some games get in Australia, surely it came out to cheaper than that?
I contemplated grabbing it, and perhaps should have, but word was it was incredibly short. I know, I know, it's just $2.50, but unless it's a flash browser game (that is a flash game though), it doesn't sit well with me to know a game is that short. Either way, if it sees another sale, I'll grab it. The music and art style and detail were a sad reminder of what's missing in today's games with their Hollywood size budgets with their Hollywood style games.

I've always preferred to buy games in their physical format, I know the digital revolution has chartered in cheaper games, but on a personal level I prefer to have the product in my hands. It harks back to my days as a little kid, looking at all the cool games hanging on the wall with their incredible artworks, and I still get that feeling when I buy stuff at retail. You get some cool extras too, soundtrack cd, art book and other little tidbits that I like.
It's the same reason I'm going to buy the Super Meat Boy Ultra Edition, I love having cool stuff like that, I just don't get that same level of satisfaction buying from steam (even with the saving costs). Also I value a game like Machinariam to be worth more than $24, so to me it was more than reasonable.

I so love how they include that as a mini poster, bit of a bummer its only on amazon.com at the moment, because the contents look really neat and pretty good for $20:

Edit: amazon.com is dildoes to Australians, $20 for shipping is downright crummy, but I can't help myself so I'll just make my own sammiches this week instead of the helper monkeys at the store doing it for me. For the Ultra Edition and for Team Meat it is worth it though.

Was lucky to still get a copy of Just Cause 2. All the stores were almost overflowing and then just a few months later I managed to find the last copy in the place. Brilliant game. A must play for pretty much anyone. Voice acting kinda sucks though and the main char seems more like a latino thug than a top american agent Sly style and it doesn't seem one can get silenced weapons so forget the stealthy approach but other than that it's great.
FME I'm kinda disappointed with. It doesn't exactly run great regardless of settings (typical console port in other words) and it just feels limited all round. Whilst there are multiple roots you can take the levels are really short and linear. It's basically move, fight 3 enemies, move, fight 5 enemies, move, fight a few more enemies, level over, cutscene, next level, rinse and repeat. Customization offers various options but there's pretty much no such thing as the perfect load-out since as soon as you get one or two parts perfect you don't have anymore power for other parts so it's basically constantly a choice between 2 mediocre parts and 1 strong part. And worst of all the findables are really well hidden, now this would be fine if then trying to find them wouldn't take so much longer than the combat itself. So I'll say play through a level and fight ~20 enmies in about 5 minutes and spend the remaining half an hour hunting for findables I still only locate at best half of. Still I had to get the game, and see for myself. I would have never lived it down if I'd let it slip through my fingers since I love mech games. Perhaps it will still get better later on.
And then these two had come down to quarter price so it was time to get them but I haven't played either yet (and still need to finish AC1). Glad I still found the original boxes since both have started appearing as greatest hits type titles with crap cases.

I never tried before and I'm afraid by now I'd probably find most of them too dated (and since it's a series I'd have to start with the most dated of the lot).
Conviction looks like a fresh new game though so I figured I might as well give it a shot.
Not really a fan of Stealth games either but stealth has gotten a lot more intuitive over the years to the point where it's not just crouching in a dark part of the room and hoping the enemies don't see you anymore but has actually become a propper system these days so I hope I will like it.
At the very least it should provide me with some practice for the new Deus Ex as well as tide me over till then.

Dunno why exactly your having performance problems though in my case it ran great 1280X720 and anamorphic 1280X1024 all settings high and with 4X SAA, the only problem i ever had with it was poor performance together with fraps. Never felt limited either, though its build as an action arcade game, your probably used to the classic mech approach which is why you think it limited (being dropped on a map and having to accomplish an objective). Customization ain't faulty as well, you have 3 types of mechs in game, the juggernaut type, assault all round type, and light assassin type and of course to some extent you can combine pieces of them. In this regards (and how levels are made, though FME does it better in some regards) its a similar approach as done by Armored Core. As for finding collectibles its not easier or harder than in any other game.

Very cool man, I have a Guncon, I was blessed as the store (Gamestop) didn't take them on trade and someone traded in Time Crisis 3 with the gun, so instead of pitching it, they gave it to me. That was a long time ago, they now take them in as "3rd party controllers"...

it was from Gamefly during the May used sale it was on sale for $17.99 and its comes with a new box and manual and sometimes a brand new disc. I already played it before so its not really new to me I just wanted it in my collection. Its a rare game to find for cheap, you can find the Special Edition if your local gamestop has it for $39.99 and almost full price on amazon at $53.69. Best Buy marked it down to $20 but its YMMV
The game itself is nice celshaded style and dual audio and about 90 % voiced throughout the whole game. Has multiple endings for the characters too so high replay value. What I didn't like was the time limits, the whole damn game is a time limit.

Been playing Darksiders myself as well.
Yeah, combat can be a bit frustrating at times. You have to really memorize your moveset and make use of powerful combos, knockdown attacks, and AoE (when surrounded) attacks to have a chance at this game, especially in later levels.
Always purchase non-leveled attacks from Vulgrim when available. Buy the scythe and stoneskin power ASAP. Even though this game's combat system draws from GoW and DMC, the rest of it is practically taken from the Legend of Zelda series, so keep an eye out for hidden chests and Legion artifacts, as well as little clues for solving puzzles in the dungeons.

That's enough Duke merchandise to make any man envious. I salute you, sir.

The only "collector's" packs I have are Doom (XBOX), Crysis (PC), and Lost Planet Extreme Condition (360.)
BTW, nice Duke Nukem set, and great buys on Gran Turismo 5 and Portal 2. If I owned a PS3, I'd buy that version of Portal to own it on the PS3 and the PC. In fact I think that's a great Valve/Steam idea and I wish they did it on the 360 as well as the PS3. I'm sure Microsoft wishes that as well, as it might get more 360 users to go "Live Gold" ;)

I found this in the box of my new PS3.
