Are you alive? oO

Btw, to all the people who buys used games, you can take the labels they put in them with some baby oil. You just make them all wet and take them carefully. proceed to use a little more of it to remove the glue traces.
Why are you asking if I'm alive?

I am, just been another bad couple of days physically. And with my best friend being home for the first time in two years, I've been spending a lot of my free time with him as we have been catching up. He was considering buying a PS3, and also other games for his other game systems. Since he has not been able to play video games for 2 years, we went to the local gamestore and I showed him everything that I thought he would most likely like. If it wasn't for him, I probably would not have gone to the gamestore and have missed the opportunity to buy Silent Hill and Siren.

Btw, anyone played Siren? I don't know much about the game at all and haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Thank you Kazuya, for the tip. Thankfully, the gamestore does not put stickers onto any used games that you buy from them (at least the discs, which I'm guessing you and Titus were referring to). They only put an easy peel off sticker on the top right hand corner of the game case so that you know how much it costs if you were to buy it.

Lol, I asked because I have seen you online as I used to.

Btwm I was refering to stickers. From ads to price. Baby oil does wonders removing the glue in them and making the plastic look clean and shiny again. (Plus if you rub your face against it, it feels soft and cushy :D )

Why? :dead:

Well, since I've been sick and have no job, and won't be getting any current flow of money anytime soon, I really have to pick and choose the games I want for my PS3 very very carefully.

I am able to get money from doing odd jobs for friends and family. And I save it a lot. But since new PS3 games are about 60 USD when they come out, there's no way I'm going to blow all that money on a single game and then end up not liking it. That's like my biggest fear.

So I've had to keep my eyes open for really good deals as I build my collection. At first, I tried to find games that were the oldest that I wanted and were used (for example, Bioshock, F.E.A.R., Condemned 2, etc). I was patient and waited and checked up on video game sales often. I got most of my older games for only maybe 5 USD. The most expensive priced one was 11 USD. XD

Then for Christmas or Birthdays, I would ask my fam to give me E-T rated PS3 games since that's all that is allowed here at my house (no, they do not know that my collection is made up of mainly M games) and since there weren't a lot with that rating, I just let my family get all the ones that I was interested in (Eternal Sonata, Uncharted 2 and LittleBigPlanet).

Then for my past birthday, my boyfriend found a new copy of Assassin's Creed and gave it to me. But for Christmas he gave me the sequel which is a lot of money. D:

I was lucky to find used games of Uncharted 1 for only 24 USD. Dead Space was new but only cost me 19 USD.

Currently, I want Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain and a couple others. Demon's Souls is going down in price pretty steadily the longer I wait. I think by January of next year, it should be down to at least 30 USD new and maybe 25 used. For some reason, Heavy Rain is very very slowly going down in price. I want it so badly. I loved the demo. But I heard it's very quick to beat and I may not like the whole game. So I do not want to spend 50 USD for a new copy.

Thankfully, because of the economy, if you wait only several months after a new video game is released, the price of the game will dramatically decrease. Take the newest Final Fantasy for example. When it was released it could go for 65 USD. Now, I can easily get a copy that's new for 35 USD. Used would be about 25 USD.

Hopefully my huge rant made sense.

lol region locks don't exist at all in PC games.

Depends entirely how you define "region locks".

Warcraft 3 only searches for games in a certain region (America, Europe, Asia..), but you're free to play in any of those regions.

MMOs also have region locks, where the key is region specific, depending on where you buy it. For instance, keys purchased in the US are locked to the US by default, and the ones bought in Europe is locked to the European servers.

I'm glad there are certain regions for online games, because to truly enjoy the game (if you're good at it) you need low ping, else it's a nightmare to play it.
I tried playing on the US servers on Warcraft 3 some years ago, and microing was a nightmare. In the end I just a-moved my units into the base or enemy army.

gamefreak94
September 1st, 2010, 12:24
In some online games yes, but otherwise in general it's practically unheard of. And even that region lock is easily by-passable using a proxy anyway.

It runs fine. I played them all except for Drawn already. Also, dear God you're missing out on Braid. Words cannot describe how great that game is. The story is amazing although the way it's told could be better and the gameplay is excellent. The artwork is beautiful, resembling watercolour painting and the soundtrack is amazing as well. Braid is pretty much the physical proof that games are art! Machinarium falls in the same category as well.

You can purchase the download online if you wish IF you're into puzzle games. It's what I did, but I always prefer the physical medium.

