GTA IV on the PC should be incredible... Let's just hope they left the doors wide open for modders. IMO that's the biggest factor drawing people to the PC over the consoles in GTA's case.

Yay! We'll be able to avoid the problems that the game had on consoles and instead have NEW problems specifically related to PCs ;).

I'm happy to see it coming to PC, I hope they do a good job on the port. I'll finally see if all the hype was really worth it for myself.
(I always liked the GTA games. Not a HUGE fan like some people are, but always liked the game nevertheless)

wait, the ffxIII news is NOT some joke?
It wasn't a joke, more a misunderstanding of words. Although Square's denial afterward is of course to be taken with a grain of salt, seeing as to how once they said it would be ps3 only. We'll have to wait, see and prey at our best though to see a PC release :).

Glad to see GTA IV come to PC, but it wasn't that much of a surprise. Probably going to be somewhere in the months before x-mas.

ALL games are developed on PC's (or Mac's ... I guess). I fail to see why FFXIII would be any different than other FF games that were console bound only because we know the name of the development tools.

maybe square wants to reach wider markets, me too I think they got enough of ps3 AND xbox360, but things are moving, if another ff has to come to pc it will problably be XIII because everyone know on next ones there will be more solid exclusives, I think

Not all games are developed on PC's. If anything is true, all games are developed on workstations, which are... not PC's. :p Ever seen a dual-Cell blade workstation with 32GB of XDRAM and all those fancy things? Such computers are not only for servers.

true, but since ports are the main dish being served it mainly shows in higher resolutions, higher AA/AF settings and sometimes improved texture detail.

Cid Highwind
August 5th, 2008, 12:42
Most improved texture detail comes from the AF still, I think. You'll still be running around, wondering why most things look so blurry at these full HD resolutions.

sure hope dat ffiii comes out a nice port into the pc, as well as gta iv, but i'm more afraid of the square ports than rockstar's, i must say.
gta iv in the ps3 looks very nice, but sometimes, when big explosions and stuff like that happen, you can notice a little slowdown in fps. i'm confident that the pc version, on capable hardware, will do much better, even without hd-ready screens.

Well it was to be expected that GTA 4 would come out on PC because even with piracy Rockstar is still making a lot of cash with the PC versions.
I think for many of us it will be time to upgrade GFX card :) a nice 55nm GTX 260 for under 200 € and I'll be happy. PC versions should also have a lot less bugs and framerate problems than the console counterpart.

The first details on the Grand Theft Auto 4 PC port are drifting in from the Leipzig Games Convention.

A new replay editor will allow players to edit and save the last 30 seconds of gameplay. Filters, cutting, and camera angles will be supported. The separate 30-second clips can then be edited together into a longer work using the "montage editor." The complete work can then be shared on the Rockstar Social Club.

The game will also receive some changes to its multiplayer modes. Though few details have been released on this point, it was hinted that the overall player count--Grand Theft Auto 4 supported 16 player servers--may be increased for the PC edition. Confirmed are a robust set of server filters, which will enable users to find matches with specific settings much easier.

The graphics engine has also been improved, with more realistic lighting and a higher level of character and environment detail, according to Eurogamer. Resolutions up to 2560x1600 will be supported.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is set to hit PC on November 18.

Of course, I think it's 28" or some very luxurous 26" perhaps. As for videocards, I think the current high end will be up for it (Radeon 4870 or crossfire, and GTX260 or higher, and SLI systems). Let's hope it will be a smooth port that shows that it is possible ;)

Meh, for PC gaming there is this HUGE gap between the ATi X1950Pro / 8600GT level, and the 3850. If you're on a budget and don't want the latest and greatest I think you still can't go wrong with that one. Of course it's not as fast as a 4870, but it is a helluva lot faster than an 8600GT, and shouldn't be much more expensive. If I were redlofredlof I would at least look into this one, don't be blinded by nVidia's marketing. :)

improved graphics? and who says consoles are more powerful these days :D
Meh, consoles are nice but most games are highly unoptimized anyway, I think there's much more potential. The PS2 looked like arse as well in the beginning, half the resolution of the Dreamcast, jaggies, and the textures looked like PS1 with bilinear filtering applied... Just put it against the marvels that are MGS3 and God of War. Current consoles will see the same evolution, it just takes much more time, and I think all the multiplatform developing won't help at all this time around.

Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if in this case "improved graphics" means you can play it at a higher resolution. Though I wouldn't mind if they can put in higher resolution textures, because those are usually the most bothering in console conversions.

Grand Theft Auto IV: Here Are GTA IV PC's Recommended System Requirements (http://kotaku.com/5049326/here-are-gta-iv-pcs-recommended-system-requirements)

Rockstar managed to get some free publicity again, they announced the recommended system requirements. They're pathetic, because it's nothing we didn't know.

CPU: Dual core
RAM: 2GB
GPU: 512 MB Shader model 3
HDD: 18GB

So yeah, they just wanted to remind us that it's coming, rather than informing us, without any models there's nothing that I couldn't have told you a couple of months ago... The HDD space needed is enormous though.

