View Full Version : Fullscreen on TV?

For some reason I can't get epsxe to run in fullscreen on my tv. If I tell it to run fullscreen it automatically goes back over to my monitor. I have my tv hooked up via component cables, it's just a regular tv, 640x480. Does epsxe have the ability to detect that I've got a tv connected or anything? Or would I maybe tell my computer to use the tv as the primary display or something?

Uhhhhh...?

its a spam bot, ignore it because ive already reported it to the mods. fascinating story though :dead:

as for your issue, i honestly dont know if thats doable or not, but ill look around and see if i can find anything about it.

set the tv as the primary display in the video cards control panel.

Yeah that's what I did, worked like a charm :) It was also running super fast so I set it to only use cpu core0 and then it slowed down to a playable rate.

if you use epsxe 1.7.0 you will not have to do that, it was a bug of some sorts in versions 1.5.2/1.6.0 but it has since then been fixed.

I am using 1.7.0 actually... How do I get it to run slower without changing the cpu affinity to only 1 core? I tried all of the fps limiting options but none of them seemed to work.

the F4 key toggles the internal limiter on/off. i believe if you have it enabled along with one of the plugin limiters they will conflict with one another, so disable the plugins limiter and use the internal one instead. i have a feeling this is the problem for you because i saw more people getting lag with the dual core bug opposed to people having the games running to fast because of it, and since its been corrected in 1.7.0 it can be ruled out automatically anyway.

That doesn't seem to work. I turned off the fps limiter for Pete's plugin and then set the internal one to 60fps but it was still running too fast. The F4 key made a tiny difference but not enough of one to actually make it playable, it was like it was switching between 2.5x normal speed and 2.4x hahaha. Oh well, it works fine just doing the cpu affinity thing so why bother trying to fix something that isn't broken right?

That would mean, the multiple core "issue" ain't "resolved" in v1.7.0 ?

bidget
July 19th, 2008, 21:15
That would be correct, unless I'm doing something wrong. If it was thought to be fixed though maybe it is a hardware specific problem that should be looked into? I will post all of my graphics settings and hardware later when I get home from work, I could just have some settings that are a little screwy who knows.

no, it is. on one of my desktops i use a dual core and it works fine in 1.7.0. if i have both the internal and the plugin limiters on my speeds fluctuat.

what kind of cpu do you have, is it an AMD by any chance?

Alright here are the pictures of my settings. If I hit f4 in game it displays the frame limit on/off in the top right but it doesn't actually limit the framerate, I've only been able to get it to work by using the affinity to only use one cpu core.
I have an AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ Black Edition on a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 Rev. 2. Video card is an evga 8800GT, and I'm running the emulator in full screen if that matters.

**EDIT**

I'm also using XP Pro SP2, not sure if you would need to know that or not.

the AMD might be the problem. download the dual core optimizer from here (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html) (3rd item on the page) and run it, then post if it has improved anything.

just be aware that the patch breaks WoW

After downloading and installing the patch epsxe is now complaining about not being able to find zlib1.dll...

DLL-files.com - zlib1.dll, free download (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?zlib1)

This optimizer patch seems to have fixed the framerate issue, thanks guys!

Then the multiple core "issue" for ePSXe v1.7.0, is "fixed" ?

I wonder... there was something to do into an executable file to use one core permanently. I think it was with imgcfg or something named alike, to set permanently the executable's affinity.

Might be useful for ePSXe<1.7.0 users with multiple cores issues.

Squall-Leonhart

not with amd processors.

KrossX
July 21st, 2008, 02:43
Hmm.. so with AMD multiple cores processors, the "issue" would happen regardless of affinity setting with ePSXe <1.7.0 ?

So the only option would be to use ePSXe v1.7.0 and one of the two choices, using affinity setting or, update the AMD Driver as the current subject has done?

it wasnt limited to epsxe either-

"The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized."

After using that AMD optimizer patch the framerate runs perfectly without having to change the affinity, but now epsxe will freeze or crash randomly, is this just a coincidence or could the optimizer have caused this?

Squall-Leonhart

what kind of crashes?
opcodes, or windows

jonc2006
July 21st, 2008, 09:44
test out other applications or psx emulators and see if they have random crashes.

Where can I find one of these magical cords, and what is it (the cord) called?

bidget
July 22nd, 2008, 03:33
I'm not sure what you mean by opcode but the emulator will freeze and need to be restarted. This has only happened with epsxe so far, but it happens pretty regularly and it's getting progressively more and more annoying =\

**EDIT**

Hey just curious, am I able to make the rumble feature work? I am using a wired xbox 360 controller and I'm not quite sure how to get it working, if it's even possible.

jonc2006

do you have any overclocking done to your cpu?

bidget
July 22nd, 2008, 03:39
No I do not

jonc2006
July 22nd, 2008, 03:49
does it crash at a different location every time?

Yup, you can. You'll need to use XBCD (http://redcl0ud.1.forumer.com/index.php?act=idx) though, since Microsoft's drivers have poor DInput support (and lack of rumble for it).

#Edit: If you often use the controller to play XInput games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_XInput_games), you might want to keep the Micro$oft's drivers for Xinput support.

Yes, it just seems to happen at random
