Rumble gamepads...

What are the best rumble pads for use with epsxe? Which are the most compatible and seem to work with the epsxe the best and with the least amount of hassle? Thanks, folks!

Lots of people here, me included, use a Logitech WingMan Rumble Pad and it seems to work great. It’s about the closest I've got to the real thing on my PC.

If ur willing to do a little bit of hassle, it's very possible to connect a rule psx dual shock pad to your pc through the parallel port....

I use Logitech Wingman Rumblepad. No hassles, easy installation, and up to 150% rumble!!! Plus, you can plug it in at anytime when you want to play. Otherwise, as unknown4x said, use directpadpro found at www.ziplabel.com and make it yourself.

I use this pad myself and have only 2 major complaints

#1 - no 'select' key (no button to config as 'select')

#2 - only 1 L/R button per side (yes i know you can get around this as it has 6 normal buttons whereas a psx controller has only 4)

i have the dpadpro hookup for my dual shock pad and id recommend it. the only problem is with the rumble.. its a little confusing to configure on epsxe and there isnt really a way to modify how strong it rumbles in the software.
but you do have full analog support and all the buttons including the L3 and R3 buttons

I've used the HammerHead FX (actually, two of them) with no problems...with the exception that (at least with me, I have heavy traffic on them) they fall apart easily. One's left stick has apparently lost a spring, and one of the motors is rolling around inside, and on the other, the hat on top of the stick came off, creating a not-so-comfortable grip.:mad:

those looked pretty nice but dont they require batteries?
i set my adapter up so i could use a 9v battery when im on the go (laptop) or use an ac adapter with the same type of connector.
if you don't want to build an adapter tho, id suggest going with the logitec pad..

Yeah, they want batteries AAA batteries, though there IS a DC port (4.5V, 800 mA) port on it, if you REALLY hate batteries...though I don't see that as a great solution. Personally, the batteries I've been using have lasted several months, so I don't see the big prob

I use the PSX gamepad Adaptor (Parallel, w. DPadPro 5.0) too, I get all Power (5V and 9V) from my PC, I don't need any Batteries or Adaptors. But I can't use everything in ePSXe, I can only use digital or analog left / right. If I try to set the driver to POV or 6-axis, ePSXe doesn't work with it (just the buttons work), rumble doesn't work at all in ePSXe. can anybody help me????:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

I have the same prob with my hammerhead fx. mine has the axis hold-thingy busted off AND that same axis doesn't work in all the positions correctly. it's pretty good though as you can change the x/y axis to the second analog stick... but still, it's not too comfortable. I have the adapter thingy for the force feedback. works great!

umm..you need an extra power source in order to get the thing to rumble. are you sure you made your adapter according to the analog schematics? does the 6 axis or rumble work in pc games?

it works fine for me, but you need to play around with the epsxe rumble settings a lot..

I use the Logitec Rumble pad and, to me it is the best one I've found so far. I tried the Thrustmaster Pad, but I couldn't claibrate it (it ALWAYS pulled to the right) and the rumble was so weak as to be barely noticeable. If anyone who has a Thrustmaster and has it work correctly, could enlighten me on how to set it up, then I might give it a try again. Thanks.

How do you configure the right stick for ePSXe with the Logitech Wingman Rumblepad. There's no reaction when I try to configure it. Is it because the real PSX doesn't use the right stick? I just don't understand.

I had that same problem and had to modify the registry to get it to work. There is a line in the registry under ePSXe for the analog sticks. Each axis is represented by a number, 1-6 or something. With some trial and error I was able to get it working.

This is what I ended up with and the sticks work perfectly.

I don't know how you guys can stand vibrating joysticks. Granted they did some interesting stuff im MGS with them, but my hands start going numb after several hours of use. I feel like I'm getting arthritis or something.

Oh well, I guess I shouldn't be playing games for several hours straight anyway. ;)

I have built the adaptor after the shematic in the driver, and I have the extra power to use dual shock. I have got it to work in Midtown Madness 2, when I select "Gamepad" as controller (with Force Feedback), it doesn't work. When I reselect "Joystick" as controller while playing the game, the rumble starts, but doesn't stops, till I reselect the "Gamepad", but then there is no rumble again :mad: :mad:. I have got the 6-axis function work in ePSXe too, for setting analog sticks, I must turn analog on my gamepad on. For setting the digital-cross I must turn the analog mode on my gamepad off, is this ok, or must it work, with analog-mode on to configure everything? (sorry for my "not so good" english :D). Could it be the problem, cause I use the Sony DualShock 2 gamepad for PS2?

if it doesnt work in a pc game is a sign of something being wrong. i havent heard of any problems really of using the ps2 pad but that analog button thing is a bug in the dpadpro drivers themselves..
the constant rumble could mean that the dpadpro properties arent set up correctly or that you might have wires crossing somewhere. id sugget you check out the documents that came with the drivers to see if you can find where the problem is..

Thanks for your help, but I have no lines crossed or so, I have checked that many times. I have used this shematic: http://www.ziplabel.com/dpadpro/psx.gif. And it can't be the problem, that I don't get the 5V from the parallel port, I get it directly from my PC, cause I use the two-player interface, and my parallel port doesn't give enough power to feed two pads. So I let the part with the diodes away. But could you give me some advises to configure the driver?

I personally like gravis controllers

The gravis eliminator after shock has all the buttons a playstation controller has (except for the L3 and L4) the lay out is a little different than the PS controller

its also highly costomizable win 98 (using the included software)
it is also supported in win 2000 but lacks the packaged software and rumble (they are working on it up at www.gravis.com)

it cost about 30 US dollars

if thats too expensive, for about half that, there is the gravis game pad pro (i told you i like gravis controllers :D ) it utilizes the same software and it looks exactly like a non-dual shock PS controller
it also lacks rumble

Tidus, if you modify the registry and you don't know what you're doing, you could trash your whole OS and have to reinstall. Do not, I repeat, do not mess with or try to edit your registry :eek: unless you know exactally what you are doing (which I don't so I don't mess with it). This advice was given to me buy a very good friend who is a programmer and knows windows inside and out.
Lastly, I'm glad you got the pad to work. Happy gaming.

Ok, I have been watching this thread mainly because I like epsxe and I have a logitech wingman rumble pad. I did what the previous post said to use the registry to make the right analog stick work and it did. However, my question is does epsxe detect your logitech rumble pad as a dual shock analog pad or do you have to do something to get it to recognize it. Also, how can you make the thing 'rumble' in epsxe? An answer to this problem of mine is greatly appreciated.

to make it rumble, you gotta select rumble type directx and then motor types of constant if you select sine, it'l start rumbling but never stop (at least thats what happened on my controller).

Also, you have to choose digital/analog option in the top-right hand side of the window. Or you could just press F5 in the game. If the game doesn't support analog (FF7, for example) then the gamepad won't work at all in analog mode and you'll have to press F5 to get it to work.
