OK I am running metal gear solid from a disk and sometimes the games gets very laggy and other times it totally crashes.

My PCs specs are:

-Intel Core 2 Duo E4400
-2 GB RAM
-Intel GMA 950 video card

So could someone please recommend a plug-in and a configuration that would run well on my PC.

I also have one more question. I am facing a boss (Psyco Mantis) and it requires you to switch controller ports. How am I supposed to do this if I'm playing on a keyboard?

Thanks in advance for all the help :)

is metal gear the only game you get slowdown with? if all your games are getting slowdown or performance issues then it is either because epsxe is being used by both of your cpu cores, so make it so that only one of them is using it. this was a bug in epsxe 1.5.2 and 1.6.0 but has since been corrected in 1 7.0 so if you are using one of those earlier versions you need to make sure only one of your cpu cores working with epsxe. the other possible reason for the the slowdown is a bad plugin setup/config, and before i suggest anything about that sort of thing i need to know what video plugin you are using now and how you have it configured. btw if you play from image files instead of the disc you might get better performance.

Ok I am using Pete's OpenGL 1.77

My config is:

Res: 1280x 1024
Color Depth: 32 Bit

Texture Quality: R8 G8 B8 A8- best colors more ram needed
Filtering: None
Hi-res Texture: None
gfx card vram: Autodetect

Off-screen drawing: Enhanced
Framebuffers textures: gfx card buffer
framebuffer access: Emulated vram
Alpha Multi-pass, Mask bit, Advanced Blending: All Enabled

Also is it possible for my PC to use Pete's OpenGL 2.9

read over this (http://forums.ngemu.com/psx-plugin-questions-troubleshooting/76200-metal-gear-solid-ogl-config.html) thead and see if anything in there works for you. i would stick with the OGL1 because the OGL2 is intended for higher end or more recent video cards, i dont think it likes onboard chipsets very much.

Thanks but I was wondering does the screen resolution make any difference with how smoothly the game runs or can I stay at my regular resolution.

OK, some info here : try to understand and change'em :
-----------------------------------------------------
using Pete's OpenGL 1.77

Res: 1280x 1024---->(As much you set as much it demands Sys_Memo + GFX_Mem)

Color Depth: 32 Bit

Texture Quality: R8 G8 B8 A8- best colors more ram needed
Filtering: None ------------->(Why the hell you're not using this option oO)
Hi-res Texture: None---->(Very demandig, but gives a great texture looking if you have a huge GFX_mem).

gfx card vram: Autodetect

Off-screen drawing: Enhanced ------->(Reduce this **** with MGS, 3d option is fine)

Framebuffers textures: SET to option 1
framebuffer access: SET to option 1

Alpha Multi-pass, Mask bit, Advanced Blending: All Enabled

Wait so should I use texture filtering or not?

Depends on your GFX card memory (128 MB should be enough), it gives you a great good looking.

And I see that you're not using the first filtering option ?

So then what do you recommend?

Umm I'm not sure how would I check this on Vista?

Hi-Res Textures Modes are very demanding and most probably will slow down some effects ingame. But, if you can afford it, and you like how it looks... go for it.

As for Filtering, try them. It's basicly about taste, I actually don't use them much if at all.

START/RUN, then type "dxdiag", wat for it, you'll get some useful info!.

Just try them all, you can switch Filterings while ingame using Pete's menu.

Test and mess with stuff. Find the one you like the most.

1- Get MY EXTRA-PLUGIN FOLDER (http://forums.ngemu.com/attachments/psxeven-discussion/163706d1214561811-psxeven-legend-dragoon-black-screen-plugin.7z), extract and copy all the .dll files to your plugins folder.

2- I'm using always the D3D versions (pete's D3D v1.76) with this setting (its always a good start for beginners) then when gained some experience with it try others (ogl...etc).

My setting for it as fellow :
