I bought this game about two weeks ago and even though I finished it in 3 days (I played a lot each day), I still go back to it from time to time to see some of it's best pre-scripted moments.

This game was made in 2008 and was based on the award winning Unreal Engine 3 with the incorporation of physics and ragdoll geometry.

Overview

This game is sort of a remake of the original Turok that came out in the early years on the 21st century...:lol::lol:...I mean 2001-2002.
If any of you are familiar with the title from 2001, you can relax because this remake was a pretty good job, even though the scores weren't very high.
As you can expect, the visuals are stunning, with the landscape being either a lush jungle with huge trees, ponds, rivers and waterfalls with exquisite details, all that you might expect from a game based on the UT3 engine.
In the game you play the protagonist who goes by the odd name Turok (what a shock, the same name as in the title), a sort of triple-agent employed by the army.
The game kicks off from the point where you are on a large military space ship enroute to an unknown planet to capture a brutal terrorist known as Kane and bring him back to earth to pay for his crimes against humanity.
You and your team wake up for cryo-stasis and suit up.
You walk around the ship until you come across a weapons officer who says that you should get some fire pactice before they departe to the surface.
As you are about to pick up the gun, the "incoming missile" alarm is sounded and moments later the ship is hit and starts breaking apart.
The automated emergency systems lock you and several others in a compartment while you fall down through the atmosphere and hit the ground.
When you come to your senses you escape with the only other surviver from your compartment from the burning wreck.
You are immediately encountered by a scenery of a huge vally, stretching as far as the eye can see.
As you and your friend keep going, heading towards the smoke on the horizon where you hope you'll find more survivers, he is jumped by a raptor and draged into the dense vegetation screaming.
With no one to help you, and no weapons at your disposal, will you be able to survive the hostile, dinosaur infested land?
Will you be able to find more survivers?
And will you be able to finish the mission you were sent out to do in the first place?
There is only one rule in this nightmare - Dinosaurs eat meat, you are meat, run away!!!

Engine

As I've already said, the game was based on a modified version of the Unreal Engine 3.
The game has incorporated physics that manifest themselves in the environment's reaction to explosions, movement and large objects.
You can make people fly by detonating grenades next to them and pin enemies to walls by shooting them with the bow.
Other than this there isn't much to say that people haven't already seen and experienced playing UT3 and Gears of War.

Gameplay

The gameplay itself is just like any other FPS gameplay - you walk around, shoot bad guys and avoid being blown to pieces by and rpg.
The game is scripted, so there is not much freedom when it comes to doing missions in different ways.
There are however some fun moments and some realistic ones too.
You are only allowed to carry four weapons at a time, two of which are already pre-designated as the combat knife and the bow & arrows (in the progress of the game it turns out that you have native-american blood running thriugh your veins).
The other too slots however are highly diversive and changable.
You can pick up anything ranging from a pistol to a rocket launcher, but the fun doesn't stop there.
If you have picked up a pistol and then came across another one, onstead of just picking up its ammo, you can dual wield it and shoot from two pistols.
When dual wielding weapons, you shoot the left and the right by clicking the left and the right mouse buttons respectively.
You can also hold both buttons to fire from both weapons at the same time.
The dual wielding however doesn't stop there - you can have two pistols, a pistol and a sub-machine gun, two sub-machine guns, a pistol and a sticky bomb launcher, a sub-machine gun and a sticky bomb launcher, a pistol and a shotgun, and so on.
Each weapon also has a secondary mode.
The pistol has a silencer, the SMG has a silencer, the shotgun can shoot a flare, the rocket launcher extends a laser tracking monitor making his missiles into a fire-and-forget type, and so on.
There are also some fun things you can do with the shotgun flare.
While its main use was to signal air support for help or luring the enemy into a trap, in this game you can use it as a weapon.
The raptors and othe predators are attrackted to meat, but are even more attrackted to bright lights.
If there are meat eaters nearby and you have too many enemy soldiers to fight off, you can hit one of them with a flare and watch the dinosaurs attack him and his friends, leaving you with a show worthy of getting popcorn.
The AI of the dinosaurs is pretty straight forward - they see you and charge in order to knock down to the ground and eat you.
However, being inspired by the universe of the Jurrasic Park films, where the raptors are portraied as animals with so signs of intelligence, they are always in groups and will sometimes disengage you in order to flank your position and attack from an unguarded direction.
The AI of the human soldiers however is a whole different ballgame.
If the difficulty level is set to "Intence", the human soldiers will flank you, shoot from cover, throw grenades if you stop just for one second, crouch to become less visible in high grass and even perform acrobatic manuvers to get to cover before you hit them.
They will use diversion tactics to avoid your fire, call for others to tell them where you are and pretty much make your life a living hell.
There is another thing.
Throughout the game you will encounter several times a T-Rex.
When you see it, run!!!
It can't be killed or even hurt.
Direct hits from the rocket launcher are like mosquito bites for it.

To sum it all up, it is a first person shooter set in a world with man eating dinosaurs and terrorists with advanced field training, hightech weapons and are ready to give their lives for their leader.

Hope you've found this review helpful.
This is my second review.
I'll be posting more reviews soon.

try using an external host like xs.to or something. other than that, a good review. i wasn't aware of the fact it was a remake since i thought it was just going to be another turok game but made in a different style to the old ones.

Personally, I hated this game. After playing this game for 15 minutes, I put it down and started playing Turok: Evolution instead. Ever since Acclaim was taken out of the picture, it's never been the same (for worse). It doesn't feel like Turok at all. I hated the controls, combat system, HUD, graphics, gameplay, everything! It was absolutely horrible!

Btw, Turok: Evolution was released in 2002, not 2001. Also, Turok has been around since the 90's. I own the very first Turok Dinosaur Hunter for the PC (1997) and Turok has had Nintendo Gameboy and N64 games as well. Turok has had a rich history of being a great Dino-Hunter, but this game has completely ruined the Turok experience for me. Great review, but this is the greatest gaming disappointment that has ever happened to me.

Well, the game is actually nice and it has some cool moments.
But it is a bit worse than the last ones because the head company was Touchstone, you know, from all the movies you see in the theater like Wild Hogs, The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, Mr 3000,......
But the thing is that except for Warner Bros. there aren't any movie companies that make good games, but this one is still pretty nice (not as nice as F.E.A.R from WB).

Wtf...3 claws on the "arms"? That's an Allosaurus.... look at the 2nd and last pics you posted of the "T-Rex". Pic 3 is definitely a T-Rex though.

This game needs some AA BAD...I can't stand it when limbs and bodies are pointy.

Also when were the raptors in Jurassic Park stupid? Sure they ran straight into that oven or whatever it was...but other than that they were the most intelligent in the movies.

Anyways this game aint my cup of soup...

Well, they gave him three fingers so he could show you the middle finger just before he eats you up like a cookie.
As for AA, all the screens I've posted are at 0xAA and 0xAF, so naturally they look a bit crappy.
And plus this is an alien world, what do you care if the T-Rex has 3 claws instead of 2.
Just be happy they didn't give him a pair of rocket launchers and a bigass cigar, like in Serious Sam 2.

Woah, I wasn't impressed by the initial reviews, but now you've wettened my appetite for some alternative FPS fodder. Seems like it can be pretty intense with such big monsters running at you. Maybe a budget bin candidate. Thanks for the review and screenshots :thumb:
