I took my brother out to get another copy of a game that stopped working, and decided to grab myself two games.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/Lord_Zedeck/Games_02.jpg

These are somewhat unusual purchases, since one is a sports game (I'm a Cavaliers fan) that my brother has for the Xbox 360 and says is good, and the other was sort of an impulse buy, so yeah, something different. NBA2K10 was $14.99 and Killing Floor was $19.99 (am aware it's on Steam too, but oh well).

One of his games stopped working (was probably scratched up? I don't know, and don't care even since he gave me $5 for the gas and time), and I gave him a ride to the store so he could buy it, and while we were there, I was browsing the PC games and made a purchase or two of my own. What's hard to understand about that?

There is a way to remove the prices and labels that sometimes are glued to the cases and boxes of used and new games. Just use baby oil. I made a tutorial that can be seen along with pictures in my personal blog.

Shamelessly points toward sig :p

Not pictured (as they're "loose") Gran Turismo 3, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, DOA2 Hardcore, all PS2.

I haven't installed Dungeon Lords and won't get to play BlazBlue until July when I get a 360, I picked it up now as its 1/2 price at the moment, Easter Sale at Gamestop.

I tried Soul Calibur Broken destiny, its not as bad as Soul Calibur 3, but I wish it were Soul Calibur or Soul Calibur 2, no arcade mode, I hate the "do this move or lose mode" and I seriosly doubt I'll convince Charline to buy the game so I can play 2 player...I wish I had purchased King of Fighters instead   :(

No PSP 3000/go is. The best they can have is "half" custom firmware, which goes away as soon as you power off completely, due to it being loaded in RAM. You have to rerun the exploit each time you turn it back on from a cold boot.

Mine is, as Daxtsu said, half hacked. But when it is, there is no noticeable difference. I can run games. Never tried any application or emulator on it though. Hope a new decent CFW comes out soon.

This was from last Friday to today. IIRC I snagged Resident Evil 4 Wii last Friday 4/2/10, the rest was today. The Dragon's Lair II was actually priced ~$5.90 after it was discounted to $7.99, then dropped another 30% off.

The Samurai Shodown was a PIA to get for the PSP, now all I "need" is the KOF Anthology for the PSP and I'll have all the Neo Geo games out for it. I have the SNK pack, Metal Slug pack, and the Samurai Shodown Pack.

I can also play Dragon's Lair "legally" on my PC, as owning the XBOX version entitles me to be able to play Dragon's Lair II Timewarp in Daphne.

It came to about $120 for everything. The DS games were extremely cheap at about $5 each, Prinny was $24, and the rest were between $10 and $20 each. The Patapon 2 download voucher was put in with Prinny by accident so that was a freebie.

It's actually kind of sad... I bought FF XIII just a few weeks ago and looking at this haul, I really don't feel like finishing it right now.

Tekken 6 was 50% off the normal RRP of $149.95. Considering all other retail outlets were selling the standard edition for $99 I thought it was a good deal. I didn't get the arcade controller though, so I'll settle for the PS3 controller.

yeah wing wangs are money. Refer to Futurama where Bender adopts children for full details.

I have to say Tekken 6 is pretty good, although I am a complete novice to its combat system. Graphics are incredibly inconsistent however, some scenes being really smooth and look incredible, others look hideously low res and jagged.

cool, I envy you :mad::p
wish I had a ps3 and tekken6.

Though I have completed tekken6 on teh arcade.
This game is very unique because

its a fist fighting game, no weapons (except for 2/42 character)
the physics is great
the fights are fair
each character is unique and has really cool moves and once you get settled with one character you can become invincible.
42 characters to play with
awesome scenario campaign, makes the game a fighting RPG.
get a taste of your own poison with the Ghost mode.

My first PS1 game was tekken3, I hated it and I hated the fighting genre.
Now, my fav PS3/PSP game is tekken6 and I like fighting genre more than any other genre. But I don;t like soul calibur since its weapons fighter.

I traded in a few games at Gamestop to get a few games.

I traded in, Soul Calibur Broken Destiny (PSP), Contra 4 (DS), Feel The Magic (DS), Race Driver: Create & Race (DS), Every Extend Extra (PSP), and Daxter(PSP), and received $35.29 for them in trade in credit (on my card.)

I purchased Impossible Mission (Wii), Pangya (PSP), Alien Syndrome (PSP), Daxter (PSP), and The Lost Vikings (GBA), and had to pay ~$1.43 in tax.

Now if you're wondering why I traded in Daxter and repurchased it, trading in 6 games at Gamestop gave me an extra 40% in trade in credit (in addition to having 10% for my Edge card,) so it boosted my Soul Calibur trade in by $1.35 (10%,) and I got $1.50 for Daxter and I repurchased it for $2.79, so it was a wash, but I'd have lost 10% on the other 4 games I traded in by not trading it in.

So far I like what I got better than what I gave up.

Nice games Koko, I haven't had the chance to try them, though they are on my brother's shelf. I read many great things about Demon's Souls, which is definitely a game I'd love to play.