Cid Highwind
September 14th, 2008, 19:24
I guess two dual layer DVD's, either that or heavy compression on disk, so they'll need to install everything and the only thing you'll use the disc for is a CD check. With a game relying on streaming that much, I can understand it that they want everything on the harddrive to make performance as good as possible. It's a shame for those who want to install it on their Raptors though :p

Holy smokes 18gb. Must be that large in order for the game to look great at over 2500x1600 or whatever the massive resolution is.

Makes me think that if games such as Monkey Island or Full Throttle were 18gb in size it would take about 2 years to finish the game.

For those who played the game on Ps3 and 360 y do u think the size of the game is so much? Is it the level of details or is the city that big.

Well GTA has always had one of the largest free roaming environments of any game...add to that what we have come to expect graphics wise...and you get 18GB.

This is what I absolutely adore about GTA games, nothing else offers so much freedom that you can roam around the city or country-side fooling around with stunt planes, trains and what not. All the other games never give you much of a chance to really fool around freely without the danger of being killed.

I hope the driving experience in GTA IV is a little bit better, because I wasn't at all satisfied with the one in SA, sheesh! You couldn't even corner a sports car at high speed without flipping over like 20 times! And I'm not even talking about the 4x4s and monster trucks!

Oh Shadow Breaker "you're treading the toes of moderators here" Posting duplicate threads is against forum rules and counts as spam.

Anyways, I'm a little confused about the GTA naming scheme here, why do some people call (or used to call) GTA-VC GTA4 and they would also refer GTA-SA as GTA5 and GTA-LC as GTS6:???:

Thanakil
September 15th, 2008, 22:05
Because these people didn't take into account how all those games were simply "extension" (in a way) to GTA3. While they weren't new games, Rockstar didn't see them as actual sequels (if I can put it that way) and instead as additions.

They are stand-alone games and all, and could be possibly seen as GTA4/GTA5 and all, but they aren't... That's all.

---

Shadow Breaker :
Your link has nothing to do with the thread, and you're just posting it a lot. Posting a link in your post that has nothing to do with the actual content of the post or of the thread is just... Weird, and some people may see it as spam.

Posting it in your signature wouldn't be as bad, since people won't associate the link as possibly being related to the thread.
Right now it just feels like you're trying to lure more people to go to your thread.
People may be tricked into thinking that the link is somewhat relevant to the discussion (even if the name should give it away, but people can be naive, obviously, which is why spam exist) and then go there because of it.

That's pretty much the different between shoving your link in every post you make, or simply putting it in your signature.
At least in your signature, people know that it has nothing to do with the actual thread, and can visit it only if it actually interest them, not by "accident".
I don't know if posting it all the time actually count as spam, but posting it in your signature is the easiest way anyway. Not only will it remove any doubts, but you'll be saving time... (except if you are, in fact, trying to trick people on purpose, in which case... Baaaad poster, baaaaadddd x_x)

It will be interesting to see how load times will affect the PC version. If they can keep them at the same speed as the 360 and PS3 then that will be rather impressive.

GTA IV's driving is... well... different. The cars actually have a lot of weight to them which feels weird at first... but after a while you definitely get a feel for it and its much more satisfying when you do anything driving related...

Well I only have a lowly 256 MB video card, so I can't run it, but I really don't play the GTA 3/VC/SA I already own. I won't be missing anything.

Maybe next year I'll get a 360, even then this game isn't high on my list of priorities...

Ur like the fox who said the grapes were sour when he couldn't get to them.

Btw why is the game not announced for Pc on rockstargames.com

Meh i dont mind the size of it even if they relase it on 2 DVD DL
At least downloding it from a torrent will be hard xD

slightly off topic does anyone know if silent hill 5 will be released on pc later this year?

there is no official word that is was coming to pc lately and there is no official release date either, and it actually seems it may not be released, still it got pretty bad reviews which i agree with, really it is a disappointment heck if the developers fix all the issues in alone in the dark game with a patch they promised to release then alone in the dark is the superior game, but right now they are equal footing

Ya. That's true. But i saw a trailer of GTA 4, and i think there is less brightness. The city is a little dark.

the trailer is the console version not pc, as for the brightness that can be changed so the guy who made the trailer can choose whatever brightness they want

also the game is currently larger than 20 gigs because of the additional content for the pc also consider that the textures is at much higher resolution when compared to the console version so no more console based textures, plus it will have improved multiplayer like more players in a single game, larger maps can be arranged and more multiplayer modes

about the question of loading times, systems with that match the recommended specs will experience pretty much identical loading to the console versions, this of course depending on the detail level, still this loading was experienced on medium detail level which is significantly higher detail level than the consoles

also currently the game runs a little slower than assassins creed, so if you can run that game smoothly then you should be able to run gta iv

if you guys ask where i know this info on the pc one, i know a guy who is currently beta testing it and there is no point to leak it since the beta releases have a strong drm protection and anyways last time i played it (which was a month ago) it was as buggy as assassins creed prerelease (the one that crashes on jerusalem and yes there is a part of gta iv that crashes as well)
