View Full Version : Black Screen.

Hi. I'm currently playing Star Ocean 2 (ISO) and am using a saved file I downloaded. It was working fine for the first little bit, all the way up until I have to go to Cross for the first time. I'm getting a black screen when I use over 60 FPS. I can play it like this, but I'd rather be able to speed it up/slow it down at my own discretion. I haven't tested if this black screen happens at 60 FPS or less, but I want to play it at a faster speed, anyway. When I get the black screen, the sound continues to play, but sometimes freezes and plays the same short fragment of sound over and over. I can change the FPS when it's a black screen, and the sound changes accordingly, but I can't play a video game without video. :P I'm using ePSXe 1.5.2 and don't want to have to use a newer version, if possible. The video plugins I've tried are P. E. Op S. Soft Driver 1.17, Pete's D3D Driver 1.76, Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.76, and Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76. Please help me if you can.

Quick update. It seems to be happening almost every single time I exit the menu screen. I've tried a few different settings, but it's still happening, so far, regardless of what I do.

Are you using frameskip? If so disable it to see if it makes a difference, if so and you still need frameskip then enable old frameskip option in special game fixes and see if that helps

what kind of cpu do you have, single or multi-core?

There doesn't seem to be any black screens when I enable old frame skipping, but when I change the FPS back down to 60 using the good old 'END' key, it happens again.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66
3GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128MB

im not sure if this would actually cause a black screen issue but make sure epsxe is only being run under one of your cpu cores if you are using any version other than 1.7.0.

Simple question, since I was "long time no see" in this forum : how do I set the ePSXe to use only 1 of the CPU core? I'm using Core 2 Duo with 1.6.0 and still have no problem at all ...

in the task manager right click the epsxe.exe under the "processes" tab, then go to "set affinity", in there you would want to make it so only one core is in use with the emulator. this bug was fixed in 1.7.0 but in 1.5.2/1.6.0 most people using multi-core processors had to do this.

But if I don't have any problem I don't need to do that, right? I mean, I'm very satisfied with what I have right now : ePSXe 1.6.0 run smooth with Core 2 Duo. By the way, what problems do they usually had if 2 or more cores running with ePSXe?

if you are not getting any performance issues then no you dont need to do it but keep this all in mind if you do run into issues with performance somewhere down the line. ive seen people claim to get problems with both lag and super-fast speed so it varies from case to case.