Paratech, I see you traded in Soul Calibur, isn't that supposed to be quite a good game, or doesn't it come close to the quality of the console versions?

Anyway, here's a pic of some recently acquired games, actually, they were purchased a bit earlier this year, in January. I've been playing them to great extend, as they're a lot of fun. The other week I got Pokémon Red and Pokémon Pinball from a friend of mine. Haven't tried them yet, but they're great games as I played them back in the days. And now I have both Blue and Red ^^

hm, pc guitar hero? does that work well? I've been hearing people complaining about syncing issues, but maybe they just didn't have it configured right/poor pc.

also, is that a pc specific controller? I think the xbox one works on pc using the 360 wifi receiver... since I just got a new one, I'll have to try that. Btw, there also seem to be some rather nice freeware GH clones available for pc.

It shouldn't be an issue on your PC. It is quite difficult setting up the audio and video lag properly, it's trial and error really. Right now I feel I nailed the settings so there's no issue at all. There's some framedrops from time to time, but that's all. My biggest complaint is that you cannot configure the controls, so in case you have a PS2 guitar you need to use Joy2Key for it.

Anyway, this is a PC specific controller, got it for €36,- (including the game :D ) at Mediamarkt Utrecht. If you visit your local one, just inquire, as they might keep them in the back. They had about thirty-something left when I asked, just none were for show.

The freeware version is called Frets on Fire, I've been playing that even more I think. Just make sure you're not a n00b, cause a lot of songs are Expert only, with Hard included if lucky. Being a metal fan, a lot of my fav songs are quite difficult to say the least. Still, nothing beats playing Avantasia, Edguy and Manowar.

Cid Highwind
April 27th, 2010, 20:02
Guitar Hero is pretty simple. You have a guitar with 5 coloured buttons for your left hand, the frets, and there's a so called strumbar, which you use with your right hand. With those frets you decide what note to play by pressing them down. By pressing (well, moving up or down) the strum bar you decide when that note is to be played. On this vertical map you see the notes of the song, so you have a particular pattern to play. Create combos by making no mistakes so that you will score more points. Fail, and you won't hear the guitar but some nasty noise really.

Exodus
April 28th, 2010, 00:27
I'm sure if you put it on a lower difficulty they wouldn't be as frustrating... That won't solve the boring-ness though.

SCHUMI_4EVER
April 28th, 2010, 00:50
protection missions are difficult this way or that in any and all games cuz the AI of the party you're trying to protect has like one line of code that basically says move whereas the AI for enemies is infinitely complex so well the party you're trying to protect does all the wrong things while the enemy does all the right things and you're stuck in the middle accomplishing very little as you shuffle back and forth between threats.

Exodus
April 28th, 2010, 03:32
True... but at lower difficulty settings should always help since enemy damage is usually decreased. And damn Schumi, that was one long-ass sentence.

As for Prototype first time i played it i did the horrible mistake of also getting into the side missions... got so boring i stopped playing but after a while on a whim i tried to give it another go and sticked just to the main story (and went just after military bases to learn how to drive or fly a heli) doing it like that it turned out good i liked it.

Nice pics Samor. I already have Batman: Arkham Asylum so I won't buy the "3d" version. I'm unsure if I'll buy Super Street Fighter 4, particularly since there's no PC port and I already purchased Street Fighter 4, although I'll be curious of your take on the game...

I dunno about the Sonic racing game, I hear the PC version isn't very good...

Samor
May 7th, 2010, 21:04
I specifically went for the pc version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing because the 360 version had poor performance. It's missing the online features, but runs at a better framerate on my pc than the 360 demo did, and I'm running it in a higher resolution as well. Also, it was half the price.
IMO, you need a 360 controller to play it properly, though (or maybe other gamepads work properly (they didn't in my case); either way analog steering is highly recommended).

You won't miss the 3D in Batman: AA a lot. It's a subtle effect, and it works, but not much more than a gimmick.

As for SSFIV, it's an optimised version of SFIV with quite a bit extra content, so I didn't mind paying mid-price for it.

Yeloazndevil
May 7th, 2010, 21:33
SSF4 felt like a SF game to me unlike SF4, probably end up picking it up since I tried it at a friends house last week.

Samor
May 7th, 2010, 22:14
it does hit more close home to the "old" SF's than the previous one did, not in the last place because of the inclusion of more fan-favorite characters. It helps a lot in the little things... the anime intro's are less animated, but look better, there's more character-related music, relation to final fight is back and we finally see some sf3 characters back.
I've also noticed a few improvements in balance and the new stages are gorgeous.

Exodus
May 7th, 2010, 23:28
So it was more than just a quick add-on of characters, and release?

Samor
May 8th, 2010, 01:17
yep, while it's similar, it's highly polished.

they didn't change everyhing around, so, it's not like a street fighter alpha 3 or 3rd strike, but enough to warrant it a valid upgrade and an improved game.

