>Allright, lets see your desktops!
I wonder if I was the only one who found the title of this thread a wee bit perverse.

Anywho, after a bit of cleanup, here's mine. Note that it's usually a good deal clearer and all, but I shrank the pic so it'd fit a bit better within the confines of the board. Hehe, go figure, I'm playing Game Boy while posting to a PSX-related board ;) Oh well, I guess the emulation theme still fits.

The wallpaper I use on my desktop won't show up in a screenshot because I use a program called Drempels which was made by Ryan Geiss(creator of the Geiss winamp plug). Drempels streches and morphes your desktop image in interesting ways. If anyone is interested go here: http://www.geisswerks.com

I hardly place any shortcuts on my desktop. I try to keep my files organised and in an easy to manage manner. Besides i know all the shortcuts keys to my files, that and i let Macro Magic to my tedious and lenghty works for me. :D . I just hate to see a cluttered up desktop. Anyhow here are the applications i i usually use and you can see from my startup menu how much organised I am lol :heh:

CDBuRnOuT

Both of those suck, and so does WindowBlinds...

Skinning is only good if implemented properly, these tools do not do such a thing...

If you REALLY want to change Windows, try LiteStep (http://www.litestep.net), a replacement shell for Win32..

ice2hot
May 25th, 2001, 12:08

cluthu
May 25th, 2001, 13:35
You can download Windowblinds from http://www.stardock.com/. But, as CDBuRnOuT also mentioned, it's a major resource hog. I've tried it on any number of computers and it always manages to make everything tremendously slower. Of course, it is a "personal" computer and you're free to do whatever you wish with it, eh?

well i tried using litestep ...its a nice program.. i also used talisman as well.. talisman and litestep both of them changes the shell of windows to give a different outlook .. but litestep is conparatively a bit difficult to handle. I dont know maybe i used the wrong themes in the beginig. talisman in the other hand is compatratively user friendly and is a whole lot easier to use... i kept on getting DLL errors and then i had to use my startup disk go to my system.ini and change my shell manually back to explorer..
even then thanks again CD and hey can u recommenf me any good themes and can u also tell me which theme are u using by the way and that the theme has a very configurable step.rc file ...thanksssssssssss

The last time i updated my black ice defender program i went to grc.com to check the penetrability status of my firewall and what it showed me that it was in-pentreable well no computer is no matter how high the security measure that u have taken.. I didn't check with grc.com for at least month so i missed that article... As it mentioned that black ice was completly useless so it seems... Its a good thing that i had zone alarm running as well along with norton internet security and Xnet-stat 3 for monitoring my ports for suspicious activities. I know I know, you must be thinking that why the hell is this guy being so paranoid. Well im not and I have my reasons due to some problems which i'm facing at the moment which invokde me to take these measures.
One thing which is of grave concern or it might not be is the development of the software by the name of Black Angel . I was wondering what effect it would bring to the servers and the home based PC's . It might cause havoc or it just might not. Who knows, only time itself shall provide the answer to the question ...

well i guess internet are not so 'secured' place anymore, specially when Windows XP out later. We're doomed when surfing :eyes:

ice2hot
June 7th, 2001, 11:19
But if u constantly monitor your activities i don't think you should have a problem. One more thing as long as you dont open a file which you aren't sure of you would be safe.

Just edit the post, upload your picture to your homesite webspace or a free website provider and edit to link to point to there as a IMG.

It really is annoying that when it loads this page up the computer tries to access your pic on the A:\ drive and i hear the drive spin looking for a disk.

Nahh... WinXP sucks

its 'Raw Socket' technology makes you even more vulnerable than when you used to be with Win98. XP sucks. Stick with Win2K.

Please be more careful before bashing something. Raw Sockets are present in Windows 2000 (and Linux, MacOS X...), the main security issue being discussed on is that with WinXP this technology will also be available to home users, who are unlikely to keep their system up-to-date with security fixes. Here's a quote from ZDNet:

"Unlike Windows 2000, where Gibson claims raw sockets were first fully implemented, Windows XP--which ships on 25 October this year--will be run by home PC users who will be less inclined and/or able to maintain the security of their system and keep up with software patches. "

I personally dont like windows XP because of the data they collect from you... How often do you change your system? If you do it as often as i do, you will end up calling microsoft every month or so explaining to them why you did so, and trying to conivice them that you did not steal thier OS... I dont like the "you have to give us personal information and tell us your buying trends to use or OS" appoach... I am sticking with win2k untill a hak comes out.. Which should be not too far off from when its released...

Mandatory registration sucks monkey balls...

A very knowledgable friend of mine said he knows that crack already exists. I think he said it was a group from Germany that made it. Well there may be more than one. He said they're not releasing it till XP is public release so that Microsoft doesn't counter their crack before it has a chance to be used. I think its funny how companies like Microsoft go way out of their way stop piracy, but someone always comes oout with a crack before it even matters.