SCHUMI_4EVER
September 10th, 2010, 14:50
I played the demo for Machinarium but I wasn't blown away, art perhaps but not exactly my kind of art and it's kinda hard knowing what you can interact with and what you can't.

But I guess l need to take a look at Braid then.

Milanó
September 10th, 2010, 14:59
That's called pixel hunting and it's a cardinal sin in the point and click world! Machinarium isn't that bad in terms of pixel hunting when compared to The Whispered World. I didn't have many issues with it.

Awesome game, although I didn't know it existed for the PC.Hehe, ya it does! I have never played a true PC game on a computer before so it was a neat experience. And also, it was the first horror game I've ever tried out. And then, the ending made me cry. ;u;

But Noja was the one that told me to play Silent Hill 2 and that was a lot of firsts that I experienced with that game! Funnily enough, this was only a year ago.

I'm obsessed with Silent Hill now. <3

I wanna play Braid. I've heard it's amazing and rated really well. What is it about? I read one review on it before and it didn't explain it too well.

Milanó

@Milanó Of all those I haven't played Drawn. Might check it out.

But the top 3 are great, will check out the other one.

I have never played Drawn, so I can't say I recommend it, though I heard it's good. Also the above mentioned The Whispered World is pretty good as well despite its pixel hunting. This however is conpensated by the Space button which highlights every interactable object. The story starts EXTREMELY cliche, but it makes a twist and turns darker.

Regarding Irukapookablabalbla's reply: If you enjoyed Silent Hill try getting Amnesia. It came out this week and it's a point and click horror extremely emmersive apparantly, although I haven't played it yet. Hasn't arrived in europe yet.

Braid's story is really hard to explain and it has multiple interpretations in the end. The underlying concept is as follows: "What would you do if you could undo your every mistake?". The story is about a man named Tim who spends the whole game chasing his beloved. Her nature is never explained until the very end and ONLY if you get every star (nigh impossible and extremely frustrating). The story is told in the form of books between levels, which is the game's biggest mistake. However they are very poetic and it will only draw you in. The last level, appropriately called Braid, reveals what was really going on and you'll suddenly be hit by a "WOW" sensation.

If you have further questions, PM me and I'll develop my thoughts.

Roger in anyways <3Yeah Dead Space is an amazing game. I'm so glad that I bought it, even though I hadn't really heard of it and had really low expectations for the game. Because of that, I was completely blown away every time I played it. From my point of view, it's a game that definitely needs more appreciation IMO.

But heck ya, there's a movie out. I haven't seen it yet and in fact had forgotten about it until you mentioned that you were playing Dead Space. I think it's about the events that happened before the video game of Dead Space.

the movie is an anime hybrid though so you may not like itAnime hybrid? Do you mean that the animation is just anime-esque looking?

SCHUMI_4EVER

By hybrid I mean it's part anime and part western animation. Though looking at it again I guess it's more modern western animation than anime.
Also yes it's a Prequel.

Irukapooka

I don't think you should take the chance to watch the film before beating the game, kakashi.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I was told to watch it only after I had beaten the game. Also, you have some surprising twists throughout the game that would probably spoiled from the film. And trust me, you want those twists from the game. Thank goodness that idiot Taisen isn't around anymore. He ruined it for me. Just don't ruin it for yourself. You may end up regretting it.

Unfortunately the original box for The Saboteur eluded me (well I did fine one, but still sitting at the original price of about $60) so no pic of that cuz it's just a classic edition but I did manage to find the last original Mass Effect 2 box in the entire shopping center.

Though I know the story...I just stopped playing cuz I hated the Mako...so I may just skip straight to Mass Effect 2..anybody know whether the game makes some bad choices for me if I don't import a complete Mass Effect one save and instead choose to play as if I don't have the original Mass Effect?

I snagged a black Nintendo 64, no power supply, no A/V, no controller for $1.99 at a Goodwill. I got it home and tried a power supply from my poiple see thru N64 and a spare controller plus a/v and it worked. I found a "new" power supply for $11.95 w free shipping on EBAY and when I checked, this N64 has the 4 MB video add on included.

The "extra" N64 controller ran me ~ $1.99, and the a/v was probably the same price! I had them for some time as spares!