I'm missing parries, though, but that's me; only recently I found out properly how they worked (SF3) and I love the concept.... they should've continued on it.

Paratech
May 8th, 2010, 22:10

Samor
May 9th, 2010, 02:07
the anime parts are all different (new intros, endings), but while they're better drawn, they're much less animated (often being more of a picture slideshow).

Also, there's new rival cutscenes for the new characters, but it seems to be the same for all the existing characters.

Wow Paratech. Lol. How many games do you usually get per month? It seems like you're always expanding your collection every week. ;)

I was just wondering how you get your money to buy these. But I suppose you get most of them from sales or second hand stores, right?

Btw how is Velvet Assassin? About a month ago, Blockbuster was doing a sale of buy one game for 10 bucks and get one free! So I wanted to get Bioshock for my PS3 and ended up getting a game for free even though none interested me. So I told Edward to go and pick something for his 360. The games were pretty picked over but he picked up Velvet Assassin. And then he played it. I guess it was pretty horrible. XD Oh well, it was a game that he got for free and didn't like. It would be really disappointing if I spent 60 USD on a game for him that he ended up hating.

I haven't played Velvet Assassin yet, but it was on GoGamer for $2.99 plus shipping and I got another game for free, so I got 2 games for $5.90 S/H included.

The games you see in my list were $2.99 each, except frogger which was $0.03. Goodwill was having a buy 1 get 4 free on stuff they wanted to get rid of and Frogger was in that list.

I buy mostly used games.

That might have to do with "Trap.exe". It's a dodgy little app that disables the Windows keys when playing the game. Because of this, it's detected as a Trojan by several virusscanners. I just let the scanner (in my case, MS security essentials) do it's job and delete the file - the steam version runs fine without it.

You don't like zombies? Zombies are smart in that game :p But hey, that new director of RE games killed the horror element in RE games after Code Veronica.

Your friendly neighbourhood mule has been buying up as of late, mainly due to the biggest game sales I can recall from recent memory.

So far powered through both RE:5 and Uncharted 2, enjoyed them both despite their flaws, Loco Roco has been a surprise delight in both price (supposed to be 20, got it for 7.95) and in charming gameplay, Tomb Raider was the special edition (same price as regular) and Bionic Commando was a massive surprise in both gameplay and at times with its gorgeous visuals. Crackdown was a tenner and I couldn't resisit despite its reputation as being the extra game you got with the Halo 3 beta. It's an alright game, but nothing spectacular.

Kany and Lynch has been a disappointment but I expected as such, and Final Fantasy for the PSP has not impressed me at all yet, but I am determined to push through it. It is the first Final Fantasy game I have ever played. Resistance Fall of Man was also a massive letdown, fair enough it was a launch game for the PS3, but it is so bland in playablility and in visuals I can't keep interested.

I picked up Wet today, looks interesting however I am not holding my breath for spectacular gameplay, just a game I can pop in and have a quick blast with.

The most spectacular purchase I have made yet however was the splendid Limited Edition of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger with the arcade stick. Regular RRP was $119.95 and only on sale at EB (in Coffs anyway), they had a $30 sticker off but after researching the website I saw it for a special price. So I says to the clerk I says "you got calamity trigger in store" and he says "yeah", so he goes and gets it, puts it on the table and zaps it in the machine and his face dropped. 37 wing wangs it cost me, that is like a million percent off so I grabbed it. The clerk then went out back and bought a copy for himself.

RE isn't a psychological horror, its just zombies and mutated humans like Left 4 Dead (if you know about it).....for some reason it didn't appeal to me AT ALL. You get like 10 pistol bullets and have to get through 500 zombies i.e. run like a coward 90% of the time. Also the controls suck badly, it gets worse with a keyboard/mouse (though you being a console gamer that shouldn't be an issue), but even console/gamepad users complain about it.

I think Gerudo is a deserted valley.I've never heard of Siren but I have heard of Fatal Frame! I'm kind of hoping that they'll remake Fatal Frame...isn't it for the PS2? If so, if I could find the game for really really cheap then I wouldn't mind buying it. It sounds like an amazing game. I will check out Siren. Maybe I will buy Haunting Ground (I believe that's the American name for it) and Silent Hill 3 then but I am hoping that SH3 will be released onto the PS3. Though it may be a long shot...

Yes, I'm talking about that Gerudo. You'll get to do the Temple after the Shadow Temple. :)

Ugh I really don't want to play that game now.

That doesn't describe the situation at all, in RE4/5 (except 2 scenes near the beginning of each game) you kill them all and the 1/2/3/CV there's way more to it than that.

You must not have played the version where you have to slowly spin around in place to turn the other direction.Yeah, that is true, but only in the first one. Its more than 10 years old by now. Old things in Japan diminish in value quickly, unless they're really rare. Thats why I bought it for cheap.
You won't believe the amount of cartridges and CDs from 8/16/32 bit consoles that you can find in all sorts of places. Many of them are used, but still in great condition.
