I've never had issues with my slim, but I've also never tried those unlicensed programs like CodeBreaker (or is it licensed? I'm not even sure).

My "Original" Slim croaked three and a half years into use, I have the redesigned slim, but I've only owned it for a few months, since November, IIRC, and I haven't used it much since then...

Exodus
April 27th, 2009, 02:16
Is it redesigned on the inside or the outside?

I don't know much about the differences other than my "new" PS2 Slim is silver...

The one I picked up today was silver too.

The only blacks they had were pre-owned ones. I would've preferred black myself, but I wanted it new. Oh well, the console matches with my screen

I even can't use my flash memory via Code breaker, Because Sony did stupid things with the Slim, But there is news about the new Code breaker. The Original One is Rulezzzzzzzz.

Hmm... I use my flash memory stick no problem with my slim...

Ok, How?. You said that you never tried Code breaker. and What is your flash brand?, Mine is Memorex.

Exodus
April 27th, 2009, 13:11
Well... I probably should have elaborated on my CB usage. I have a modded PS2, so maybe that's why it doesn't have trouble reading the disc. And my USB memory stick is a Lexar JumpDrive.

Ok, How?. You said that you never tried Code breaker. and What is your flash brand?, Mine is Memorex.

I have a 512K Imation memory stick and my PS2 slim and Gameshark will read it.

I do know the gameshark I own has 1 bug, if you have 2 memory cards in your PS2 it will read them before the memory stick.

If you have a memory card and a memory stick plugged into the PS2 it will not read the CD.

Keep 2 of the following you want to use installed, if you want to transfer files from the CD either a memory stick or a memory card, if you want to use the memory stick, just one memory card.

I hope that helps you out...

I have the black one, because the silver one wasn't out at the time... my tv and separate dvd player are silver though, so I'd have preferred that.

I generally don't care about the color of a console / game machine, but when they happen to match, i.e. my MP3 player, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy DS, it makes me happy.

Samor
April 28th, 2009, 20:04
that's it basically, but all my more recent equipment is black/silver, nice combo, except for the 360 , but an all black one wouldnt look good either....

The Dreamcast looks most out of place (not so much the console itself as its super-ugly controllers)

Sega just does things like that (i.e. Game Gear). They probably owned a few battery companies.

Samurai Shodown Anthology Wii

Yes Samor I suffer Neo Geo guilt...

Oddly enough they boot with no "BIOS" music

I love that Neo Geo "BIOS"

If I get a cell phone I want it to play that sound!

They canceled the PS2/PSP versions...

Yes I have the KOF/SNK Arcade/Met Slug/SS packs for the Wii...

I'm not going to discuss how many Playstation 2 Neo Geo games I own!

hm, too many? :)
I have a few, but not that many. The Neo Geo guilt feeling is completely understandable, though ;)

I have Metal Slug Anthology and NGBC (not a neogeo game, though) on PS2, Metal Slug X on PS1 and KOF99 Dream Match and KOF Evolution on Dreamcast.
Oh, and a few original Neogeo cd games which I can play via emulation: Sonic Wings 2 and 3 and Art Of Fighting 3 limited edition.

I think that's all of 'em right now.

KOF 1998 Ultimate is on my "Buy" list, I haven't heard of the 2002 one.

I don't have Metal Slug 4/5 for the XBOX, but 2 Metal Slug anthologies and eventually a PSP version is good enough for me. I'm a bigger Metal Slug 1/2/X/3 fan than 4/5/6...

I picked up some controllers today, they were all bagged together for $10.

1 Pelican Playstation Arcade stick.
1 Gamester Paystation Arcade Stick.
1 Dual Shock Playstation Controller.
2 Atari 2600 Joysticks.
1 Microsoft Mouse.
Headphones
some Playstation A/V Cable
Playstation Power Plug

Not bad for $10.

I think so... or was there still Metal Slug 1? I don't remember.