It's Cyber Snipa Gear, the keyboard (a Cyber Snipa Warboard) looks good but isn't really anything special well it's got macro keys and anti-ghosting around the WASD cluster but that's basically it, Razer, MS and Logitech and even some other companies offer far better (full anti-ghosting) and the software for it's macros suck, I wouldn't really recommend it. The block-the-windows-button button comes in quite usefull though. I chose it mainly cuz it was cheap and I liked the old MS keyboard feel it has (clicky keys) plus it was either this or some generic MS or Logitech keyboard.

The mouse (a Cyber Snipa Stinger) on the other hand is indeed awesome. It's one of the best gaming mice ever made in my opinion (and one of the cheapest ones too).

I like to buy extra consoles sometimes and gift some games I'm not playing with it to a buddy.

I figure the system doesn't get thrown out, the 2nd hand store makes some money, usually one that benefits a charity, like a second hand store that benefits a local animal shelter, a Goodwill that benefits disabled people, or a salvation army, plus I get to tithe some video games and a system. Good old Risk, I'd never play it digitally though XD, I find the rules too restrictive and would rather modify them and I obviously can't do that digitally. Almost every Risk game I've played propperly irl has ended in a draw with single units all across the map. So I modify the rules to replenish units after more than just continent conquering.

There was a neat C64 game similar to Risk called Lords of Conquest, for a digital version, its pretty fun! I have the "original" disk plus a dump a preservation society did for me when they digitized my C64 library.

It's only $20. Or, perhaps you could copy all of the disc contents to a couple DVDs? It won't get you the nice autorun or whatnot, but it'll still cut back on the CDs. If you play many of them alot (which requires alot of disc swapping), then it might be worth it. While most of those games have No-CD patches, I think The First Decade has that built in for all of it's games.

I'm sort of stuck in the same situation. I was still considering The First Decade about two years back, for the same reason, plus I didn't have all of them (I had The Command & Conquer Collection, so I was missing Generals and it's expansion, plus Command & Conquer 1 and Red Alert 1 and it's expansions), but the first two have since been released free (Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge might be made free next), so now the only thing it has that I don't is Generals and it's expansion, which I wasn't crazy for. I don't care much about having multiple discs, but I still have the ISOs from the free ones they released just sitting on my backup drives and don't think I'll install them/deal with their compatibility issues (if any) right now. Keep seeing it at Best Buy/Walmart and contemplate picking it up before it goes away.I haven't worked these games into my shelving yet, so this is all probably from the past month or 2 :p

snickothemule

Indeed, the transfer rate is rather ridiculous, no matter how strong our dollar performs (or that is what I have been lead to believe).

However in the end I spent less than $38 Australian for the game to be shipped from over seas and delivered straight to my door, than it was for me to buy online and begin a download. Even though it doesn't seem like a major thing, I just thought that was rather neat on the process and saving I made.

You are going to play Heavy Rain and Demons Souls first right?

After all you wanted those two games for how long? oO :)At least one year ago when I played the demo for HR and saw how DS's gameplay was. And I was impressed. :)

But, yes, I'm gonna play Demon's Souls first. Heavy rain will be for a day that has the right opportune moment for me to play it. Because I know how I'm going to love it and play straight through. Hehe.

Demon's Souls not all the long seeing as it hasn't been out that long. Heavy Rain however she's wanted for over a year now.I'm not sure which one came first. I think one came out and then the other game released a couple weeks after.

But Demon's Souls has been out longer.Aw, I guess Exodus has a different opinion.

0_o it has? ..... I'm almost certain koko (and Spyhop) was raving about Heavy Rain halfway through last year already whereas the whole Demon's Souls thing started a couple of months ago...Oh no. Demon's Souls has been out far longer than that. It was just released in a month as a Greatest Hits Title. So it had to have been released for quite awhile. :)

I beat the game last night, the game is pretty nice despite the low scores it got. I enjoyed the gameplay and the battle engine but the story and music isn't anything great. I would say rent this or wait until a price drop

Oh yikes! D:

How long did it take you to beat it?

ModNation Racers seemed fun on the PS3, at least when I played it at a kiosk. It may even be as fun a Mario Kart, but I'd have to play it a few hours to know.

Wow, that's cool! I only got away with that once with Soul Crapular Broken Game for the PSP. Man, being a Soul Calibur junkie I hated that POS and when I had a chance to get an extra 40% trade in credit, I took advantage of it. I even traded in and repurchased the same game and it upped the trade in values of all games by 10% so I panned out even for trading in and buying it. It was the Daxter game for the PSP.

w00t, new games, fresh on arrival. Or well, as you may have picked up from the "rate what you're playing" thread, I got some earlier. I don't know if I already put a photo of SEGA Superstar Tennis online, but well, I got that one too. No news to you, Samor :p

We had a side by side comparison of SS Tennis the other week and from what I remember they are identical.

