Generally if I'm in the market for a new mobo (which tends to happen every two or four years) I'll get something that supports my processor's form factor and whatever the protocols/standards I imagine I'll have to support (say 4x AGP or the second revision of USB). So, in the hopes that this will keep me from rambling and boring you all to death, I'll use any brand of mobo so long as it has decent support of my processor & add-ons and a BIOS that's updated reasonably often.

Right now I'm using an Abit BE6-II rev. 2 for my Slot 1 and a KT7 for the 370.

By the way, "Celeron, Duron" and such aren't motherboard types, they're types of processors. The motherboards that support them would be classified as being Slot 370 or Slot 1 for Intel and :ponders: something else for AMD. As I don't have an AMD (yet) I've forgotten their numbering scheme.

This topic is surely about Motherboards......!
So the best boards out there are none,ech one seems to be the same.I am using an Acorb Motherboard that has the chipsets of Intel BX2 and Via chipsets....!So my work is going on pretty well..
I think Intel boards are good......!

Well When we talk about processors there is no comparison between AMD and Intel.AMB has got a bit 3d support in it,While Intel has got something else.The Pentium IV processors are surely the Best out there.

Its seems more like cpus to me. BTW I'm a dedicated Intel hater.

Soyo for me. FIC is also quite good. Running an Athlon T-Bird 1.2ghz processor on a Soyo SY-K7VTA Pro motherboard. Works great.

MicroStar Inc.(MSI) makes good boards with nice big transistors. That's what I have. I have a friend, though, that knows a whole hell of alot more about computers than I do and he practically swears by A-bit. I think he said that A-bits support Overclocking the best. Anyway I have a Celeron 600 processor thats overclocked to 900. I don't think that celerons can really compare with some other processors like AMD or Pentium4 in terms of speed and multi media instruction set such as MMX. I too lazy to do benchmarks or whatever to compare though.

i had an Asus A7V with Atlhon TB and i never had a problem..
so, i think that's the best MB, and Atlhon the best Cpu

I agree but there are newer AMD CPU's out that have a 266 buss compared to the 200 so ya for the 200 buss cpu A7V is the best but if your getting a 266 buss CPU go for the Asus one that suports it.

IM not upgrading my CPU/MOBO till the new 64 bit ones come out.

You do realize those are meant predominately for server farms and the such, right? It's likely that they'll carry a price tag that's more geared towards an IT/business budget. In fact, I've heard that going the IA-64 route will necessitate some major hardware changes. Though I certainly can't decide your buying decisions for you, it'd probably be a good idea to stick with standard 32 bit arch for the forseeable future.

AMD's x86-64 seems like a more viable option than Intel's IA-64..

I agree...Intel is losing their marketing against AMD....i think the people is discovering Amd now and buying pcs with that cpu.
I work with technical support and i know what i'm talking about...

One of the lawfirms that i have worked with in the past bought an IA-64 soultuion from intel. You really do not have to worry about anyting, the come complete... Unfortunatly, i was only allowed to set it up, and not take it apart like i wanted... But i think i have seen a few of the processor for sale at frys....

Well, about switching to AMD... of about the 30 diffrent companies i work for, none of them have gone with AMD systems... Intel may be loosing marketing ground, but there processors are reliable as they get. Especally when mixed with intel chipsets...

Agrh, brings me back to my k6-3 500 on a via 503+ mobo.. pure hell.. But now via chipsets are quite good... Had one other bad experice with AMD when i bought a duron 800. After about 2 weeks the chip just cracked... Cant tell why, ran about 35 degrees celcus.. made me go back to intel...

Anyways, AMD cpu's are really good. No doubt about that, but intel cpus, in my experice, are much more stable and reliable...