Anyway, I guess the main series really ended with 6... 7 doesn't count :p
...and really, the series had it's highlight with the third game.. the 4th one was terrible, but IMO 5 was really nice; I still have to play though 6, but I don't like the highres backgrounds in there, it messes up the graphics style of the series. Mind, it's already bad enough that the anthology on ps2 (and probably other platforms too) is upscaled like every 2D ps2 game (not to mention the screen in the PAL version not even being properly centered). PS1 Metal Slug X looks much nicer on my "old" (old style, it's only 4 years old or so) tv because it runs in its original resolution.

3 games, 1 an import from Japan that somehow got traded into a Gamestop, 2 that were just ancient games.

I liked the James Bond Everything or Nothing and wanted to play that on my Wii, apparently it isn't backwards compatible on the 360, or I would have bought the XBOX version.

I like "Arcade" Hockey as well and this was the "last Arcade" hockey I'm aware of, I would have preferred the XBOX version, but this was cheaper and available at a Gamestop. I'm unsure the XBOX version is backwards compatible anyways...

And it's holidays and I am once again back from the shops with new games.

No pics for the first 2:

First of all the glorified Benchmark Crysis, it was on special and of course everyone with a strong PC wants to check how well their PC could actually run this disaster. Plus according to people like Zedeck it's not too bad as a game so if I can get it cheap then why not.

Second is Battlefield 2142, seeing as Battlefield 1942 does not work nicely on Vista I decided to buy this game to replace it basically, plus I am sick and tired of WW2 equipment so I wanted something really modern.

Next is The Last Remnant, one thing you have to leave Squeenix is that they have good cases...this is quite possibly the best case out of all the games I have bought since I got my new PC (does not try to crack the disk when removing like others do). To my great annoyance it's a steam only game though and I am currently enjoying being jerked around by it's Installer as I type this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/DSC01892Nu.jpg

Next is another RPG, Drakensang - The Dark Eye, wanted something new and this seemed like a good option, cliche, but does the cliches well, long and contains dragons. If you want to know more then let me know and I may make a thread for it in the PC Game Screenshots section. The manual is pretty long (like 30 pages) which seems appropriate for a game that keeps on being criticized for being too long.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/SCHUMIinSA/DSC01891Nu.jpg

The last is a game I never heard of and I definitely overpaid for as it cost as much as an average new game. But it's a very very rare type of game and despite being antiquated and somewhat unheard of and very simple it seems to scratch a particular itch of mine very well and that's mech games. Basically it's a simple mech arena fighter, but it does seem to do that very well so I am very please I got it.
So anyways here's War World : Tactical Combat

Be warned the combat in Drakenslang is not 3rd/1st person hack and slash like Oblivion for instance (the back cover may make you think that), it's more like NWN2...in fact it's identical to it, so basically point and click and watch repeated (sometimes very fake) attack movements.
I am really enjoying it though.

some games I got recently..

sorry for the stock Halo 3 pic (xbox classics PAL one which I have; note that I wasn't able to find the pic with google image search but I did find it with bing oO ); I've already finished single player story mode and borrowed it to a colleague from work atm.

The others are Star Ocean (I don't play JRPG's that often but this seemed like a good opportunity to try one again) and original xbox Outrun 2 (which plays quite a bit different from the SP versions and seems to be have better lighting as well (even compared to the recently released Outrun online arcade on XBL)). It also came with a bonus soundtrack cd and I love extra goodies :)

My used Playstation 2 King of Fighters 98 Ultimate CD DID come with a cool poster that I scanned and a CD with a few videos, one of KOF XII for the PS3, and a few KOF98 Vids and some wall paper...

actually I asked at the counter if it included the "bonus" mentioned on the front cover and they said it didn't, but they thought I meant the free xbox live trial. So, I was all the more happy the soundtrack was actually included ;)

note that the xbox live trial card is even in there, but it's an expired one. Doesn't matter, I got a 1-year subscription already anyway.

The KOF extra's sound nice too. Note that the other xbox original I have is Shenmue 2, and it came with a bonus "shenmue movie" dvd... hm, do all original xbox games come with extra's or something? ;)

I'm talking about at a laundromat. I put the wash in, and have ~30 min before I put it in the dryer and then it takes ~1 hour to dry.

So a 1 1/2 hr movie would be watchable over there...

After it's dry, I just put the laundry in the bags, put the bags in my cart and haul the cart across the street. Charline sorts and puts the clothes away.