I decided to get Borderlands GOTY as well, in order to play it with my brother. I have the feeling I'll regret my purchase, as shooters should be played on a PC, but I'm going to give it a try. I haven't played the PC version in a while, so I hope the graphics are acceptable, meaning there's no tearing and a decent framerate. I'm curious how much they put on the Bluray disc though. If I have to download all 4 DLC's, somebody has to keep me from throwing my PS3 out of the window.

EDIT:

**** that ****, "VOUCHER CODE - ONE CODE TO RULE THEM ALL!!!!"
Time to boot the PS3. If I leave on my console overnight I might be able to play the game on Sunday.

EDIT #2:

Update 1.04 found, installing...

Why the **** wasn't this included on the disc, it's only been out for a month? :???:

http://users.telenet.be/lith/BlankFFFUUUU.jpg

Edit #3

Downloading now... added screenshots to warn those with download caps or crappy internet. Avoid this version. This GOTY offers nothing special except the map, which is just a piece of shiny paper.

Right now I'm playing the game with the downloads being reeled in in the background. I'm considering getting a seperate controller for this game, because as much as I like it, the Dual Shock 3 cramps up my hands as badly as the Dreamcast controller does.

Hyuga

Nice one Cid, I got Borderlands GOTY too last week, though on PC and haven't dlded any DLC yet (too lazy?). I barely scratched the main game anyways ;) (Fallout New Vegas came out:P). But yeah, PC version plays much nicer (and in higher res;)).

Cid Highwind
October 22nd, 2010, 21:43
Yup, played the PC version for many many hours, I thought it's about time to actually pay my respects to the devs by getting this version now that money isn't an issue anymore :)

Truth be told, the resolution isn't too much of an issue. Of course the game looks much sharper with more vibrant colours on the PC, but I expected it to be worse on the PS3. I can certainly live with the graphics, seeing how I haven't seen any tearing except for in the intro movie. My biggest problem is with the control scheme and the fact it's on a console in the first place. Auto-aim doesn't seem to work either. And why can't I remap the pick up items / reload button to R3? Everytime I have to pick up something, I have to move my thumb from the thumbstick to the Square button. Why not let me customize the controls the way I exactly want to have it?

At the beginning of this generation we heard of fears that consoles are becoming more and more like PCs. Well it seems they have only taken the bad aspects of PC gaming: Underspecced GPUs trying to run installed games at non-native resolutions which require the download of day-1 patches. At least Sony gave us region free gaming.... for as long as it lasts.

Thank you Koko!

Well I'm really happy with my 8Mb download speed, it seems the servers aren't too shabby either as at one point I noticed I was downloading with one MB (byte) a second. The most annoying things is that in total you'll still spend 2 hours downloading, and while this can be done in the background, that will result in you having to take half an hour for installing.

Halo 3 ODST - after finishing Reach, I though I'd play this storyline too.
F1 2010 - can't really go wrong with a Codemasters racing game, except for the brown Ferrari's :p
Front Mission Evolved - pc version, for various reasons (it's a mech game, cheaper, multiplayer, 1080p)

I might be buying more pc games again... in certain cases I made a few mistakes where I shouldve gotten a pc version of a game instead of the 360 one. It's very game-specific, though.

Definitely going to be Viking, I've been waiting years to have a crack at it. I have a strong feeling it is not going to be one of those games that will blow me away with gameplay, visuals, audio, however I get this inkling that it will be a very satisfying game.

Sega have been doing rather well (with exception of course) with this generation of consoles, Bayonetta, Condemned, the upcoming Vanquish, Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter 5, Yakuza, perhaps games that may not be at the top of the pack, but games that I tend to remember as being very enjoyable and worth the time. Viking gives me that same impression.

I myself feel quite torn apart at times - play on my 360 or PC? Sometimes I get games for both of those systems (like Dead Space, Gears of War or GTAIV), sometimes I have it on one, but while playing I'm thinking I should've got this game for the other. This is unbearable!

