Hi!

Before you go away and think 'NOOB' I am only 13 and I'm suprised I've even managed to get this far with setting everything up for PCSX2.

My problem is simple, I have set everything up correctly and it is running. But I can't get it to read the disc I've put into my CD drive. It does recognise the disc and I can view it's contents but it won't play on the PCSX application.

If you need to know my specs are;

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Pentium Dual Core
2GB Ram
140GB Hard Drive, (plenty of room of course )

Please help me because I've bothered to actually get this far without begging for roms helplessly, or annoying all the clever people hear about my problems and I've tried looking online and I really am clueless.

Thanks for your valuable time!

Make sure you go to Configuration and then Cdvdrom and select

CDVDnull Driver 0.6.0

Or any other plugin that doesnt have to do with iso that might be that problem.

run the bug reporter and post the results in this thread. Bug reporter in my signature.

I'm thinking you need to get swap magic to dump your bios.

I think you should use the P.E.Op.S. CDVD plugin, and in the plugin config drive drop down menu select your cd/dvd drive letter, then File -> Run CD/DVD.

or you can rip your disc to an iso... might be easier that way....

btw. you're not using a laptop are you?

13? LOL You just made my day. ^_^
Well, make an image of your CD using Alcohol 120% for instance. PCSX2 plays images way too better. Then use Linuzappz Iso CDVD plugin to load the ISO. Make sure ISO isn't loaded in Alcohol's virtual drive, or any other virtual drive, because then PCSX2 will not be able to run it.
And for your exact problem, perhaps you didn't set the drive letter in the plugin to the one your CD is in. What game are you trying to play?

@ Grimlord; Thanks! I am a bit of a tech boffin, but yeah... *shucks* :emb:

Not being arrogant or nothing, I have done all of these things. Got the right plugins enabled and got Erom, Rom 1 and Rom 2. I've got European BIOS v.2.00 enabled.

I have tried many discs including Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Sims 2, Age Of Empire II, Lord of the Rings; Third Age and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4. I can't imagine all of these games failing when I've already checked compatibility list.

I can only think of one thing. Are you meant to have different BIOS or something for each game you have? I don't have them. If that is the problem then I don't know how it didn't work because I got the other things; ie. Rom1 Rom 2 and Erom. :???: I dunno whether it's against the rules to ask for individual bios if you can prove you own each game. I can send photos of me standing by each game with my playstation. If that's neccessary but please don't tell me that all my work is in vain because I can't get them.

If that isn't the case then I'm really confuzzled... :???:

P.S- Thanks for all ur time everybody! MUCH appreciated!

I don't think it comes from the bios. I have the same as you, and both NTSC & Pal games work.

Could U post a screen of your DVD plugin settings ?

you only need the one bios from your ps2, no others are required.

This Amos36 dude is cute. LAWL XD
You only need your PS's bios. Hm, you have a very simple problem I believe, but you're not aware of it.
Pls tell me, what is the drive letter of the drive you're putting your disc in?
What CDVD plugin do you use?
How is the plugin configured?
Even though you say you configured all right, let us just check it out for you. :)

Like it was said before. Don't use the CD's
Make a ISO and run from it. Far easier

i think it's easier to run from a cd. The problem is cd plugin config i think, you need to set it properly. And what is your console screen says? Did it say dvd read error? Gs plugin error? ,so If you can tell us maybe we can help to solve your problem. I use peops cdvd plugin. Just set your dvd drive letter, insert dvd, voila.

Hi again peeps!

@Grimlord; Cute? That's the third time this week that sumbudy's said dat! OMG! :D

Anyhoo...

Attached are a few images;

My Playstation, my FFX disc in da CD/DVD drive, my configuration setup screen, and the 'browser' screen saying that the disc ain't loading... (I've tried several games)

So I take it ur 100% sure wiv' da BIOS thing. I don't need to redo the dumping. I've got da European BIOS v.2.00 so I take it that's all I need, no individual game BIOS, like one for FFX and another for Lord Of The Rings; TTA?