The "Neo Geo" PSP Entertainment Pack!

What is it? How about

SNK Arcade Classics 1
4GB Memory Card
School of Rock Downloadable Movie

Yup, I purchased the Rock Band pack with the Black PSP and traded it in for a SNK Arcade Classics Pack. Am I nuts? Yeah, for Neo Geo!

I really like the PSP and may even buy some downloadable games for it!

another one I know who has the pc version... such a shame it cant be played online against the 360 one, despite both using live...

quick update without pics (will try to post some later), I got ps2 Sonic Unleashed once more (because it dropped to the price I traded it in for, so no loss there, and it turned out to be so different from the 360 one that it doesn't hurt to have 2 versions), got Sega Rally for 360 (had it for pc, but I hated the framerate bug) and Project Gotham Racing 4.... also, more XBLA games. Again, pics are to follow.

Paratech
July 12th, 2009, 21:39
I'll have to consider getting Sega Rally for the 360. Are you disappointed that you purchased the 360 Sonic Unleashed or do you now like both versions?

I'd love to hear about the XBLA downloads.

There's a gaming store that lets me play my 360 games on their 360 @ $1/Hr, so until I get a 360, I plan on playing over there 2 hours a week. $2 isn't too bad of a deal.

Samor
July 12th, 2009, 21:48
I like both versions of Sonic. I'm glad I got the PS2 one again without making any losses ;)

as for XBLA: N+ (platformer), KOF98 Ultimate Match, Garou: MOTW, Street Fighter 2 HD Remix and Virtual On Oratorio Tangram.

SF2HD is the worst actually (it's really SF2 US comic book edition, but it has nice music remixes; otherwise the same old sf2 gameplay); both SNK games are great; of course you know them, I like the additions in 98 UM. Virtual ON is an updated version of the DC one I never had.
N+ is a retro-ish platformer. Its especially nice in co-op.

I uninstalled TDU until I can get a bigger hard drive, then I'll install it again. I do have it for the PSP as well even though it is a bit harder to play on the PSP.

BTW, I ordered Outrun 2 for the PSP last night from Gamestop. It will take one to two weeks before I'll see it, but I thought I'd love having that on the PSP...

Hmm, I have the PS2, XBOX, and PC versions as well, and would love to get Coast to Coast for the XBOX as well (I just have Outrun 2 for the XBOX, not 2006)

I bumped into these 5 Dreamcast and 1 Playstation games at a Goodwill, they were 1/2 off today as well. @ $1.50 a piece I decided to snag them all. Medal of Honor *Playstation* had its case break when I got home but the CD is ok...

As you can see, I picked up a Cheapo EGames pack, it reminded me of Indoor Sports for the C64 and @$2.99, it was worth snagging...

Not bad for ~$13...

I found a Dreamcast at a Goodwill around 1-2 years ago for $5. It had no A/V or Power plug, but they were easy enough to find. It was $10, but they had a 50% off sale that week. I would have purchased it for $10. I like having a backup system. I was playing those Dreamcast games on it last night for a while.

It pays to check out 2nd hand stores every week to month. I keep teasing Charline that in a while they will probably have XBOXs there since Gamestop no longer takes them in trade. LOL ;)

I know I keep running into playstation consoles. I don't even want to think what number of console I have now, probably #11 or 12... (I have one and Charline has one but we've went through a bunch of them previously...)

I'm HOOKED on Wizard of Wor for the Midway Pack, it is very addictive! It is the best version of that game I've played compared to MAME or any emulator! It really makes me happy I can battle the Wizard again, and legally at that!

My "new" game is not really new. Actually I re-bought Colin McRae Rally. Long time ago I couldn't find any way to get it to work with Windows XP and I sold it. Later I found new tricks and regretted my decision, so I got a new copy. It's working well. Not as good as it did with Windows 98, but I'm still happy with it.

Offtopic: This is not a tech-related thread, but here are some notes for those who have abandoned CMR they couldn't get it work with XP:

1. Get a 1.05 update and XP-fix here (http://mastertronic.com/support.asp?pid=222#Downloads).
2. Update the game.
3. Use Windows 98/ME compatibility mode for Rally.exe.
4. Launch the game. If nothing happens, disable the compatibility mode and install XP-fix.
6. Now the game should run properly.
7. If the game crashes during the drive, update your video card drivers.