Other than that I find that achievements distract me from actually enjoying the game itself, which isn't good at all. Back in the old days with no achievements I really appreciated the game for what it was, not for its achievements and that I can get another 1000 or 200G to my collection. But now it's different and no matter how hard you try to resist, you always find yourself in pursuit for such and such achievement... Came to it that I get Games for Windows removers for a few games even though I have legit copies of them :>

:D Viking was the first PS3 game I bought together with Demon's Souls. I fully agree with you on SEGA and its offerings this generation. You're missing out on Valkyria Chronicles and Sonic & SEGA Allstar Racing, and there's still Virtua Tennis. They haven't had a line-up this strong since the Dreamcast. Please let me know what Viking's like. I've played it for an hour or so and it seemed quite enjoyable, perhaps a bit like Brütal Legend, but with less metal.

snickothemule
October 26th, 2010, 09:57
I just had a bit of a play through this afternoon of Viking, it isn't too bad of a game.

It does have a quite a few bits and pieces that has left it amongst other average games, animations are okay, a bit own the stiff side and not at all fluent when compared with other adventure hack and slashers (God of War, Ninja Gaiden) which as a result makes progression a bit stiff. The voice acting is rather rushed, the pacing is far too quick, the writing all but non existent, and the graphics are above average at best.

Combat is also a bit stiff, however when there are 50+ guys on screen at once and the framerate never hitches it is a great thing to see. By no means is this a top tier title, although I am having more fun than I expected. It isn't a solid game, but it has enough to make me want to keep playing it.

What it really needs is more mythology, more of a story line (actually any real storyline in the game would be nice), characters that are memorable to interact with, larger environments, more varied enemies, less strict combat animations/movement and less scripted events to take place. Although if I started complaining about scripted events within this generation of games I'd be here all night.

I wonder if the DRM turned gamers off, or if they just wanted the PS3 version. From the limited time I played the PS3 version on a Gamestop Kiosk, it seemed easier than the PSP version. Obviously it had a great deal more content as well, but the PSP online support seems nice. I downloaded a few cars, drivers, and tracks, and am going to try them out.

Even though I intensely dislike the DRM, I like the game. I'm curious if it will be tied to one PSP or if I ever buy another PSP if it will let me play on either one?

...and I still didn't play the series... btw, did you manage to play the original two Yakuza's yet?

Reviews tend not to matter too much when you're a fan of the base material. For example, I had no problem with the horribly received Suikoden 4. It worked fine for me!

It got mixed reviews from review sites that matter.

The dick heads at Edge gave it a 40/100 in similar fashion to FF XIII's 50/100.
I also noticed that the edge score is absent on the 360 FF XIII page of metacritic..........

I rarely read any reviews about games I just quickly glance at scores, I have played a lot of games that scored low and I liked those games a lot. I never had problems with suikoden 4 or 5 even with the lag and slow load times :p

Some people are simply easier to please than others :p.

Though to be fair if a game has less than 59/100 on metacritic it is probably garbage.

Don't look at the scores, read the views, see my above quote.

it's funny... I was checking Sonic Colors reviews (not that I have a Wii) and most of them were positive, except for one single review that burned it like the previous installments (must've been a habit?). It does say something about how some of those game review sites work...

People who aren't capable of casting aside their biases shouldn't do reviews.

I'm a RABID Kingdom Hearts fan, but you didn't see me giving 358/2 days a perfect score in our review section :p.

I agree, IMO some recent Sonic games were the victim of their predecessors...

Nope, not yet, would love SEGA to do a PS3 version of those in the style of God of War, but it certainly won't happen considering the sales figures of the original. I'm thinking I should just borrow a PS2 from someone and play them. The games are rather hard to find though I think Play.com has some sellers of a new copy, so I think I'll bite soon enough. The only thing keeping me back from doing so is the fact I have a backlog that can keep me gaming for an entire year already.

Managed to snag the Last Limited Edition and for $2 cheaper to boot than the regular edition was selling for in other stores.

Also got Operation Flashpoint - Dragon Rising despite all the flack it got, I didn't see any of it as too bad and I liked the Demo. No pic of that though since it's just a disc basically that looks no different from the usual cover.

Congrats on GT5 Spy and @Ruan!

Nothing much really basically an extra cop car (though the normal game has it for racers) and an extra racer car (though the normal game has it for cops) plus 4 earlier unlocks. It was meant to just be pre-order bonus, I was lucky I actually found one in a normal shop.
If you zoom in you should just be able to read what's in the limited edition at the top of the back of the cover.