Anyhow, that's all Cool.

I'd really love this to work because then I could play PS2 games on my laptop on the move from place 2 place and when my bruver's using da actual thing.

Anyhoo, I'm rambling.

Thanks!

Amos36

P.S- I have more games than those in the picture wiv' my PS2, I just have them in a seperate storage thingy. My mum says PS2's r a nightmare when it comes 2 cleaning. :)

First change your CDVD plugin to P.E.Op.S (if you want to run the game via DVD), and configure it well.

Or, if you want to save the DVD to your hard disk, and then run it (will give you more stability in game speed),
then read this (http://forums.ngemu.com/misc-psx-discussion/34515-how-make-perfect-backup-psx-games.html) to make an ISO of your DVD, and change the CDVD plugin to Linnuzappz ISO, and configure it.

File > Run CD/DVD, your game should run.

Now:

If you get an 'Error opening CDVD plugin' error, go here (http://forums.ngemu.com/pcsx2-official-forum/107798-problem-running-isos.html)
If you get low speed, get the newest GSDX (http://forums.ngemu.com/1244950-post1.html)

I hope it works.

Ok people still dont state the obvious. You got CDVDnull Driver selected. The null indicates that it is not a real plugin. Its a placeholder to fool pcsx2 into thinking there is a (empty) drive attached.

So select the peops plugin instead and configure as follows:
Interface: W2K/XP - IOCTL scsi commands
Drive: Here you got to select your DVD drive by the letter.
Caching Mode: Unimportant. But try "Thread read" for starters.

Leave all other options at default.

Finally choose File>Run DVD. Do not use Run>Execute. Execute is only used to boot the bios if you wanna manage memcards or change system settings.

@Grimlord; Umm... Thanks! :)

Can I just say a BIG thanks to everybudy hu helped!

One last thing, which is REALLY noobish. I've looked at the guide and everything but is there ANY extra thing to make it go faster? My FPS averages at 15%. Or would I have to improve specs of my Laptop or summing?

Anyhoo, thanks people!

No not really, you do need a fast dual core setup for most games to run at full speed. Some games wont run at full speed even with a really fast puter.

I get FFX to run pretty good with a Core duo setup (3.2ghz) with a Geforce8 GT.

You should go get Disgea2, it's easy on the cpu and runs quite well.

Laptops are in general weaker then gaming rigs in terms of both cpu and gpu.

Aah yes.. The 2nd most common noob question. That brings back the memories.. Most laptop have weaker cpu, onboard gfx chip, which is performing poorly in pcsx/ 3d pc games. Except gaming notebook. which is more expensive.. And it sucks.

I've hunted around and raised the FPS quite a bit with new plugins and checking other options and getting rid of my 'Power Saving' power plan on Vista. It's now working at roughly 30FPS which is bearable. Any other ideas? I'm running FFX btw...

Thanks!

P.S- I do have dual core and I've checked both options relevant to the dual core setup.

V1ncent
July 28th, 2008, 12:38
You say you got dual core, or is it core 2 duo ? how much speed does it have ?
Choosing direct x 10 as the renderer in GSDX can result some further increase in FPS, I think.

Amos36
July 28th, 2008, 12:45
I have got Core 2 Duo. What u mean by speed? Sorry, I'm a bit of a newb... *holds up hands* It should work with DX10 SSE3. But I'm asking somebudy else bout dat atm... Is there anything else? I can manage without the speed boost now but it can be annoying... :)

V1ncent
July 28th, 2008, 12:54
With speed I meant 'Ghz', i.e. processor speed (Should be in the properties of 'My Computer').
Are you using GSDX SSSE3 1.8 or GSDX SSE2 1.8 ?
If you are using the SSE2 version, then: click the native checkbox, and disable texture filtering (if enabled)