Sidenote for nVIDIA users who suffer in-game crashes: Use Forceware 186.18 and pick Permedia 2 as your 3D-device from the game options.

These were cheap, but I'd suggest avoiding them...

Mozaki Blocks Deluxe has the wrong serial code and even that is hidden in the crappy cardboard CD case, and the Golf game was missing the serial number and didn't even let me try it.

Mumbo Jumbo fixed it for me. I can play all the games now.

Paratech

An oldie but a goodie. I own another copy but lost the serial code. Dummy me went and tried a crack on the old version and trojaned Internet Explorer, yeah great. That was a long time ago, lesson learned.

Most Wanted is the most recent game in the series that I have... I lost interest after it; Carbon wasn't so good, and I didn't really like the games that came out after that one either.

ive been playing the XBLA version a lot recently, but also the original outrun 2 and I have coast to coast on ps2.

Coast to Coast being the best deal overall since it contains both the Outrun 2 and Outrun 2 SP stages.

The XBLA version is just Outrun 2SP (or maybe Outrun 2 SP SDX; either way, it has some small visual improvements aside from the resolution just being upped).

Sonic Spinball, F-Zero, Ghosts 'n Goblins, and Conker's Bad Fur Day are all really good games. On the last one, while it's certainly more adult than all the other Rare games, it's still a really really good platformer, you should give it a try. Just don't play around children.

That's because they incorrectly entered the score from PSM3 Magazine UK. It should be a solid 8.

Well that could be the case if him having a guitar means you need one two which means you would first have to be a Guitar Hero fan or something before you can get or at least enjoy this game...or fork out a lot of extra cash just to get the controller for this one game....

this is just speculation though as I don't know how the came plays and as it's on PS3 and not PC I can't be bothered to find out....just saying I can potentially understand where koko comes from.

Brütal Legend is simply a love it or hate it game. It leans heavily on the world of heavy metal and all its stereotypes. It's a rather western concept and I can understand if in some cultures a game like this simply doesn't work, it's too unconventional. Last time I checked, Koko wasn't a heavy metal fan, so in terms of fan service he won't appreciate the artwork and music. What's left is a game with humor that might lose a bit of its punch, and a hack and slash gameplay that can be had elsewhere as well.

Well, the character just uses a guitar as a weapon in-game, you don't have to buy anything, but, as Cid said below, it's geared towards the western world and you need an interest in rock or metal to get all the jokes. I thought Koko didn't like it just because the main character uses a guitar, because that's all he said :p. If he doesn't like the characters, gameplay, or concept as a whole AFTER PLAYING THE DEMO, then he's definitely entitled to his opinion.

The 60GB NTSC version has hardware BC. The 60GB PAL version has software BC. If you try to play PS2 games on the PAL version, expect 1/3 of the games to be unplayable. With the NTSC version the only game that you have to worry about is Final Fantasy 11... I'm pretty sure you don't care if that game is unplayable. In fact, I'd say 99.999% of the world's entire population doesn't care.

as far as that's concerned, despite obvious warnings I still went for KOFXII, and yes, I already traded it in as well... I don't even think it'd be worth it at a budget price. I got some achievements out of it because it was way too easy to beat the entire game with one character (regardless the difficulty level, which didn't seem to change anyway) but that got boring too so I didn't complete it.

I'll review it later, but from the main menu you go to offline mode and the first option is the T6 Arcade mode. I also turned off motion blur it does indeed make the resolution increase from 1024x576 to 1365x768 it looked better. The ps3 version adds 2x MSAA if you turn off motion blur but resolution stays the same.

T5 has a final boss and endings......its the standard 8 battle. T6 has a final boss and endings, if you play campaign mode and beat 2 levels you unlock arena. Arena has rankings from beginner to tekken lord. I just tried it 3 battles and at the final boss which is odd, guess I should play more of it before commenting on it. I did discover one nice thing if you plug in a arcade stick the game detects it so it has the same controls as the arcade version
